i am not sure if the ps one works the same but if you follow the guide up above it works on all the other units without a swap disk so try it out if it don't work let me know. I believe that the software would run the same the laser looks for psx security then sound and video then security and then runs it or at least that is how i understand it according to the way the swap method actually works. The security is backed up through the eject sensor that the lid pushes down on when closed if you keep the sensor pressed in the security will not retry to look for psx security on disk. The trigger being released and pressed again forces the psx to look for security again so to know that it is not like the ps2 where the eject button can be fooled (how a modchip works right) so with the playstation its a little easier because you can hold down the trigger sensor and bypass the security with say the corner edge of a cereal box a tiny little piece can be wedged in to hold the sensor down.... the reason you need any psx disk that is an original not a copy is because the psx needs to know that the data it is reading is from sony (or for psx anyhow) so after it pretty much verifies the security you would switch to your backup and once it is done loading the music and video it will double check security so you have to swap back to the original before it makes the check... now it is just double checking so you have to quick screen goes black switch back (its fast just like playing jump rope) you have to time it just right so my best advice watch it load an original disk all the way through before you try to do a swap for the first time and pay close attention to the way the disk spins the way the motor sounds you will notice the speed change and that is your key to when you do the swap like i said above its not too hard but it is tricky though there is one way to do it without having to do any swapping at all pick up an original game shark load it either use your codes or select start without codes (keeping in mind that your door is open and reset sensor is stuck in the down position) game shark will still be spinning when it asks you to put the disk in just swap em real quick hit your button to start it and it will load the game without having to swap the disk but the one time this takes a bit longer cause you have to actually load the gameshark first but agian it works just remember that there are games that have mod security on them as well and there are patches to remove them if your in doubt let me know cause i know how it sucks to have wasted a disk and not be able to use it

i am playing backups of imports & locals on my PAL ps-one (the small one) using the swap trick. there is no image degradation. PAL games on a NTSC unit may be seen as black & white but i think that depends on the tv.

there are also patches for NTSC to PAL and vice versa so that you can play imports on any station

Weird that people still do this. Back when I first got into PSX and Saturn imports, I hunted down a PSX dated before Nov 1995, I found one with a Sept or Oct date, just to swap discs to play imports and copies.

Hell, it wokrs very well on the slim linePS2 too

good to go!!

I have heard that it might, but I haven't tried it. Most of the tutorials and vids I have seen either use the action pro replay, or swap magic.

Must be a laser/motor thing. I wouldn't try it though.

good to go!!

I tried, "coz my psxchange 2 disc stopped working", and it worked. Talk about troubleshooting. I was really surprised. Good work Wiz.

I have another problem though, I need to patch my Metal Gear Solid disc 1 from pal to ntsc.

Any help, guys.

I did my swap trick a little different, but it's still swap none the less, ok, Here goes:

(I have a backup of my "psxchange 2" disc, I bought it in 2006 off amazon.com.)

1.) Put in original psx disc and power on psx.
2.) Two seconds after it speeds at 2x, I swap with psxchange 2 backup.
(when you do this it still spins at 2x)
3.) It slows and then spins at 2x again. Let it spin.
4.) When it slows to 1x, I swap with original psx disc.

The original disc will stop and on screen it says "Please insert import disc and press start."

That's it, insert your import or backup and press start.

Enjoy.

*Note*
I always backup any original disc I buy. It payed off.

I do the exact same thing, except in my PSone. it doesnt work for me if i switch the disks as SOON as it speeds up, it only works if i wait for about one full second. But the other switching works just fine.

All this seems to be a bit much. Isnt there a way to burn all the required information that the PS1 needs to boot the ISO?

Hell no!! ur ps only reads pressed/original discs smoothly, the swap trick does exactly that - tricks the ps into thinking it is reading from an original/pressed disc, why do u think u have 2 re-insert the original/pressed disc at the last stage?
Sorry, the only way around this is to get ur ps chipped or use no chip mod discs like psxchange.

Does the swap method work on a fat PS2 if I have a swap card?

no... this is an ancient trick that still requires the original disk, and swapping while the disk is spinning.. You gain nothing from it apart from the great possibility of screwing up your original.

To boot copies of psx games on a ps2 you will need the right boot disk, and they are really hard to find these days. I believe the AR cheats disk/blasterPSX will do it, but you will need to check that out as it may not boot a ps2..

you can do it but at your own(radiation)playstion disc, playstation laser and playstation in general. if your gonna do it you have to be quick and you also have to time it right otherwise it's gonna take a couple tries. so buy a boot disc or take some risks, it's up to you.
