Good Day,
Am I Right by saying the following gives the best DVD quality output to watch on a stand alone DVD Player?
1st Place: DVD Decrypter + CCE
2nd Place: CloneDVD + ANYDVD
3rd Place: DVD Shrink
My question is: Where would I place DVDCopy 4 & Roxio Disc Copier (From Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5)in that list ?
Regards,
Dan

There really isnt a standard of what programs are best. It really all depends on the usser and what they like to use.
I myself use DVD Decrypter and Nero Recode 2. To say my setup is better then others is a waste of time. Cause eveyone has thier own opionion and mine is Roxio sucks lol. But hey others might like it. So you really wont get a stright up answer cause everyone is diffrent.

larrylje is right on this one. This topic has been argued many times before and no real winners ever arise since it boils down to user preference.
Example: I'd put shrink above clondDVD any day and while most would put Intervideo DVDCopy3 right under Rebuilder/CCE, I'd put it last since my own personal experience with the program has been nothing but poor.
So, to sum it all up: The only one in that list that you might get everyone to agree on is the Rebuilder/CCE combo at the top. But that's apples VS oranges since CCE is an endoder while the rest are transcoders.

Got to agree with you I put Clone ahead of Intervideo as it gave my computer a big headache. And there is no comparison with RB/CCE it is the best of the lot. But as stated by all it is user preference and what they see.

in order of best quality.
Rebuilder/HC(free and same OR sometimes better than CCE)/copytodvd
DVD2one/copytodvd in main movie only(great)not the entire movie with this one because appies too much compression on extras and other stuff.
shrink/decrypter. very nice.
intervideo=problems
clonedvd=never use it.
Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

There are too many variables and depends on the eye of the beholder and how much you want to spend. I rip all dvd's with DVD Decrypter and AnyDVD in the background. Then edit all ripped folders with dvdremake pro. I use Nero 6 to burn. Here's the order I would list encoders/transcoders for video quality.
Dvd-rb/cce or hc encoder (cce is the faster of the two)
Intervideo dvdcopy 3/4
Slysoft CloneDVD 2
Nero recode 2
Dvd shrink
Like I said it depends on how much you want one program to do and how much you want to spend. Since I edit with dvdremake, I don't care about reauthoring and editing features built into each program. CloneDVD 2 is probably the best of the bunch for editing features and video quality but the quality is still not as good as dvd-rb/cce or dvdcopy 3 but like I said it surpasses them in editing features. Considering money spent, DVD Shrink is the king.

My vote goes like this: CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD & Nero Recode 2 with AnyDVD. Those are the top 2 for me. CloneDVD 2 seems to give the best control, best quality back-up and is easy & fast. Recode 2 runs a close 2nd. Recode doesn't remember the settings as well as CloneDVD 2. CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD are tough to beat! Since they are "sort of" made for each other, so to speak, seems likely they should work so well with each other! DVD Shrink works very well for Free!

You are right Clone and AnyDVD are user friendly, and the editing capabilities are a big plus. Intervideo may produce better quality but it re-authoring is bad, also Shrink makes you loose the menu.

I notice several posts saying they like DVD Fab. I've used the trial of this for a while and did like the interface but it never once burned a disc that would play without breakup on either a DVD player or PC drive. I havn't had this problem with other apps what gives?

I believe we can agree that the top spot has to go to Rebuilder Pro (v1.03)/CCE Basic ($) or HC by Hanks (free). I would place CloneDVD 2 and Recode 2 the same as I have compared on my system two movies burned with the two programs and I could not tell a significant difference that made me lose confidence in either, except I use them a lot and enjoy both interfaces. I still like Intercopy 3 and the quality is awe-some...I do not believe I have had some of the same issues as many of you have, but when I recommend programs it is at the bottom because I do not want to advise people on Copy 3 or 4 and then they pruchase and begin having problems...for me it works but I have not upgraded to 4 and most likely will not until Intervideo addresses the issues and deliever a product that can compete with the others. I do have a question to anyone using CloneDvd2... Does it book type +R media...I like the speed adjustability, but having it's own burn engine does it booktype?

i have to say hc has gotten my attention here latley. ive been using it alot the past few weeks and i cant tell the difference between hc and CCE, ive heard people say hc is slower but i cant tell because im asleep when i use hc and CCE. thats the best time to do a movie, that way no ones trying to use the pc. i get up in the morning and go to Nero and everything is done by the time me and the kids get home. so i guess my vote goes to rb/cce/hc.

MovieDud,
Depending on what make and model dvdrw drive you have, you may be able to set booktype to dvd-rom on dvd+r/rw media in the drives eeprom useing a booktype utility like lite-on, plextor, and benq have. Then all your burns will be dvd-rom regardless of the burn engine or burn utility used. If you drive is not capable of this you might want to consider buying one that does (benq DW1640 for example) since the prices are so low now. I think that benq can be had for under $40 now.

@Mort81, thanks for the reply and I have ask about my two drives (Sony DRX-800UL External and Nec 3540a) I can set the Sony each time, but the Nec has the latest FW update and now I'm looking at the Modified by Liggy and Dee to book type...which requires using Bin GUI to actually handle the change...I'm just confused on which hack I should use. Any help would be appreciated as I'm trying to learn as I do this. The Sony is a rebadged Lite-on and it can book type which Nero keeps it that way all the time, when I use decrypter or ImgBurn I don't have to change that, now when I use NEC it will not until I use the modified FW. It does booktype +DL which is great but I use a lot of +R media from Sony and FuJi (Both made in Japan and code as TY's).
Can you help me?

@gamename, I'm with as I too like the Batch feature and so I'll prepare three jobs and they will be done easily by morning. I also mix it up with HC by Hanks...great free encoder.

MovieDud,
I don't have a NEC drive so can't be of too much help there. You will need a f/w flash to make it capable of bitsetting. Nec doesn't have a booktype utility so you will need some other utility such as Nero, DVD Decrypter, or dvdinfopro to bitset. I don't know if these utilities will store the booktype setting in the drives eeprom or if you will need to reset it each time before a burn. My personal preferance for your sony would be to use the lite-on booktype utility.

The 108 is not capable. I think the 110 can be made capable with a flash with the buffalo f/w although I'm not 100% sure. I know the buffalo f/w will work on the 109. I don't have any pioneer drives so that's all I can tell ya. I never bought any pioneer drives because up untill just recently none of them were capable of bitsetting and those that will require a flash with hacked f/w.

Thanks for the info.
When you say "bitsetting" do you mean "Bootyping" or is that 2 different thing ?
