Try burning with DVDFab guys. DVD Decrypter stopped working for me after I installed 3.5.4.0 , hell it may have even stopped working before that. I dunno, I haven't been burning alot of DVD-R's. I tried going back to 3.5.3.0 but it didn't make a difference. Even updated Firmware, Chipset and ASPI drivers and it still wouldn't work. A burnt DVD-R just popped out of the drive. I burnt it from an image I made with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. DVDFab can probably replace DVD Decrypter at least. I dunno, I just installed it.
If DVDFab works fine, then obviously something is wrong with Nero, DVD Decrypter, CloneDVD 2, etc and it isn't my enclosure or media.

I had errors trying to burn one disc image and another DVD disc image burnt flawlessly.
Try running DVDIdle alongside it.

Hi, I replaced a PC with a new laptop recently, thought I'd save money by using my existing Internal DVDRW and mount it in an external case through USB2. First Learning: Big Mistake!! SCSI error with Nero. At the top of this thread someone suggested using DVD decryter to rezero the drive, it took me a long time to try it ( I was more interested in what Craig had to say) but it worked!! If I rezero the drive immediately before the burn I NEVER have any problems. I have, of course also downloaded the Nero Updates and unchecked the "High Compatability Mode" or whatever it is. I hope this helps someone.

Put a blank disc in the drive. Open DVD Decrypter, go to Tools/Drive/ReZero. Open Nero, burn your DVD.

You will need two free programs DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. DVD Shrink will compress your movie to fit on DVD 5 disk. Look in my sig for the guides by Scuba Pete and bbmayo these will give you step by step instructions on how to burn a DVD. :-)

now i have a new weird problems, this is the 3rd mad dog external dvd writer Ihave replaced. This time, it is recognized as a CD-Drive under windows explorer and it is recognized as MAD DOG MD-16XDVD9A2 USB Device under device manager. I still cannot burn DVD-R's with those weird scsi errors. However, DVD Decrypter even does not recognize the drive. When i open DVD Decrypter, it only recognized my cd-rw driver on my laptop, the external dvd writer's drive letter does not show up. But Nero infotool recognizes it as a DVD+-R/RW DL Recorder.
Anyone has any answer for this? Thank you very much.

I had similar problem as some of you with burner hanging on the lead-in writing (alcohol, Nero). My hardware is LG GSA-4163B, DELL Latitude 610 iwth USB1.0 and PCMCIA card for USB2.0.
Yestarday I solved the problem (??? - as for now I have burnt only 3 DVDs but all with success). My PCMCIA card is equipped with the auxiliary supply input for devices that need more supply that PCMCIA is able to give. I connected a cable provided with the card for connecting it to PS2 port.
It's may be strange as the drive case has separate supply, but it works. I have to test it more, not only 3 DVD disks...
What do you think about that? Does it help you?

it helps for you but not for me, becouse i've got a retail external burner with it's own power supply.
but i would test a little more just to be sure it keeps working:)

My hunch is the USB. Ensure no other USB devices including mouse are plugged into the USB port.

As I wrote the additional supply cured a problem for me but not finally. I could burn DVDs with no problems connecting my LG GSA 4163 in the case to the USB2.0 port as the only device connected. Burning with the HDD connected to the second USB port was not possible (Reset occured). But... I installed the driver for the burner case (ALI M5621 chipset) and PCMCIA USB2.0 card (OrangeWare Corporation) and now, after burning about 30 coasters in the past configuration, there is no problem!

Hey guys! Just a moment!
I have a quesyion after opening this topic. Some of you mentioned that they have attached an external dvd burner to a usb 1.1 port.
Since my laptop is an old one can I use his usb 1.1 port to connect my external dvd burner, and leave the 1394 connection for my desktop? This will save me a lot of time in transfering files from one workstation to the other.

I have not done it personally, but know others who have. The main problem is the speed. USB 1.1 can only sustain a 1X DVD burn. The problem is is that most media out there does not support that slow a burn. If you happen to find some that your burner recognises then the only thing that you need to do is check whether your USB interface can sustain the near maximum throughput, ie give it a go using a simulation first.

My laptop also has USB1.0 only, but it has PCMCIA port. I bought USB2.0 through PCMCIA card (~$21 including shipping found on yahoo shopping). For sure I installed the drivers provided, not by Micro$hit.

Okay, so much for my luck :-( After having burned on USB2 for several months now, the dreaded error returned.
I am pretty sure that it occured after I plugged in a camera and cardreader, both using USB. So my money is still on this being a problem related to the usb drivers, or some sort of problem controlling the drive, if there are more than one device in the usb chain.
Just my 5 cent. I am switching back to firewire now - the memory of sleepless nights from using USB still haunts me, and my therapist has taught me to say NO ;-)
