hello everyone I had a ? I have been looking at LCD monitors for some time and I was wondering if it is really important to have a DVI slot on the LCD monitor any info would be great.

If you are going to an LCD, then you want one that has digital capablilites. You also want a video card that has a digital cable connection, and you want a digital cable.

DVI will give you a better picture than analog so to me it was important. I have the Hyundai L90D+ monitor which has both DVI and Analog inputs.

BTW, I do recommend the Hyundai, it's an 8ms LCD monitor with quite a few features. I have noticed no ghosting at all in games. My only complaint with it would be that you have to feel for the buttons on it since they were on the underside of the panel.

Hello everyone... Although I don't really know too much about monitors, I ordered the UltraSharp digital flat panel from Dell when I purchased this Dell 4700 two months ago. Definitely a good choice for me; the clarity and resolution is incredible. Mine is connected via that DVI that was mentioned above.
If you go with a digital flat panel, make certain that you connect via the DVI. Surprisingly, some people are buying a digital flat panel but are connecting it via the analog connection. This kind of defeats the purpose of buying a digital flat panel in the first place.
Good luck with your purchase; I think you'll be quite amazed with the difference and performance.

to be honest im not that amazed by them, id prefer a 21" crt anyday but it takes up too much room, and mines a 12ms response

I've got the Samsung 930B 19" inch LCD and it his has an 8ms response time. I haven't seen any ghosting at all in any game i've played. BestBuy sells this monitor for 430$ with an 80$ rebate....you can't beat that price for a quality 19" monitor. Also, the monitor is digital with a DVI input...Later

hello everyone once again i thank everyone for there inputs on this subject. I was looking at the samsung 915n LCD its a 19" and its 8ms but it has no DVI slot on it. I do not no since it only has analog I dont know if it would be wise to spend the extra and get one that is DVI. Any inputs on this

Hey DDP I don't know if it has a input and a output I havent yet purchased the GPU yet. I could tell u which one im getting and maybe you could tell me if it does or not. That is a very good card, it has a DVI output & will work well with a LCD screen, make sure your pc is PCI-E and not AGP ;)

Hi Nate.... I found this nice report on flat oanel monitors so I thought I'd list the address here for you. It has some pretty good info about some digital flat panels; perhaps it might help you out a bit in making your decision.
I really enjoy my Dell UltraSharp, and it is far better than whet I expected. I mistakingly connected it via the analog connection cable at first; but then I called Dell to ask about the other cable that is also supplied and he told me to connect it via DVI as I paid extra for the better video card. I don't know the exact model number of this video card as I am still somewhat new and still learning. (I think it is Radeon...)This flat panel is wonderful indeed; I really appreciate the quality and performance when I do my photo editing and enhancements.

The 6800 would be a better bet as the extra 4 pixel pipes would negate the extra speed offered by the 6600GT,plus it would also be better at higher resolutions .....
If your looking for a TFT LCD have a look at dell.com they usually have some pretty good offers on their widescreen jobbies, i use a 2005 FPW and have no complaints in either gaming or movies & photo editing

View Sonic makes great LCDs .i think the best out there check the one in my sig. along with the video card it kicks ass. and View Sonic has some new LCDs on the market with a 4mm respone time

Note that a lot of this text was taken from a previous post I did in March with a few exceptions?
When you start looking at LCD's and you start to compare specs, you might notice something very unique with every single one of them, like all:
17" LCD monitors have a Pixel Pitch of 0.264mm
19? LCD monitors have a Pixel Pitch of .294mm
15? LCD monitors have a Pixel Pitch of .297mm
They might change a bit here and there with their response times, contrast ratio and brightness, but all in all they will be so close it will amaze you.
If you are a gamer, try to have a Response Time less than 25ms, most gamers prefer under 18ms.
Brightness-300cd/m2 and up, this might be a factor if viewing under certain lighting conditions.
Contrast-400:1 and up, most now are at least 450:1.
A funny thing happened when Costco puts LCD monitors on sale, like a Princeton for example. The Website of Princeton had better specs for their exact same monitor then what Costco showed for them, which helps to justify a price difference.
I still am a firm believer that Price is what matters most on this at this time since most specs are nearly all the same, or tweaked a bit to help justify a difference in price, unless they have other features such as a better stand, USB?s built in, etc.

Good morning everyone... Good points! I forgot to mention that feature about the UltraSharp having two USB ports on the monitor. I never knew this would come in handy until I used my digital camera and I needed to load all my photos into the pc.
It is so convient to have the USB ports right in front of me for very easy access to connect the cable. One of those small benefits that you only appreciate when you don't feel like crawling around the floor to get to the the tower, trying to connect a USB cable.
I really don't quite understand all the specs of monitors, but I did know I wanted the digital flat panel when I bought this new Dell two months ago. Turned out to be a fantastic choice for me. Even though I'm not into gaming, I do appreciate the crisp resolution for all my photo editing needs.
The Dell monitor has quite a bit of extra tweaks and settings on it too, which some other manufacturers do not put on theirs. I didn't find the need to tweak anything though, as the default settings were right-on for my liking.
Now.... If only I could be as pleased with Dell's customer support (in India); I'd really be happy. But that is a subject for another time, lol! (not pertianing to the monitor...monitor's great.) (a missing reinstall CD; that's all...)

Yes, those USB's come in very handy. When I first saw them, I actaully wondered "what the heck would you plug into your monitor"?
But then the first time I wanted to connect my portable flash drive; or my digital camera; I quickly realized how handy they are. It sure beats fumbling around the tower; trying to insert the USB cable and/or flash drive into a port.
With the ports on the monitor, it is so easy for me as the ports are at my eye level and easily seen and reached (middle ages here, lol..:)
When I bought this pc, I never knew these ports were on the monitor! So it was a pleasant surprise.
