Based on previous models, here's how I'd rate the burners I'd consider buying:
For DVD burning:
1. Pioneer
2. Plextor (they may actually be as good as Pioneers, but I've never owned one so I can't rate them as high)
3. Lite-On
For Copy Protected CD Burning:
1. Plextor
2. Lite-On
No other brands can do this
For Price:
1. Lite-On
2. Pioneer
3. Plextor (but it's a distant #3)
I don't include NEC on this list because they've made some drives that seem pretty reliable and others that aren't so reliable. If you added them to the list they'd be #1 for price and a distant #4 for DVD burning.
Thanks for posting the link because they still weren't listed the other day when I looked and I'd forgotten to look since. The price seems great, and I definitely expect to buy one within the next few months.

I own a nec nd 2510a and i can tell you its a good drive, if i could do it over i would go with the plextor that nephilim has if i could get it for under 100 bucks OEM.. i got this drive for 72 dollars OEM and the only complaints i have is that is not fully EFM capable.. this drive will backup copy protections... all of them except the newest SECUrom protections and the Safedisk 3.x protections.

those drives are both "2 sheep" or fully EFM capable burners... but what makes it special is that they are the only DVD burners that are fully EFM capable in their cd burning.

I read somewhere that my 107 is a one sheep burner.
And yet I've backed up copy protected audio cd's, and copy protected pc games with Alcohol 120%. Or am I on the wrong track completely.

well agent k, it depends on the settings your using with alcohol.. if your reading the disk with the safedisk 2/3 setting with the bypass EFM error box check then thats why the backup works (im going to gueess that you have the "ignore media type" setting turned on also. Its possible to make backups of games up to safedisk 2.51 without a very EFM capable drive bbut the will not be 1:1 and will neen emulation to run. If you drive is EFM capable you can do up to safedisk 3.15 and get 1:1 copies without much trouble that need no emulation

So if I had one of the above mentioned burners, I wouldn't need emulation to play the back up disc?
Not that I've needed it so far but I may not have copied a Safedisc disc.
I let clony and alcoholer set the settings so I don't remember what they were.
I usually rip the disc and then mount the image in a virtual drive.

OK I just got back from holiday, and still none of you no what I am trying to say!!!
This is how it is: I have been doing copies for a lady dj who is quite well known and also copies for other not well known dj's in the area. They produce a orignal ie a 60-70 min mix so that I can produce them in quantity for the dj lady to distibute in clubs so that fellow followers of the same music ie dance/trance/hard house will look out for her in the future at clubs. If they like the music it will pull more clubbers in at different venues!!! If the clubbers have a free sample in the club they will not say no!!!
And if they like what they hear they will look out for the dj in the future at clubs or they can book the dj's through certain websites etc.
Now do you understand what I do??? Thats why I have a 1-7 duplicator!!! I have permission from the dj's as they give me a copy of their mix and all i do is copy them in quantity and they hand them out in clubs. I get paid for this so why is it illegal guys??? I have permission from the dj and she makes money out of it in the end briniging more punters to the club she dj's at!!!
PIODATA 8X RITEK DISCS ARE THE BEST!!!
