Yeah you are good until Sony starts people to use a firmware newer than 2.0. Even then the UMD launcher might still work.

you're all n00bs. all pansies. Just get UMD Emulator or some other ISO runner with firmware emulation support, and you can play GTA on 1.5!!!
I CAN PLAY CODED ARMS ON MY 1.50 PSP!!! And it requires 2.00!!!
Just use UMD EMu or Firmware Faker!
I was told to change my sig so I did this.

u can still fake the firmware dude. I'm runnin madden 2k6 (my ripped iso)on 1.5 and that requires 1.52. The firmware faker is so if u have the real umd u can override it.

OK, there is an earlier post about this. At this moment there is NO way to play Liberty City on a psp with version 1.5. The problem isn't really with the version, it's an issue with the contents of the game itself. Aparently the game contains video and audio files using the AVS codec. This codec comes with versions 2.0 and up, but isn't on older firmware versions. I know people are working on a way around this, but for now the only way to play the game is to have version 2.0 installed, then downgrade back to 1.5 to play homebrew. Oh and libenja, don't be such an ass. Everyone is a noob at some point, so don't be a pain when someone asks a question.

It looks like anyone who doesn't have 2.0 on higher won't be playing GTA:LC anytime soon. Appartently it requires codecs that only 2.0 or higher has so current loaders don't work. I'm curiously how long before a work around. I'm betting/hoping less than a couple of weeks.

wow this board is moving fast...lol...thanks for the intel guys...will upgrade to 2.0 for now and down grade when work around available.
For those thinking of going to 2.0 do not upgrade from the disk. I heard that it is 2.0 with the security of 2.1...perhaps not true but play it safe and get 2.0 from the net somewhere. If anyone can correct or confirm this rumor it would be appreciated.
thanks

Good point aniko. I've also heard reports of people having trouble when updating from the disk. I don't have the game yet to try this though, so this is all speculation.

Just an update...not able to upgrade from 1.5. I had previously downgraded from 2.0 to 1.5...when I attempt to go back up to 2.0 the update screen has no words on it just an X and an O at the bottom of the screen. I have to pull the battery to get out of it. Working to get it fixed...I fear that I might be stuck at 1.5...I will keep you posted as I progress...post any ideas...thanks

Instead of someone creating a tool to delete the movies in GTA:LC to make it playable on V1.5, could someone not just locate them all and then use some sought of conversion software, mabye PSP Video 9 to re-encode them.

THE codec thing makes perfect sense, after all the upgrade does have it so they try to strongarm you as an additional security measure. there are 2 possible ways this could be fixed. 1) re-encode the cutscenes and such so they are on a compatable format with the 1.5 software, 2) is there any way to isolate the codecs, and make them run as a seperate utility? these are the only things that seem logical to me. maybe even patch this utility directly to the iso, so both run at te same time? just food for thought. If i knew how to write code, i would be able to determine if either solution would indeed work.

yea, I'm really hoping that some kind of patching utility will come out. Even if they could rip out all of the music and movies. I'd be fine with that. I've never actually played GTa for the story anyway. I'm just glad I didn't go out and buy it yesterday like I was planning on doing.

I don't believe it is as easy as re-encoding the movies to MP4 (1.5 format). Even if you do get them converted, the game will still call the original file name, so you would then have to modify the game itself to point to the re-encoded files.
