Hey guys I am running XP Corp SP2, Nero 6, and have a 2 year old generic usb2 enclosure that I have no way of updating firmware. I had an I/0 Magic, a Sony and now a Pioneer DVR-109 burner and all give me the same SCSI error with Nero 6.6. I tried Roxio 7 and got a Aborted by Host error. I have found a solution here: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/reccomended.html It just uses DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to rip and burn. I was already using these to rip, shrink and decrypt, just Nero to burn. Now that I'm doing it this way I like it better and no more errors!

Hi Comy168,
You should start a new thread, or use one that corresponds to your issue.
Your log file shows that you are getting a KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR, which indicates your recorder is having troulbe writing to the media you have inserted. The Ritek media is a very good brand, so either you need to upgrade your firmware, clean the optical heads on your recorder, or try another batch or brand of media, in case you just got a bad batch.

just saying hi to all in this thread. been a while since i last reported anything with my situation. since page 16 or so i have tried patches galore, different aspi setups basicaly anything that looked like it might work, but alas to no avail!! its good to see craig from Nero is still keeping an eye on this thread (i take my hat off to u friend, u r a rare comodity these days).any way in my own humble way i still get the feeling that the big boys from m/s should be looking into this by now, this problem is just too wide spead. lets all keep smiling!!! bye 4 now

Hi Craig,
How do you clean the optical heads of the DVD writer? Will the one that cleans the standalone DVD player do it? I have the latest firmware from Sony. And I have tried Ritek. Although it has successfully burned, it take more than 1 hr to burn 1 DVD no matter how fast I set (2x, 2.4x, 4x). The buffer level just jumping up and down.
Thanks,

The best way to clean the optical head is to open the unit up, and use one of those 'Camera Lens' cleaners, or an anitstatic cloth to very gently wipe the optical head. But you must be very careful as you can do serious damage if your not careful in cleaning or opening the unit up.
If it's under warranty, I would not recommend using that option, or if your not sure of yourself.
Another way is to get a can of compressed air and blow it in the drive, and sometimes this will clean off the head.
And last, is to use one of the CD or DVD cartridge cleners. But this is a last resort and should be used only as a last resort, as the these contan brushes that can scratch and damage the optical head if used too often.

Craig

LOL! I am sorry. I have a Laptop Toshiba Pentium 4 2G
728 Mb Ram and Pioneer DVR109 in an external Case USB2.
I am using CloneDVD and AnyDVD.
When it copy the Original DVd everything is fine and then i put the blank DVD in the Pioneer and it start burning for 5 sec and then i have a Media Error.
I have read in the forum that it is maybe due to the external DVD, but i did not find the answer.
Thank You

still need a log from burning software - if it's Nero (or Shrink using Nero semi-automatically) then the log is here or hereabouts - "c:\Program Files\ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log". look down the end of file (it's appended to, well mine is), and look for last section, remember to edit out your serial number, usually begins with '1A21' or similar..

ok, i did say 'IF' you use Nero. As you don't it would still be helpful to others (and maybe me) if you can post an error log of sorts, or more info...

Use DVD Shrink again, and shrink it once more, it will probably show 99.1% or something.
I've had it do that occasionally.

@Yoni55 - all i can see so far (sorry it's very early) is that you'r burning at 8x, and that it's a PS2 game (ISO). What media are you using and have you tried any previous burns at a lower speed.. ?

Quote: caused by a bad media
that snippet from your log could well be telling the truth - Memorex is, well, the absolute pits when it comes to media. There are numerous threads, even last week alone about all things Memorex.. It would be worth lowering the burn speed right down, if that doesn't work you should look at getting some decent media before wasting any more money on Memorex.
Many ppl can't even get Memorex to work at low speeds, never mind 8x. In movie burning a lot of us stick to 4x, and that's on excellent media such as TY, Fuji, Maxell, Verbatim datalifeplus etc ..

So you think that the problem is coming from MEMOREX?
What Kind of DVD would you use for PS2 Backup?
" " "" '"" " Movie Backup?
Is it better to burn Dvd-R or DVD+R?
Thanks Creaky!

@yoni55 -
For memorex - have a look here
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/176177#938242 - down the bottom of the thread i've linked to 2 huge memorex debates.. You basically want decent quality media, but media that is also a good fit for your burner, ie recommended for your burner. You may have success if you lower your speed as low (and slow lol) as you can with the media you've got for now.. But when you buy some more, get something better..
i don't backup PS2 stuff but the same applies re decent media..
As for -R and +R have a look here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/4/168921#937625
Hope that helps a bit

It's not the media and it's not just Nero. It's Nero, CloneDVD, and Roxio so far. I have a Toshiba P4 3 Gig with 1 Gig RAM and Pioneer DVR-109 in USB2 case and have tried XP SP1 and SP2 . I am 100% the problem is the case. Don't know why. I get the bad media error from CloneDVD, the SCSI error from Nero, and the Aborted by Host error from Roxio. Just burn with DVD Decrypter and you'll have no more problems.
