Ok, from the people I've talked to, the xbox360 is supposed to be REAL good, and is real good from what I've played, so why mod it? What kind of differences does it make?

The purpose of this mod is plain and simple, for playing stolen games. People will tell you it is for making backups....yeah right. No homebrew here, just plain grand...... theft..... videogames

Fanboys and modders are quick to fault a company for mistakes, below caliber games, generally for anything they can think up. People who don't go out and actually buy the games have no right to diss dev's or publishers, because if a game is below standard, it could perhaps be down to low sales caused by copies flooding the market?
I used to have a modded PS1, but quickly seen the error of my ways and i'm happy to support a developer when they bring me a next-gen title worthy of £50. Rockstar gave us TT for £29.99, and its superb. I'm happy to contribute.

thank god for you. you have found the devine powers to turn away from modding and as a result, better games are being produced because of it. save us all from eternal darkness o dear oedekerk. Good to see that all ea's CEOs are ridin on chrome rims and you're telling me they're sacrafising their game quality? They're rich, sure we copy their games, so what???? they can't fill their huge swimming pools with champaigne now? Get real buddy the games quality has nothing to do with modders, you think there is that many of us???? They just try to stop us, so they can make more money... i frankly dont give two shits.

Not 360 modders, but everyone I knew had a chipped PSX which must've took its toll. And I couldnt give a sh*t about the developers wages either, but you get fed up reading about people whining and winging about faults in games when they don't even buy it. There is a lot of people around like that. It just gets boring. If you choose to mod fair-do's, i'm just sayin' ill support decent dev's. It 's the publishers I despise. Pointless b*startds...

What it comes down too is that playing copied games is stealing. No, it doesn't hurt "ea's CEOs are ridin on chrome rims", but it does hurt the devs who worked hard on the game. When a game doesn't sell well, it means that future games like it aren't going to get published which only hurts the industry. I gladly pay for every game I play; if you don't understand and see what's wrong with playing copied (aka stolen) games, then you're just being ignorant.

WTF!! M$ doesn't need money at all, and heck it this way, if people crack their security, they'll just make one better next time, after some generations they will have a better security. Anyway the video games market is gaining so much strengh... analysts says the video game market will win over the music market in 2009, you think they need more money? Anyway it's not the majority who play back-up games. Also, I payed almost 1k$ of games before modding my ps1 and 2k$ before modding my ps2, I suppose I'm a better supporter than A LOT of people who say we should not play back up games to help developpers... lame! Anyway who would buy tomb raider legend for 69$CAD(with txs) and finish the game in 5hours... lame, or paying the same price for zone of the enders 2 - second runner, I finished the game in 3hours. I can pay that money for final fantasy or dragon quest or suikoden or any good RPG that can live up more than 30h (dragon quest 8 took 70h and I finished only lvl 34).
And for this topic question, the modding is NOT to boost your xbox 360, all the consoles games are MADE to play on the console. You have to mod your console to play back-ups. And don't say M$ need money.... M$ rushed the xbox360 (media center extender, WTF why they didn't at least make a full media center?) , the xbox 360 is like a new video card for your PC, it's cool, but nothing you never saw. You should not pay 500$ only to have an xbox 1.5, M$ make this everytime, they flush money to gain a good market share, and they always have new gizmos for your money... LAME, ex: xbox lasted what, 4years? ps1 lasted 6years, and ps2 6years, nintendo 64 lasted 6years, and the gamecube 5years before the wii. M$ destroyed a lot of small companies who made games for the xbox by selling their x360 too soon for the market. Some companies couldn't "re-do" their games to port on xbox360 and had to close. After buying an xbox for 400$ you will buy an xbox 360 for 500$ 4 years after, and in 4 other years you will buy an xbox 720 for 600$? 1500$US before txs in 12 years? only to get generations+nearly-next-gen+next gen system? why don't you buy a fully next gen system instead? I mean, if you buy a ps3 500$ core bundle, it's the same price than the xbox 360 premium bundle, and they have the same thing in the box, instead the ps3 will have a better CPU and a blue-ray player. ( also the ps3 doesn't make INFERNAL SOUND when it play, (coolant) it has the same sound as the psTwo Slim edition ( almost no sound at all ) and nearly all 1st generation games are multi-platform. :S Or if you like versatility or new gizmos and special stuff, buy a nintendo wii, it's priced in japan for only 18 000 Yen and in japan it include txs, so it's like 150$US.
Please, don't buy an xbox 360, you will regret it...
If you like RPGs : final fantasy 13, versus 13 & more only on ps3
if you like shooter : xbox360 is good with gears of war, but ps3 have unreal 2k7 exclusive... hard to tell witch is better
if you like sports game, it's the same, take ps3 witch play blue-ray movie.
if you like music games, take nintendo wii
if you like special games like cooking games, or nds style games, but a nintendo wii
if you need really new stuff, buy a nintendo wii
if you liked zelda and mario and pikmin and etc.. buy a wii
if you like online play.. hard to tell, ps3 have a xbox live killer, but will they get this right? not sure, we'll see, for now I can't say.
Why buying an xbox360? simple: because you have a lot of money, so why wait for a console, just buy the 3 of them!
Anyway, the truth is: you have to buy a console for it's games, now that xbox360 will also get (like ps3) GTA4 is good for M$ and for those who have an xbox 360, but is you like RPGs... only one companies will have REALLY GREAT titles, Mistwalker, surely the best RPGs on the market when it goes out, after final fantasy versus 13 and 13 (for me). So I'll buy an xbox 360, but only when it'll be LOT cheaper, and that mistwalker games'll be there.
Don't bash this post, please, even you fanboys, try to understand what I said, mostly about the same price the the xbox360 and the ps3.
ps: ps3 premium edition have the 60 gig hard disc
wireless networtk
HDMI
media card reader
wireless controllers
more that core
ps3 core edition have blue ray player
better CPU(2terraflops)
controller with motion sensibility
HD componnents
etc etc
So I suppose to steal M$ is like robin hood stealing the bads.

