time for a 24" LCD?
Haha coincidentally the "rainy day" savings also happens to be labeled by my parents as the "college fund". Apparently this higher education is all the rage nowadays. Who needs one of those?

we have a lot in common andmill, there's four of us that play SSB on an emulator, no issues with performance though. We use wireless xbox controllers with the same dongle, it's awesome.
IMO all the apevia cases are of so-so build quality really, if you get a case with a door, ideally you want one with a magnetic system like mine.

LOL! Well exactly, however, the 'student loan' obtained through mine kind of turned into a PC Parts fund, hence the 30" Dell. :D
I use sound activated cold cathodes, and whilst they look cool, when there's a continuous rumble from bass or a loud single tone, they 'strobe' if you know what I mean, flash at a fast rate, rather than staying on. It's annoying

Ah yeah well paycheck comes in 4 days. I think i can wait until then.
What emulator do you use? Well for that matter which plug-ins as well. I wish they had internet play on one of them. (so i could pwn you with luigi and kirby :)
I heard that on the PSP deadulus they are trying to. However that can barely hold 30 fps as it is with TONS of graphical errors.
I thought i remember seeing a SNES one that had it but im not sure.
30'?! Im shooting for a 20 inch..

Project64, plugins:
Jabo's Direct3D 8 1.6
Jabo's Directsound 1.6
Jabo's Directinput 7 1.6
works fine for me.
Lol, Luigi is the ownage with his up+B smashes, but you know that Kirby is where it's really at (that's who I play) - a combination of final cutters, brick attacks, and down-kicking people off the edge is a winning combination!

Brick attacks are the cheapest things known to man. Alright those are the same default ones i use.. i was just checking.
Back on topic im probably going to start buying parts at a steady pace over the weeks coming up. I guess i should make a list of what order i should buy them in..
Case of course first.
Then..
The PSU
Then..
The MOBO
Then..
The CPU
Then..
The RAM
Then..
The HDD/CD-DVD drive (Same time i guess)
Then..
The sweet sound activated cathodes
Ooh! Another question. Do i need to buy a 10/1000 ethernet w.e port card thing? NIC card i think its called.. LAN port.. W/e

Cash is super tight at the moment actually. School stuff..
I just want to start gathering the parts before something unexpectedly comes up and my parents say "Oh well you can pay for it".
Nope sorry cant money is all gone on computer parts ;)
one final question. Am i going to need a sound card. If so what brand/model do you recommend. Im not doing any studio recording or HD audio or anything. Just something that sounds good. Lol I dont need any X-FI whatever either.

I used this motherboard in one of my builds and i found the onboard sound to be just fine.... so there really is no need for a sound card.

lol.... no probelm
if you need any more advice on parts just ask.
As for building the computer i really think that video I posted does a great job of showing everything, and with the asus q-connector (u will find out what i am talking about when u get the mobo) pluging in the small power, reset.... cables should not be too hard.

That MOBO is out of stock right now. That and its a BIT too pricy. Would anyone else recommend it though? Is it compatible with the rest of the parts? Would it ACTUALLY make a difference to what i am planning to use the computer for?

lol... they are all very good, it depends on how much you want to spend, and if your going to overclock.
What is the most you want to spend on a mobo?

I've read quite a few reviews on the gigabyte board, it's a very nice overclocker, not sure about the asus board though.
But i don't think you can go wrong with either board.

with out really trying i got the e6320 up to 2.56GHz on the P5K-SE (the one that i first listed) I could have got way more, but there was no point. The motherboard allows for up to 800Mhz FSB

If I had got after market cooling it could have been much better
Overclocking is not too hard, and if you get that board i know its bios well, so i can really help you out. Also make sure to get 800MHz RAM (thats what i listed) as it helps overclocking out alot

Did you get to 2.87 on the stock cooler? Or have you bought something else now? That'd be an impressive overclock if you had.

no... its got a zalman 9500LED, core temps has not been over 37c at full load (using othros, and super pi mod) (t-jun is 85c). Oh... and its now at 2.9GHz. (keep in mind i am in a 17-20c room)
as for my other overclock (the 2.54GHz one) that was stock cooling, and I was still way under the highest temp possible for the C2D's I would think i could have got around 2.75Ghz on that CPU.
BTW sam, I am building a computer for a friend very soon, I am wondering if you would recommend getting the new C2Ds with the 1333MHz FSB? or just stick with something like the E6300

I've not really looked into them much, but the 800mhz and 1066mhz versions haven't got any worse, and you can make 3.4Ghz out of an E4300 easily enough, and they're so cheap!

I'm running a Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHZ 1333FSB, with a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R board, with a xp-90 thermalright cooler.
What do you think I can safetly get this up to?
