Well obviously I can't name specific examples because I don't know piracy stats (people tend not to like to admit that they've done it). But something you need to realize is that there are two companies involved in getting a game made. There is the developer, who actually makes the game. Then there is the publisher who funds the developers in exchange for a hefty cut of the profits. Here is a recent example: Majesco published two very good recent Xbox games: Pyschonauts and Advent Rising. Neither sold well (as I said earlier, I don't know if piracy was the reason or not). Because of this they lost a lot of money (they paid for the development but made little profit). And since they lost a lot of money, they had to drop the publishing of an Xbox 360 game in development, Demonik. Now that game may or may not get picked up by another publisher; if it doesn't it will have to be cancelled. This is why I said "The industry is headed in a direction in which there is no room for the smaller, groundbreaking, original game to get on the market (hopefully XBLA can fix that, but that's another topic). Do you really want to keep playing different versions of the same thing forever?".

Exactly, then people complain that a game is subpar and blah blah blah. the only people who have the right to complain are those who acquired the game in a legit way not by pirating.

If people steal a company's games they lose money. And for a smaller company that is money they can put into make their next game better. Piracy ruins everything and pirates need to be stopped at all costs. Company's like Sony and MS and Nintendo need to be aware and help out the software companys by any means necessary. Does MS even read forums like this? It is obvious the pirates are starting to operate with this firmware hack. they should have been on that in 2 seconds to ban their ip addresses from Xbox Live. I am sure they will eventually do it, but when???

All my consoles are modded, but truth be told, I could have all the pirated games in the world, my attention span for them is pretty bad, and when i like something i've gotten I go buy it eventually, but there are some games i've gotten that a) i've never played, b) i just looked at for 5 mins c) i only ensured they booted up. I do believe that if I like a game I should buy it so they'll make more, that has yet to happen but its nice to think it could. Although I only know about this forum because it was a good source for me to learn about the PSO exploit for GC and we all know the only reason you would do that...

I did miss out on xbox live though for having it modded, but 360 I will probably be slow to mod if I even do it because the fact is, there are games that I would want to play more if I had bought them then copied, I just like to say "I have 150+ games" cuz it sounds cool. Of them I doubt I've played more than 5. It is kind of wasteful I guess...oh well i enjoyed modding them and seeing the system worked still, and I like my xbox media center, which is all I use my xbox for now, I don't really play that many games anymore except on my DS and i buy all those anyway.

I cover my bases...
1)Xbox w/xecuter 2.6 solderless
2)Ps2 (slim) w/DMS4 Lite
3)Ps2 V7 w/DMS4 Lite and 200 Gig Maxtor HDD
4)GC w/qoob pro

I think the major problem with piracy is that none of the gaming companies recognize your right given by the FCC.....to have a back-up copy of any media product you own! If the companies included software on the originals to allow you to back-up on your pc, and have a sector on the game that the pc could write to once, to avoid other back-ups, as well as coding the back-up, there would be less piracy! Putting certain components in place would help, but yes they would also be a little expensive. And yes there would be a method of hacking this, but it would deter a lot of people who only know about exploits and hacks through proffesionals. Maybe a feature on the console for a one-time back-up on it's HDD would work. Look how well M$ used the HDD! Still no HDD hack! Yes eventually, but it's a lot easier to update and destroy it through XBL. Even dash updates on new games. ex. Halo 2!

I SUPPORT THE GAMING INDUSTRY 110%!

