OK i took into account what you guys said.
Obviously you know more about pc's than i do,
but while on Ebay i found the following package:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-QUAD-CORE-Q6...1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core-2-Quad-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Im not keen on the ram or stock cooler,
& dont know much about the motherboard.
Whats best Dual or Quad cos i keep hearing different things?
What do you guys think?
Cheers

Doug,
I did a quick search and found the Core 2 Quad 6600 and ASUS P5N32-SLi for about £270 including VAT. The deal you're looking at is £250 with shipping but does that include VAT?? I don't know how it works in the UK, but if you buy stuff in the same state in the US you have to pay sales tax. ;)

PLUS if you buy from a "trusted" vendor you get warranties and such. something to think about. ;)

dougal79,
I can tell you this much! Avoid the no name MB! It's a piece of junk! Any MB that has only two memory slots is a real cheepie! The one with the Asus MB is the better of the two by far!

Mystery solved! It's a cheap $50 BioStar MB!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138089

I don't even use something that cheap for business machines that aren't overclocked. You would be very disappointed with that one!

Best Regards,
Russ

Russ, while we are on the AMD subject, check this out. The 9600 Black Edition can't beat the Q6600(stock speed) while the AMD is at 2.7 Ghz(max overclock). The Q6600 can manage a 3.6Ghz overclock easily though...

Originally posted by Toms Hardware:
In the end, we can't really recommend AMD's Phenom 9600 Black Edition, since the CPU draws more power than Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6600 while costing the same, offering less overclocking headroom, and thus providing lower performance overall.

The bottom line is that the Phenom 9600 Black Edition offers bad value for money.

Think ill go with the Quad Q6600 & ASUS P5N32-E SLI.
Ill also get the ram & hard drive sammorris suggested.
Then in a month or 2 ill get the psu greensman suggested,
along with everything else i'll need.

Its about time i upgraded to a decent pc :D

@ no mate, they charge something like 17.5% vat.
Think ill get them seperately from scan instead.

Cheers again

What kind of PSU do you have? I wouldn't risk good parts on a not so good PSU.

cincyrob,
Hey man you better get hopping. There's almost no e8400s available anywhere.
http://www.ncixus.com/products/27784/BX80570E8400/Intel/

Best I could come up with searching the net! Intel doesn't seem to be able to make enough as a lot of places say not available from the manufacturer at the present time. I confirmed they have 10 at one location and >10 at another!

Russ

The VX-550 is nice, but the HX-520 is better as it is modular.

Just found out about the E8200 - same specs as the E6750 but has 6mb of level 2 Cache instead of 4. If I can find one actually available I might get that instead - its been slightly cheaper on sites that have priced it.

I found this thanks to sammy. NICE link sam. ;) link to HX-520 vs. VX550 (conclusion)

You can read the entire test but the conclusion does it justice. ;) Like they said either p/s is good it basically depends on what you want. ;)

are you planning to go SLI. if not, intel boards, (either the x38 or p35) offer a much better value for more OCablitiy.

you couild go for the p35 P5K Premium Wifi board form ASUS, or the P5E for the x38 chipset.

also wait a bit, as the Q6600 is mroe thana year old tech, and the new yorkfeild quads are coming.

Have decided to get the arctic freezer 7 to go with my build simply because ebay emailed me today saying "you havent shopped with us for a while" (its been less than a month since I bought Halo 3 from there lol) "so have a tenner to spend on anything".

The 7 pro was £18 quid delivered - so cost me only 8 quid after the ebay coupon :)

edit - Nice case apart from the door ;)

Looks like i may have a good business idea.

How does the best quality sata cables made from the best quality raw materials that utilise 100% customer satisfaction and are bendy, retractable and are available in many different colours/varieties and are so good every manufacture of motherboards(or whatever) will stock them with their product?

Much better no door lol

These drives would probably be better for the money:-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145215
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

I got the second one for Christmas - cant fault it really - runs in my crap rig at only 32C and was filled within a month forcing me to get another external drive lol.

However if you only want 320g try this one:-

Shaffaaf: THey have indeed, however, suspicions in the past showed that some Ultra units are the same as Rosewills. With a company with such ludicrously varying build quality, would you trust them>?
Greensman: Gross man, just gross.
Rob: <frowns> honestly guys, what did I do to deserve this? :)

Pepp: A lot of people here frown on Deskstars, don't know why. I've had great success with the WD5000AAKS (in both 00TM and 65TM variants) so I can heartily recommend them.

Nice 400 Watt PS! LOL!! Cheap, but Expensive! ROFL!! Wonder how many months TigerDirect will take to remove the "SLI Ready" in their ads for them? Then again, they'll just blame Ultra, who will then blame Wintech! LOL!!

I have a question for you Sam. When your P5N-E was going bad, what sort of error messages were you getting when it would BSOD? Gina's is getting BSODs with alarming regularity. She says it can sit for days running with no problems, and she'll sit down and go to open a program, and as soon as she clicks the mouse, Instant Blue Screen. No temperature or voltage issues. It will run Orthos for hours with seemingly no problem. No errors with Memtest, and it never fails in the middle of her doing work. Most of her work is Court Testimony Transcriptions, so there's no real load on anything. All the components are good quality. The Error message she gets a lot is IRQ not equal to or less than something. I can't remember exactly what she said, but she looked up the two error messages she gets and they seem to be memory related. She put her old 1GB memory back in it, which she never had any problems with and it does the same thing. Any input you might have, would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Russ

Thats why I only linked to one as it was a similar price and the one at Wallys wasnt named. The two WD drives are fantastic quality though and well worth the money. Probably best bang for buck at the moment.
