I've been trying to create some vcd's on my laptop using a demo version of nero 6. Whenever I burn to cd, i keep getting a write error. I have been using Imation 12x cd-r's, and have tried burning at different speeds (4x, 8x, 24x). I have also tried to write a data cd and was also unsuccessful. I saved copies of the writing logs if you would like me to post them.

- DMA needs to be ON. fix it via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

Free physical memory: 58MB (59512kB)
Memory in use : 88 %
- OMG where's all that memory gone. you HAVE to free up memory prior to burns, your hard dfisc will be 'swapping', and interfering with the burn

the thing with CD's is most CD's out there seems to work ok as cd burning is well established (unlike dvd burning in my opinion). as i say, fix everything else, if you still have trouble then try some other media. i shopped around last time i bought some CD's (i usually buy any old thing when it comes to CD's), but this time i found Verbatim Pastel, tubs of 50 for the same price as cheapo discs.

firmware for most things, is fraught with danger, however it is necessary. it's what teaches your burner about media/newer media/burn speeds. 3 golden rules with firmware, make sure you read the instructions, do not reset the pc whilst it's updating the firmware, and do not power off the computer while it's updating.
for now you could just buy some decent media. but you are still going to bump into problems later if you keep putting off the firmware..
