I think everything is alright, but I just don't have the right recordable DVD disk needed to burn my DVD. I have tried DVD-R and DVD+RW. On the CD drive, it says DVD ReWritable and DVD R/W. Can you tell me what this means and what I need to buy in order to burn my DVD.

Yes I have changed my Nero version. Downloaded exactly what you sent me. I also have a DVD burner on my laptop and I have tried to burn my DVD on it as well and it says the same thing, that I am using the wrong type of recordable DVD Here is my log for the trial on my laptop.

OK , as you can see we have now eliminated the error where it calls for MPEG encoder...according to this log you are able to use either format...+R or -R but it does look strange as it indicates it needs a CD and not a DVD in this particular case. Can be a firmware issue but I cannot find anything on your burner...will keep looking though.

Sorry for the delay in replying but today has been rather hectic.

Is this your laptop

Are you using a rewritable disc by any chance.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400. Yes I have been using a DVD ReWritiable disk (DVD+RW), should I use DVD-RW? Or should I be using a differnt kind? I can burn CD's perfectly fine, but can not burn DVD's.

Using RW discs could be the problem, get yourself some +r or -R fromat discs...preferably Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)...only buy a small quantity to see if it fixes your problem.

I have tried the Memorex DVD-R disks. Don't you have to buy the appropriate disks for the type of burner you have? How can I tell what disks will work on my burner. I have now bought 3 differnt types of recorable DVD's and none of them are the right types. DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW. Does the brand name on the DVD matter at all?

i see this but updating nero its gone

Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?

so no worries...

these discs you used what is the dye code?, will read over again...
----------

in your first logs it says AVIVCD, VCD being written to cdr or cdrw discs

so

what is your project avi to vcd or svcd ?

explain your whole project what you have and what settings you use and what you want to get to? sounds abit like if you want avi to dvd your not going the dvd project route,

now

this could be due to the mpeg error? nero needs a serial plugin code for mpeg2 (dvd complinat files / burning) otherwise all the option will be only vcd / svcd probably?

have you done any projects ok before or is this the first time?

asking for cdrw sounds like vcd/svcd project...
------------------------
now if you dont own nero plugin codes try dvd flick its free for testing avi to dvd. (and your drive is ok)

may need a full codec pack installed though = k-lite mega codec pack <-- its free.
------------------------
bit of reading up info on drive specs, threw it in as was looking meself ;-]

http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/Storage-D...-R-RW-Review/2/

NOTE: Installation

Installation of the AOpen DUW1608/ARR, like most optical drives, was a breeze. The only thing to remember is the drive does require an ATA66 ribbon cable, not the ATA33 ribbon cable most slower burning optical drives use.

means an 80 wire ide cable
----------------
odd that before you updated nero the log shows

=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1200BB-00DWA0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : AOPEN DUW1608/ARR atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: On

then when updated it shows

=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : Hitachi HTS541080G9SA00 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On

oh i see you have 2 pc's! ok this brings me back to first comment i made, your first pc has this

Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?

could be bios not on auto detecting? although dma is on...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

@Rotary, the first log is from his/her desktop and the 2nd log is from a laptop.

EDIT: Sorry Rotary I didnt read all of your post, Cheers.....so basically the problem is that for some reason neither burner is recognizing DVDs.

I would like to see a log after the updates on the desktop to see whats going on

All of my videos I wanted to burn were in MP4 format. I have now converted them into vob format. I have burnt Cd's prefectly fine, but this is the first time I have tried to burn a DVD. I am trying to make it so I can watch it in a DVD player. The MPEG problem is not present on my laptop computer. Do you know if there is a way to change the settings so that it says that I don't need CdRW. Here is my lastest log.

You are still using the unstable version of Nero...6.6.1.4...unless you consider my recommendation to change to the much more stable version of 6.6.0.18 then your problems will continue.

Hopefully the change will take care of the encoder problem....it is in my opinion the best of Nero 6 versions.

I have downloaded that version you have told me to use. I don't understand how that could've happened? Well, I will uninstall it and try downloading it again from the site you you gave. Have any new problems came up, or has anything been fixed. Besides the version of Nero I am using?

When I put in DVD disks, it always reads that I have a CD in the Drive and not a DVD. Is there a way to change the settings so it will show that I have inserted a DVD rather then a CD? Maybe that is the problem?

I think I have found the problem. I think I just have to change the settings of the compilation. Is there a way to download Nero Burning Rom for free? Or do I have it already when I downloaded Nero on the links you gave me? If I have it already, would you please show me where it can be found? Thank You!

When you say click DVD-DVD video, I do not have that option. There is a setting that says "Make CD", and then when I put the cursor over it, it says "Video CD". Here is a screen shot of what I think I need to change the compilation to DVD. My screen does not show that I can make a DVD, like the screen shot you have showed.

I want to access this, so that I can change the settings to DVD. I have a DVD burner, but through NeroVision Express 3 SE it only shows that I can make a CD and not a DVD. I think it is something simple that I am missing, like some setting is not what it is supposed to to be.

I am not too familiar with DVD Flick, so I don't know for sure. But it does show that I can make a DVD. I tried burning one video onto a DVD and it didn't do anything. When I first insert the blank DVD it asks me if I want to create a CD, or burn audio CD. And that I have inserted a blank CD. When I click on the drive it tell me though that I have a blank DVD+R DL disk in the drive.

When Burning should a light come on your CPU that show you that you are actually burning? Because I do not have that. It shows up when burning CD's but not DVD's.

When we purchased the computer and laptop, they had burners already installed.
