There are Blu Ray players/writers for computers right now if anyone is interested, they cost more than a baseline PC though.

@bunny_c - This is a discussion forum about the Wii. We discuss stuff here. You really shouldn't post something completely off-topic
I'm sorry i think i misjudged this thread.I assumed that it would become one of those stupid, childish, boring, argumentative threads.I'm happy to have been proven wrong.
but i don't agree that what i was saying was off-topic but anyway lets get back on track.

Ohh, but that's right, you want the nice bloody, gory, stuff. Well, if you would read up on some stuff; ever since the Wii came out, Nintendo now has new Game Developers signing with them! So, what's this mean? New Nintendo games from the old/good game producers. Give them some time, they're still exploring the possibilities of the Wii as well!

GREAT,does this mean that we will be able to have a huge variety of games on the Wii?
because i must admit that i enjoy bloody gory games as much as i enjoy calm, non violent games.

@jakewash - Yeah, I just seen one in one of the built in advertisements yesterday :)

@bunny_c - No hard feelings dude. I think Nintendo will try to remain more "family oriented" so I don't know that they ever create a game like Gears of War. However, you can expect all kinds of new games new before seen with whole new story lines and plots!

@RavenLife - Maybe not a "huge" variety, but a ton bigger than then the selection for the N64 and Gamecube.

God I can't wait for the new Mario Party and Super Smash Bros!!!!

@dvdigital: the fact it took over 10 mins for you to be perm suspended from these forums is quite scary :<

Anyway....who CARES if it's a kiddie system. The Wiimote rocks! I had a chance to use it, and there's nothing gimicky about it. Having a true freeform remote is a very cool concept. Like that {insert competitor here} came up w/a controller that's similar, but still NOT as good. I really, really want to see some of the better games that are suited for the Wiimote to take full advantage of its capabilities.

suggestions: Dance Dance Revolution, where you tie it to your belt & make your own screen characters dance, jump and slide
PGA Tour 2007, where you attach the Wiimote to a golf club & use it just like the real thing
Pro Bass Fishing 2007, just like real fishing using a Wiimote

None of these types of games are possible with {insert competitor here} & that's exactly why I'd buy a Wii ^_^

if you're a college student, do NOT settle with the RIAA http://tinyurl.com/37oz2z

I am guessing this is directed at me as I am the only one with initials similar to that, Yes I have a Wii and I love it. It was bought for my son but I have grown up on Video games since the Atari (HCS? long before it was labeled the 2600). This by far the best game experience I have had. My 6 year old is bobbing and weaving with the boxing on the sports game. I love the Excite truck I picked up and am now downloading all the old games onto it, this console is truly a must have.....

Just like to let all you "wii bashers" know that last time I checked my local stores; the ps3s were sitten there collecting dust, while the wii was NOWHERE to be found! The surprising thing is that they actually released much more wiis than ps3s. I really thought the "ps3 shortage" that Sony was reporting about was gonna last well into mid 2007 lol. Looks like Nintendo has reclaimed the Gaming throne with the Wii!! Lastly, I love the interaction with the wii motion sensing capabilites, it opens up all new possiblites for games and plus not to mention, causes you to burn much more calories than the 360 and ps3 LOL (I can see fitness "games" coming out for it, with jumping jacks etc....)

Muhahah, that's right! The Wii sold way more, and is still wanted. Could you only imagine if their system had the better graphics and such to the point that it was worth $600! Cause dang, Nintendo would be richer than Bill Gates by now! (Actually, they'd only have over $1,800,000,000 so maybe not quite as rich)

Also, I think the Wii Sports was designed to be a "light" exercise game. But, could you just image how much exercise you would get with the new Mario Party?

Where is the new generation of Nintendo gaming? Well we're currently at motion sensing...so let's just say the new generation will be virtual reality at a low cost.

