Bumped because handsom is back.

Also semi on-topic: Suda 51 was quoted as saying he will try to make "no more heroes" more violent than manhunt 2.

lol; thanks for the bump. I would've probably overlooked this thread
otherwise.

My 98.9% is now down to about an 85%. Still not very good... I'll explain:

First off, Manhunt one was a travesty of a game. I worked in a rental store at the time, and watched customer after customer after customer ttry to exchange it an hour after renting it. I even had a customer hurl it at me, because another employee told him it was good. Nearly the entire game consists solely of control with ONE BUTTON that does almost every major function regarding kills.

You might as well watch a horror movie with a little red buzzer that you hit every time the chainsaw killer gets close enough.

As for a Wii version, I'm confident of a few things:

-If they are developing a Wii version, they obviously have *some* respect for the system.
-They will likely make some use of the Wiimote, which may, or may not be innovative. Rockstar has proven with games like Grand Theft Auto that they can reinvent and raise the bar on game categories. But keep in mind that with games like Manhunt and State of Emergency, they've also proven they are good at completely ignoring the current quality demand and going way below it. So, it's genuinely a toss up.
-Finally, most self respecting gamers who had the misfortune of trying the first Manhunt title will have this stinging feeling in the back of their head, that prevents them from even picking up the box of this sequel; it's a leftover effect from how redundantly bad the first title was. Unfortunately, reviews kept a lot of people from trying manhunt 1, so many gamers don't yet have that reflex. In absence of a wide selection of violent games for the Wii, it may see some sales there, there's no telling.

Unfortunately though, it would seem Rockstar is going to use this title to test the waters of the Wii; which is sad. It may very likely be like Acclaim testing sales of the Wii solely on the sales of a direct sequel to Superman 64 *Shudder*.

But again, the lack of this type of game may cause it to sell better anyways; and the wiimote may cause Rockstar to implement a REAL control scheme this time... Stranger things have happened.

Well at least there's a dent. Judging by the a few key points of the rest of your post, I'd say that percentage reflects your confidence (or lack thereof) in the manhunt franchise.

Agreed.
But: A successful (or even semi-successful) manhunt 2 on wii makes it that much more impossible for rockstar to pass up GTA on Wii.

Yeah, I'm still much more excited for no more heroes.
I'd really like to play manhunt just to see what it's like. After your post, it's hard to expect anything better than nails on a chalkboard.

Well; I think you really drew the points effectively from my post, in all honesty.

Manhunt stank. And I mean it stank something awful. I would dare say it was Rockstar's worst title ever, the runner up being State of Emergency, but at least State of Emergency had decent gameplay, a small sense of humor, and real controls; it just got repetitive after a day or two... Manhunt got repetitive pretty much after the first kill.

And like I said, Rockstar might feel obligated to really reinvent the wheel on this one. When a game company does a sequel to a terrible game it means one of two things:

-They don't understand why it failed, and have written it off as either a fluke or piracy.

OR

-They've examined the formula, taken a lot of feedback, and feel they can really improve the formula.

I'd like to believe the latter; but GTA3 aside, when has Rockstar really 'reinvented' anything. And while I give them credit for getting GTA3 right; I believe that it was incidental. They had two entries into their franchise, the company wasn't doing so hot; so they invested a few bucks in Midnight Club, and a follow up to their old 2 dimensional michief series. Being one of their first entries to the ps2; I think that anyone could tell a 3rd top-down gta wouldn't have passed. So, I think it's great that the genre was so reborn from GTA3; but I don't credit it to Rockstar perse; but rather inevitability.

It's really going to be a toss up here, my friend. Rockstar is either planning to vastly improve the formula, finally creating what I can only envision as "Playing a Splinter Cell game as Jason", or they're going to fall flat on their faces again. Either way; Jack Thompson will be sure not to miss the second Manhunt, since he seems to have glazed over the first one altogether, in favor of GTA.

You know it's a bad sign, when Rockstar studios releases the most violent, grotesque, and sick looking game they have ever done... And Jack Thompson ignores it.

An interesting title; but I don't know that they really did anything amazing with it. It played a lot like a lot of tennis games already do. It was changed up a bit, to be according with the table, etc; and had improved graphics, which were somewhat necessary considering that it was on the 360.

I can't really see anything about it as revolutionary, though it was a good title in all honesty.

It was a good title to callback though; I have to say that GTA3(Again whether by Rockstar's skill or pure inevitability is debatable) was their most revolutionary title.

Also worth noting:
Red Dead Revolver was also something of a standout title. At the time, it was the only game of it's kind, a better of the game type came out later 'Gun'. But Rockstar did something unique by releasing Red Dead from their San Diego office. It was hardly revolutionary, but in the same way that Table Tennis did, it was a unique venture into relatively uncharted territory within the industry.
