Nothing really wrong there... What are your computer specs? Also, make sure you dont run anything else/multitask whilst burning.

Hi, Thank you for your prompt response. Im on a school computer right now but i dont really know how to check my specs even if i am on my computer. I know it has 1 gb of ram with 2 hard drives, each 120 gigabytes each. Its running Window XP Professional. Could you tell me how to give you the information you need? I also turn off almost all my programs running in the background besides my mcaffee antivirus and logitech setpoint which is for my mouse and keyboard. Maybe there is a hidden program running in the background that i am not seeing? I also do not open any programs or do anything while the burner is working. Thank you for any help you can provide me with.

Ok, well your comp specs are enough to run Nero 7, so make sure you have the latest version. You can get that from AfterDawn. :-)

Lucky for you there have been two more firmware updates since the time of posting so hopefull you'll have more luck with this version of the firmware SB04.

Load that into the flash utility and try again. Make sure you have nothing in the drive whilst flashing and nothing else running.

Awesome, that worked, thanks. That didnt help my problem though. Im still having some issue burning DVDs. Im using Nero 7, Ive followed the guides on here, step by step, since Im not that great with computers, but I keep popping out coasters. I burnt a data CD, just to make sure the burner does work. Then tried making a data DVD, but that doesnt want to work either, using Nero or drag & drop in windows.
Heres the log file of my latest DVD burn attempt, and my comp specs: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 1.70GHz 1.72GHz, 512 MB of RAM
Any help or insight is appreciated.

I have the same dvd drive and I can't read or write disks. When I open my computer it is labeled as a ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD-RAM drive which I think isn't right, but I don't know how to fix the problem

I am having an issue with the same drive (SAMSUNG SH-S182M) My computer is randomly recognizing it. Sometimes it recognizes the drive when I restart, sometimes it doesn't. I have tried to download the latest firmware (SH-S182M_SB05) but the installation program (sfdnwin) doesn't identify the right drive (I think it's supposed to be something like TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-W162CTS10) Instead the only option the pop up window shows is -HL-DT-STRW/DVD GCC-4240NE112- and this option will not allow me to load the new firmware.
Anyone have any ideas for loading a new driver? Or better yet, the drive came with a cd that is compatible with win98 only... any ideas how to make my system (XP) run it?

I have had this Samsung drive for almost 6 months, after reading the reviews for a month I thought it would be a good purchase. Ive had nothing but problems and the shipping back and forth made it not cost effective to return for a possible fix.... Those days are now behind me as thanks to your advise, Ive updated my drive and for the 1st time since Ive owned it, it works perfectly! Much thanks for helping those of us who are not as savvy in the world of computers.