Also, with the original 360s scratching some games, a back-up sure would have helped, that way u could wreck your back up and not ur precious original. I know I've had a lot of rare games over the years that it would be next to impossible to find a replacement original for, so the back-ups save you the scratches that can come with putting a cd/dvd in and out of a jewel case or console all the time. You anti-pirates/non-believers of back-ups will all say "be more careful" but u know what s*** happens so just understand that. And truth be told, it really is a minscule amount of people out there that mod their consoles. I have shown all my friends my modded consoles and except for 1 none of them have actually gone through the necessary steps to do it. I'd say about 40-60 people have seen what I have had over the years to give you an idea. could be more though. The great games that don't sell well may just not be what most gamers want to buy, a lot of people I know only buy EA sports games or whatever they are told to buy in Maxim magazine and that is about it, maybe a popular shooter like halo, but seriously they just don't have the interest in a fabulous game like Psychonauts, and they are the ones that would be buying it if they did. I haven't really played it longer than 10 minutes but x-play said it was good so that is enough for me! (don't bash the only G4 watcher left here ;) )

It has no effect on the quality of games that actually get published, but it prevents some high quality games from being published.

As for backing up games to the consoles hard drive, there's just not enough space. Again, I see no problem with backing up your games that you bought. Accidents happen and they shouldn't cost you the $60 you just paid. But piracy is completely and absolutely wrong, and there is no decent explanation for why it should be allowed.

if a game doesn't get published, how can piracy affect its budget... come on really, think before you say something :P

Game companies are making plenty of money to afford more advanced hardware to make more advanced games, piracy is not a bottleneck.

Piracy of a game means that it doesn't sell well. When a developer's game doesn't sell well, they are less likely to get another game published. You seem to have very little understanding of basic economics and the games industry. This is not a hard concept to understand.

The reason piracy was not promoted on afterdawn in the past, was because of a legal thing("backups" not "copies" LOL) But in this last year or so, people have been joining afterdawn with some sort of strange moral problem, that I find extremely amusing indeed.

You are reading a mindless signature, please stop reading it now it is mindless, one can only presume you are mindless since you are still reading this mindless signature, Oh my god get a life you mindless person, whats the matter with you, dont you have a girlfreind? mindless mindless mindless

Despite the TOS we all know the reason MOST people are on this site when they are in a gaming or DVD forum whether they want to admit it or not. You can't talk about it, because the site could get shut down. It's the ol' don't ask, don't tell policy. Regardless, that's a great line!

That's not what I meant. I meant as far as the morals of piracy go, I don't have any(neither do most on afterdawn), but the newer members of afterdawn seem to.I don't know how long you have been posting here, but 3 years ago(when there was a single xbox section with no sub-sections) when I first started posting on afterdawn, there was no one like you, now it seems 1 in 10 have morals (which is dull)

I don't play or sell games but kids are kids, and I have 2 that are destructive. I have to say, this forum has been like an open discussion for people who like to press different views, fight and argue. It reminds me of a couple girls I dated, nobody cares about your standards for sharing 0's and 1's.

I am also curious how many people posting are in the software industry? The fact of the matter is, Corporate America SUCKS, sorry about the caps, but it really does. If your not happy with your job and your earnings figure out how to work for yourself. Better yet start a forum disscussing anti piracy, I thought this forum was about X Box 360. Modderator Please erase all this nonsence I'm trying to read about a specific gaming console, not to hear people bitch.

Talk about corporate loss, I'm not going to buy a 360 because I couldn't learn find out what was looking for.

If you want to Buy a computer and cook oatmeal in it its your decision, you bought it. If you don't like your line of work, get out of it. What do you think; this is a game or somthing? Check out this thread, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/351688

For someone who doesn't want bitching, you sure do alot of it. Why don't you find a thread that's souly for Xbox 360 or create one instead of going to a modding thread. It doesn't make sense why you would come in here and accuse us of not talking about the 360 when it's about modding anyways.

Hey I'm sorry I was a little drunk and having fun, and if you want to know whats with all the modding, well its a hobbie for most of us, its very rewarding when you get it together. No offense, but I thought I would hear a little on the progress of modding 360. I did read "Again" that someone was working on a chip the last 4 months. Basically I'm bored with my X Box and the 200 GB is full. I still like my old X Box the most. I'm sorry you thought I was bitching, but have you read the entire thread? Its not very helpful, just fun enough to read.

Happy Gaming