So, is there really anything else to say about the Wii? It's the best, cheapest, and only system that's not a computer.

here's a counter to that though, gaming companies don't make games that utilize your computer's specific hardware. Since a ps3 or xbox360 each have standard hardware that goes in every console, it's easy for a game developer to say "lets put a little more beef here, a little less here" ending up with the best performance possible (not always, especially with ports) So even with a really nice computer, there are some games that will just run better on an xbox or ps3. You also have to take into consideration the game titles available for each console/ pc... not a lot of game developers like making pc games because they're so easy to pirate, not to mention expensive to test

The last game I tried to back up, for fear of my 3yr old getting his hands on it, I couldn't, the encryption has gotten to the point that it isn't worth the effort to back them up as you need to run stuff in the back ground just to get them to load then more to get them to play. It's way easier to copy console games, except Nintendo.

if you call this easy, then yes it is easy. I just have better things to do than wait for read errors and such. This is also one of the few encryptions that appears to not need loaders et al to get it to play. Andthen they seem to still have some issues once in awhile......I guess I am just not a true hacker.......

you know you can make "game cd" copies in Alcohol 120% right? most of the time it works and you don't even need a nocd crack... it worked for me with halo, cod2, sim city4, doom3, half life 2... i could go on. You should look into that

the point is, it's really friggin easy to backup a pc game so that's not a very valid argument. Consoles games are a lot harder to hack than pc games (most of them at least) and consoles are standard hardware with games that (are supposed) to utilize that

You remind of those typical Sony fanboys who bash Nintendo for games that look "kiddy" but play better than half of the PS2 games. Do you own a Wii? I don't think so, so please... don't assume the Wii is a failure because of the Nintendo brand. I could easily assume PS3 is a failure because of the typical s*** hardware and the over heating problems, but since I don't own a PS3, I keep my mouth shut and enjoy the consoles that I have (Wii, PS2).

Honestly... people have different opinions on things and different tastes, so don't think you are an example of a person who has the "right" taste in gaming.

I agree with everything that you are saying in its entirety. I would like to also mention that if it wasn't for the Wii, I would have given up on gaming completely. It seems to me that Microsoft and Sony are trying to attract a distinct demographic which are people who don't necessarily care about innovation or game play, but are overly obsessed with graphics and the bogus and outrageously expensive counsel add-ons (i.e. BRD) that don't overall make for a good system, but jacks the system's price up excessively. I guess their reasoning is that if the counsel sucks, the gamer can watch movies on it. That's pretty much what I do now with my PS2! And let's not forget the other half of MS and Sony's target customer, the Hyper Rabid Gamer Pussy. This type spends excessive amounts of money that he has or doesn't have for a game system just because it is overly hyped! And when the hype has become unfounded, the Hyper, Rabid, Gamer Pussy still defends it!

I do admit that Nintendo lost me to Sony with its lackluster N64. However, with how ugly the gaming market has become lately, with its lack of style, substance, and innovation (kinda like Hollywood these days), Nintendo has offered people like me (the more selective gamer) new hope with the Wii. Sony and Microsoft on the other hand just bore me!

I own a Wii, and I'd have to say it's everything that I hoped for and more. Furthermore, I love the controller. It fits nicely in my hand, and offers innovative game play. It makes me feel that I am not a spectator, but part of the action. The extra features on the Wii makes me feel that I really got allot of bang for my buck. The Wii is not just for kids. My wife and parents really enjoy it, and they are most definitely non-gamers. Anyone can mock the Wii like the guy you responded to, but I feel self assured that Nintendo is not ripping me off like the other game companies that I know. I admire Nintendo's reformation and ability to survive as long as it has. I guess that Nintendo has finally taken off its blinders (unlike you know who) and truly sees the big picture.

I thought that Mario on the gamecube was very 'kiddy', and I didn't enjoy it...but

I don't think the wii is for kids. As you can see from nintendo's ads on TV, its clearly aimed at people of all ages. anyway with this system you'll get people who don't normaly play video games playing it, because its easy to use.

great little piece of writing, a joy to read XD

btw - you dont need to make mini images, there all over the internet

and finally

there is one thing i hate about the Wii (maybe its a nintendo ploy to make me fitter)

but its incredibly hard to smoke and play the wii at the same time
