If u downloaded NBA Live 2008 it wont work because it is already an iso file. Thus blending in that BOOT file that we dont want. Downloads wont work. RENT OR BUY!

i have gotten both methods to work with and without the boot.pad file, the KEY thing you have to do is once you copied the filed to the new folder, you have to use Image-Burn or whatever software you use to put it back into an image before you use decrypter or nero to burn, if try to let nero do it it wont work, you have to rip back into an image first then burn it. I use image burn.

i appreciate the thank yous. some people can be rude when people post questions. sometimes you'll get a response like "it's already been covered in another thread." & they wont answer your question.
the way i see it is that if someone takes the time to post "it's already been covered in another thread.", they can post the actual answer. anywayz i'm glad to help anytime.
if anyone still cant get nba live 08 to work, i also heard of a gnie patch for it, although i wasn't able to find an active link for it, but i realy didn't look for it very long. it's just another option.

wow the different ways we finally got the game to work some chose to rebuild the iso files to new folder removing the boot.pad file then recreate another iso image then burn to dvd-r; some chose to rebuild the iso image to a new folder not removing the boot.pad file then burn the rebuilt files to dvd-r (this the method i chose) anyways ty every1 4 ya input i wasted 9 dvd-r b4 gettin it right lol!!!

yeah theres more than one way to skin a cat. & hey, that's what these forums are about. helping each other out. & i personally thank everyone who helped me out along the way. now, if anyone has ever heard of mugen, & happen to stumble on a method to get it to work on ps2, lemme know!!! it's the best fighting game ever. if you don't know what mugen is, google it. there's some youtube videos that show exactly what mugen is.

What if the backup freezes after switching swap magic 3.6 with
a backup. The screen that it freezes on is the loading screen.
Backup is about 4.6gb

the problem is is that your backup is too big for swap magic, which is the same problem that we had with nba live 08. swap magic can only handle backups that are smaller than 4.37gb.
4.36gb is the maximum. go to the 1st couple of pages on this forum, & choose which technique you want to use to shrink the backup. you can choose the technique i posted (which i think is the easiest way), or anyone elses. by the way, what game are you trying to backup?

for the record, i didnt have to do anything to 2k8 to get it to work, it worked with a regular copy of the disc, swap magic 3.6 or 3.8

hey warria, everything that you need to know on how to backup nba live 08 is on this thread. most of the software that you need to do this with is free.
in fact, all of them are free, although i think you will eventually need to purchase nero, unless you can get your hands on an oem version. just google search for the programs & you'll find them for free. some of them you can even find here.
follow the advice on this thread & you'll successfully back it up.

The game works fine if you rebuild and take that boot file out. But anyways it sucks so bad don't waste your time on it. I got both versions nba 2k8 and live 2008 is 100 times better. It looks better and plays better. Live looks horrible i think their graphics are worse now than ever. 2k8 looks almost as good as the early versions of the xbox 360 nba games. Of course your best bet of all is to buy 2k8 for xbox 360.

The BOOT.PAD file is almost 2 gigs, is it really smart to delete a 2gig thing from a game? >.>

bigbanga, i recommend my method that's at the 1st page of this thread. that's the method i used & it worked. the truth is, choose wateva method is easier for you to do.
all of the methods on this thread should work if done properly, with good media. try one method, & if it doesn't work, try another.

I tried using Gnie's Tool Expert program to rebuild the image, and I was able to make the game smaller than 4.7gb and I was able to boot up the game. Just download that program and follow these steps (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/298097)and it should work.

I tried your method on 2 iso's that were about 3.5 gigs but would freeze during loading. Live being one of them it got a little smaller but now gives "not a valid ps2 game" on the swap magic screen. Bootpad file was kept, could this be the error.
The another Iso got about 2.5 g smaller passed the loading screen
passed the memory card check, but then froze at the developers logo.

ok. sorry to hear that. what type of media are you using? try to stick with dvd-r (taiyo yuden or verbatim are the best media to use).
as far as my method goes, it should have worked. try draging the files directly from isobuster into nero in the exact order, instead of putting them in a folder & then dragging to nero.
if my method doesn't work, try slimthugga's way. either way, one of them should work. oh, and make sure that you burn at 1/2 speed, if you have 8x dvds, burn at 4x, 16x dvds, burn at 8x.

You have to burn the files in the same order as they were copied on your HD
Then it will work 100%

burned at lowest speed, also when you drop the files into nero it doesn't keep it in the order which you dropped it in.
a)Was the boot pad not needed?
b)I don't have the ISO anymore can the backup be opened
and the files from the backup be dropped into nero or
does dvd decrytor have to be used like if the backup
was the original.
c)How can a image of the dvd directory be
submitted for comparison reasons to see if files are correct?
