Hi folks,
I spend most of the day figuring out what the problem is with my PS3, and now I wanted to ask you for advice. I would be very grateful if somebody has any suggestions, ideas, whatsoever... The big Fifa 14 tournament is in 4 days, but my console doesn't work :-(
Here is the problem: Last week, the BluRay drive stopped working. Specifically, no disc was spinning anymore. BluRay, DVD, you name it. No sign of activity, no message that a disc is being read, the only recognizable sound sounds like a failed attempt to move or more generally do something, it kind of sounds like a short tick. So I did some research and identified the (old) laser to be the most likely component that causes the behavior.
I replaced the old laser with an identical new one, and after a few initial problems I put the drive together correctly. To the very best of my knowledge, I connected everything, put all the pieces where they belong, everything looks fine. The drive inserts and ejects discs perfectly, with no weird sounds whatsoever.
However, it still doesn't work, same symptoms as above. I also noticed that the new laser (probabaly still) shows no sign of activity, no light (neither blue nor red nor anything). When I turn the PS3 on with the BluRay drive open, I read there should be the light of the laser. In my case, nothing. If I do an emergency reject (hold the eject button for 1 seconds or so), the laser moves forth and the drive attempts to eject the disc, so it seems to be connected properly.
Did I buy a faulty new laser? Any other ideas what it might be? Maybe even the power connector? But then I guess inserting and ejecting would not work, right?
ANY ideas are appreciated, I can also send a video with the sound if you guys wish...
Thanks,
Christian
