I could have swore I read that at least 80% of the people with problems with the slim that don't play backups are related to standing it on a vertical stand....;)
Even with the best media you still loose the lens way to early.
My game backups work with the ps2 slim (70004 CB) on a vertical stand.
I dont see why anyones wouldnt. Thats not the subject either. They may work but from what I hear (and from what I hear inside my playstation when its standing on its side) its not that great in the end. Maybe its just me and I am wrong but I hear that everywhere they sell them and all the Mom and Pop type game stores urge not to do it.

Probably? At least to my knowledge the slim PS2s are still bad regardless of what position you play your PS2 in. The poorly ventilated slim PS2s are exposed further depending on your average room temperature. Getting an optional fan like a usb fan to cool something like the launch 360s does certainly help. Just gets annoying somewhat you know you have to spend an extra 30 or so for something to function properly.
Exactly! Think about it like this, if it is standing straight up and down that is less surface space you have so the more heat will build up inside. If it is laying on its bottom like it should you have more surface space letting heat escape.
For the guy with the fan idea, its probably not working any better than it would laying the way it should. Besides standing it up and down is meant to save space but when you have that door flipping open it usually seems to take up space anyway.

Whats strange about this is I have the same symptoms. My burnt games will work for a few hours and will eventually stall and stop working. But my ps2 is a fatty v7. I thought my problem was related to bad media, but I've been through several different brands (including verbatim) and none of them seem to work. I recently ordered Taiyo-yuden dvd-r's so Ill see how those work out. I have no idea why my back ups dont work...

Think about the obvious reasons for starts....IE, how often do you use it, how often do you maintenance it and so forth. Also what kind of conditions are the non backed up/ original copies? If you play hard and play games with allot of scratches and never maintenance the thing, these could all lead to this.

It's a media problem. Trust me. When you get you Taiyo Yudens, you should notice a difference.

I doubt that. Sony is just as good and so is Verbatim. Those discs arent that magical.

Well, they are 1st Class media...Sony and Taiyo-Yuden. But if he has Taiyo-Yudens coming, he should be fine with those.
And I agree with you becuase I use Sony discs myself, plus they are readily available.
good to go!!

Unfortunately it was not! I tried the Taiyo Yudens and the games worked for awhile, then STOPPED. It froze up and stopped working. I've pretty much given up on backups, ive wasted so much money for nothing.

Fat PS2's read differently than slimPS2's. I used to use Memorex and Imation when I had my fat, and they read fine. But in the slim they would not read at all.
However certain larger TOC games that did not read on either my fat or slim, when I switched media to Sony barnd, they read fine on both.
good to go!!

I told yah it wasnt the media!
What speed are you burning at? That may also be the problem but I would look into a new CD rom assembly also cause it may just be old. Oh well I guess like you said you have spent to much money on this for that option now..... Told yah so!
