I personally don't think there's any point in getting a PS3 modded, why? Because Sony is probably going to end up using Blu-Ray Discs which are around 30GB and it would take forever to backup, and some people might not be able to do it because their hard drive probably doesn't have the space. I have a 40GB hard drive and with all the tools and stuff for burning and some personal stuff, I only have around 10-15GB of free space left. It's extremely bad for those who download the games (not that I do, I buy all my games and back them up), it would probably take a month to complete a download. Backing up a 30GB game would probably take hours or even some days. And damn, why does Sony have to make the hard drive be an add-on instead of making it built-in? But I personally think it will be included because I heard that the PS3 will run on linux and the only way to run linux is to have it installed onto a hard drive. Tell me what you think. Do you think I'm correct? Do you think I'm incorrect? Please tell me what you think.

First off , just because blu-ray can hold 25gigs, doesnt mean the games are gona be that big. and second, their not even gona start off using blu-ray right away, so by the time they do start making games that big, developers are gona need faster transfers to. So there will be better faster tech out there when the time comes. Linux will be a secondary OS for the ps3. Then, they have fat32 drives which are really small capacities, and sometimes can be smaller then a normal hardrive, and their purpose is for specifally carring an OS, so you might not need that hardrive you were talking about.

most people have more than a 40 gig hard drive..
if you getting any kind of decent computer it will have 160 or more.
hard drives are cheap now, and blue ray is supposed to be up to 50 gigs.

think about it...normal ps2 games are around 4.5GB and sometimes the developers have to go pass the limit and use DVD-DL, and i mean look at the ps3s graphics....its a lot better than ps2, a lot. I mean the developers are going to make games around 30GB-40GB, i mean...put the game (story and everything) + the graphics....thats going to be big. I really doubt ps3 games are going to be around 10GB, ps2 had games almost 10gb, i think gt4 was like 7-8gb. so tell me, dont you think he game itself for ps3 + the graphics will be well over 20GB?

Definately, the elap from playstation 1 to playstation 2 was insane.
Think how big a megadrive (genesis) rom is compared to san andreas.
If blu ray can hold 25GB then they will max t out, all u gotta think of is a 100+hour RPG with intense FMV's, anyone who's rebuilt a ps2 image and removed movies from a back up knows how much space they can take up.
The bigger the better i say.

Well, they should have Blu-ray recorders in the future if things goes to plan as Sony aims to get Blu-ray to be as popular as DVDs (which is ambitious to say the least). But some sites predict that Blu-ray recorders should fall to roughly what good DVD media should be priced at now.
I'm not too hopeful, if I do buy a PS3 when it launches, I'll be buying the games and not bother backing them up.

new media is inevitable..
we will soon have to buy new dvd players because all this new stuff is blue laser compared to our red laser players now.
it is a battle of hd-dvd and blue ray, and blue ray is much better quality, so they will easily take the lead. the only drawback is that hd-dvd is coming out first. but with ps3 coming out and blue laser compatible, most people will already have BR players in their home.. which will make it easier for them to switch over to BR. xbox 360 is sticking with the already outdated DVD-9.
there is no doubt that we will have recorders and whatever soon to follow.

im probably going to buy myself a ps3 and im gonna backupmy "original" games......but perosnally....i dont want to switch to Blu-Ray and i think a lot of people dont want to either. They probably have a collection of DVDs and probably DVD-/+R RW R-DL R+DL drives in their computers and laptops and everything.

the new players will be backwards compatible..
you can play all your old stuff still.. but why would you want to keep things the same? thats like saying you wanted to keep vhs, because dvd's were too new. There is no force to change, if you want to keep buying dvd's and play them im sure you can, just as you could just use vhs now.. but why would you? vhs is obsolete, and dvd will soon be.
once you see the quality of these new high definition players and tv's and movies. id expect you to change your mind.
you should always welcome new technology. Id expect any afterdawn member to feel the same. I certainly do.

true...change of subject..but dont you hate how consoles come out each 5 years and you have to keep up?...like danm it so annoying..why not spend a lot of time and develope a system thats maybe 2-5times better than the ps3 and just play that for maybe 7-8years...i just hate having o spend $400-$600 each 5 years....that might sound like not a lot...but y not make it like a computer...y not sell a coputer with the latest and best parts and a built in system...i really want a coputer with a built in system....damn i gotta stop dreaming

is your gt4 backup fully working?
or do you need to use the original then swap it after the menu?
i was following this game for a while, as well as god of war, which i did get to work, and was probobly one of the first to use sonix's tool...
but no one cracked gt4 so i havent read about it since april first.
fully working on a single layer or no? i dont have the dms4 chip.. i was mistakenly given a matrix infinity.

and i disagree, i actually like how new consoles come out.. like i said, we dont HAVE to buy a new one, they still will make ps2 games and we can use the ps2 as long as we want.
but id like to have the option to buy a better one if i wanted to. i dont usually buy them when they first comes out, ill wait till the price drops down a lot. But i do enjoy playin it at friends' houses.
my ps2 slim gets the job done for now.. and i have almost every game id ever want for it.
its true that it would be cool if we could skip a step and go on to the next, but technology never stays the same, its always getting better. I know that they purposely dont give out the newest technology available, so that they can profit off older stuff too, but even if we skipped ps3 and went to ps4, we'd still go onto ps5 a couple years later. computer or not, it would just change every couple years.

Well, right now im burning it onto a DVD5...i have a pretty slow computer...and i forgot to back it up earlier...so im going to do it later...from what ive heard...they or the person took out the movies from the menu and it supposed to work great...so i did that and im going to try it later.

Oh, and I just want to say....I eally don't want to buy an HDTV just to play a gaming system that will problably cost around $400 US...so around maybe $450 CAN. So say around $450+$1500=$1950..thats almost $2000. I want to play on my normal TV or hook it up to my new computer monitor...its a slim one...made by Acer and well, I think I can call it an LCD. I dunno.

Bugger!i didnt see this thread....
i think it is worth modding, cause i wonna play my ps2 backups on ps3, i dont think ps3 games will get over 15gbs, God Of War was almost at the ps3 level, and that is only 7.9gbs, if it gets modded, i will have to start buying Dual layered DVD+R 8.5gb discs, and can i heard that ps3 requires a "HD television", wtf is a hd tv? and why cant it work on a normal philips 21" tv?

No not the cable, I'm talking about the TVs. Anyway, like I said, I really don't want to spend $2000 on a console and a TV...not worth it....and if the PS3 is moddable, I really want it to be soft modded like the xbox, install a software and it acts as a chip.
