i dont think hard drives will work, cos the virtual console games could then be easily distributed over the internet
what would stop you from using the SD card the same way?

I think I read somewhere that the games downlaoded from VC will have Digital Rights Management (DRM) embedded in them, so you will only be able to play the game on your console.

Honestly, I don't see why an extrnal hard drive wouldn't be supported.

Are the usb ports regular usb ports or those smaller ones you seem to find on portable devices like digital cameras, mp3, psp....etc

Yes you will be able to connect USB mass storage devices(external hardrives, memory sticks etc.) and secure digital cards( sd card)

One other thinbg to the peple who said maybe but it might have to be an official one then why allow the sd card without protection not the hd when its the same thing

not really, there is probably a maximum for it. like Ps2 can only have up to 120GB and windows xp could only have 120 until after the service pack

There are various sites that will instruct you to MAKE an adapter.

Also, it doesn't use CF cards (And neither do most current expensive cameras) it uses SD which is a much more recent and expandable format, gamestop is already selling SD cards for it on their website.

As for protection, if they want to protect the system, they'll make it so that you can only use the sd card for music and possibly videos, as well as game saves, whereas the internal memory will store roms and/or games, etc.

well, i plugged up my external drive and there is no way I have found to view it. Maybe they will make a "USB port" channel or something later, but now it is not there on the Wii menu where storage is.

I cover my bases...
1)Xbox w/xecuter 2.6 solderless
2)Ps2 (slim) w/DMS4 Lite
3)Ps2 V7 w/DMS4 Lite and 200 Gig Maxtor HDD
4)GC w/qoob pro

I have a feeling it probably won't. If the SD cards, and the lack of usb functionality are any indicators, it would seem Nintendo is working very hard to keep the system locked down. So I doubt that they'll ever allow it, they really haven't got any good reason to enable it anyways.

Yea, SD cards are fine for simple external storage, and they'll keep people from using the hard drive to boot/store games or other apps.

2)Ps2 (slim) w/DMS4 Lite

....Provided this whole bit of seemingly random compatibility comes to an end. There is still a degree of oddity about which cards will and won't work with the system. I know there are certain features related, but a lot of retailers won't even tell you that in their ads. It's really frustrating.

Would a regular sandisk SD card would or do you have to have the special "Wii" sandisk SD card?