You have some valid points, but it would be hard not to get flamed if you're outright telling people which console to buy.

rpg: sony certainly does have a lot of rpg's. Oblivion has gotten great reviews though.
shooter: you forgot about halo 3, and i'm sure rabbity or someone else can list a number of other shooters for the 360.
sports: blu-ray movie has nothing to do with the game, so I don't know why you even bothered to mention it. (as it were, the e3 sports award went to the Wii)
online: you're absolutely right. We don't know how good the ps3's online service will be, but we do know how good xbox live is.
Finally, they do not cost the same. The ps3 comes with a $500 or $600 price tag, while the 360 is $300 or $400.

the 360 can be wireless, not to mention a network called Live Anywhere is coming to the 360 and anyone who will have Windows Vista.
360 has wireless controllers as well.
while I've always agreed that the Cell may be better suited for games than the 360's core cpu, the reality is that both of the cpu's are heavily overrated. Read this:

First off, to address earlier statements.....
Modding has not diminished the quality of games or hurt the market in any way! Do some analytical research and you will find that the declining economy and increase of such hardwares are why the game industry is hurting. ABout 70% of pirated games are purchased by the piraters and that is a fact released by an independent company. DO you really think more games are sold now than 10 years ago? The answer is no! The economy has caused Cost Of Living to rise severly and as a result, the payed labor of most americans has gone down. Unless you have a $100,000 a year job you can't support the game company in a way that is equal to what we were supporting years ago. Don't blame people who mod, blame your poloticians. Yes I have a modded Xbox and I enjoy the games I have on them. But, I only back-up the games I own. That is why my game library consists of only about 12 games!

And that is a proper use of back ups. I don't really have a problem with you backing up games you own for archival purposes. And I have no problem with modding. You bought the system, you can do anything you want to it. But I do have a problem with stealing.
If there is a game you want to play, buy it! Vote with your wallet and publishers will listen. People complain about the lack of creativity in the games industry, but the reason for it is that a lot of the creative games don't sell. The industry is headed in a direction in which there is no room for the smaller, groundbreaking, original game to get on the market (hopefully XBLA can fix that, but that's another topic). Do you really want to keep playing different versions of the same thing forever?

I come to this forum for the games discussion. But in reality, most of the users of this site are ignorant (not all, but a lot). You admit you're still in school; hopefully when you get a little older you'll understand what's wrong with copying games.

im sorry that supporting a 4 year chemical engineering degree from university makes me sound ignorant. face it, forums are for pirates... probably 10% of threads are accutally discussing games. Just quit preaching, especially on a forum.
