How long do you think the PS3's lifespan will be?

Well, the PS2 has been around for over 5 years now (I think), and it still has probably another year to go. I was just thinking about how long the PS3 will last until new consoles are made, and I was guessing atleast 7-8 years, possibly more. I'm 18 now and could still be playing PS3 when I'm 26. That's a huge difference. Haha, it just seems very strange to think about. Time flew by when I was younger. It definitely doesn't feel like current generation systems have been around as long as they have. How long do you think the next generation systems will last?

I think you might be right. I'm thinking anywhere between 5 & 8 years. No more. I believe the gaming industry will be utilizing new processors (i.e. AMD64) towards gaming in the future and that the NEXT, NEXT Generation will be more interactive play. Remember the rogot are back in the day with Nintendo and playing "Mike Tyson's Punch Out"? I think gaming will be hevily along those lines.

probably 2 to 3 years if you go by the v9 poxy ps2 lasers that die on you suddenly ........lol

ok the ps3 life span will be 15-20 year ,yo might think im crazy but blu ray disc are goin 2 be more popular later in the year most likely we will see movies being dl or hd in the next 5 years but the ps3 will mostly be used for blu ray watching in 15 years,(finally my sig wrks)

Well, that may be true, but there will be blu-ray stand alone players coming out, and the generation of consoles after ps3/xbox360/n-revolution could have blu ray capabilities as well. I meant basically how long will it games continue to be developed for it until new consoles are made?

I think blu ray player will be very expencive , probably like 200 when they come out , but then you can spend an extra 200 and make your kid happy with the ps3..

I dont know if the quality is gonna be like the PS2 ten not for long. My PS2 laser only worked for 6 months then....

I think once the 360 is available the PS2 will be mostly dead. Sony really needs to get their PS3 on the market before the 360 gets too strong.

ps2 games will still sell when the 360 comes out, i think the graphics will be a little better but in a month or so xbox will kick major @ss

i think the graphics on the ps3 are gonna kill the 360's but i have no idea how long these new consoles are gonna last. i mean i got a playstation when it came out and i was like 9 or 10 years old and now im 16 so im wondering how far theyre gonna go with these consoles? like ps10? or x-box1080? its crazy to think about

yeah the blu-ray is a big factor in the ps3 life spam,,but i must say remenber when ps2 was realesed back in 2000 the psx didnt died there ,besides i still remenber when i saw a guy buy a psone at walmart i think it was last year ago ,so my thought would be ps3 with the blu-ray and things will last longer than ps2 ,thought i can see people buying the ps2 for like 89 or what ever 3 or 4 years from now , but then again tech avances super turbo fast so who knows ??

the ps2 possibly lasts for 8 months or so after the released of ps3. But, most the games are possibly suckie games like madden, kids, or non-populars kind.

Come on now.. The system is not even out yet and you guys are already thinking when his life span will end !!?? As far as I'm concern, the lifespan of a game console will end at the very moment when I'll feel that I don't want to play it anymore.

Here! Here! I am still playing my NES, SNES, and N64. Why? Because they are still great fun! There is nothing quite like finally getting 100 superjumps in Super Mario RPG, or flying along with the princess playing mario bros 2 (what were they smoking) Old games never die... at least untill the EEPROM gets corrupted. ;)

My ps2 had no problems and i got it since it came out, it hikn it will be 5 years now.=D think ps3 will be likely the same but who cares, my snes stil works and so does my sega genises thing, same w. my n64, all perfectly. I cant imagine anby graphics better than the next gen concols. I still think that Ps2 wil stil be in market till its next concol omes out because of all the great games comming out for it, exampel final fantasy 12...oo i cant w8

if the xbox 360 or the revoltion takes japan and sells good in america i give it 1 year before they change its look and 3-4 yrs maybe 5 until sony tries to rush a system that will not be that great. if it does sell good in japan it will stay for 5-7 yrs. but seriously japan will make or break what system does good this next gen. unless one of the systems does super super well in amrerica and europe

M$ wont change the Xbox 360's look. They're not like Sony that makes two models of every system instead of working on their next gen system. There was no need for Sony to make the PS2 slim, even though it is cool. It was just a marketing ploy to try and compete when the 360 comes out.
