hello creaky thats a good temp cut. hey i saw your pic which one is your case the one lower part or the one below de lg drive..
hey!! dreamcast console the best ever jejejeje...

ok look if you are planing to keep your stock cooler or the igloo 2421 which i think cool less than amd stock fan that has a bigger heat aluminun sink with a cooper center(i highly recommend amd stock)

try since you are reseating your cpu use some artic silver 5 thermalgrease that can help you cut extra 5-7Cº.

Ahh you have a Gigabyte board. You have to flip the switches on your motherboard. There is one by the heatsink on the motherboard and then one next to the cpu. You have to get those numbers correct because one is for frequency and one is for the multiplier, which is why i DISPISE overclocking a gigabyte board. too much effort :). Then you get the numbers going in bios. I have built a gaming computer with a gigabyte board once and overclocked it a little bit. I just can't remember how the bios looks otherwise i'd tell you where to go for it. Also, you need good cooling. My man XP is good at this: GET THE VOLCANO 12 hehehe. It's an awesome cooler for the price. You should be fine after that.

they're my 2 usb enclosures. My pc has limited airflow so i was very pleased with the results i got but couldn't leave it there.

I'd since moved the ys-tech (3pin) from being the exhaust fan, onto the igloo heatsink. This worked only as long as i used another ys-tech as an exhaust. Trouble was this one was only a 4pin so full pelt and noisy. So now i've put the igloo's original fan as the case fan, nice and quiet, but crap!, i'm back to the temps i had in the beginning. So..... have ordered another ys-tech 3pin for the exhaust fan and am looking for a new (copper) cooler now and some artic 5.

My old pc in a Supermicro SC-750A case, had 12 or 14 fans, it was like a 747 taking off. I haven't got room on my boat or tolerance of noise now though so i use it as ballast at back of boat :)

brapuss. if noise is an issue then i wont recommend our big, effective, and noisy volcano 12 which is one of the best coolers ever
Quote:
´´if is noisy it means is working.. kolanjoku.
ok if you want a quiet fan here are some:

http://www.xoxide.com/zacncpuco1.html

zalman faN are well known for quiet cooling.. for this fan make sure your mobo has four holes around your socket for the retention brackets with this 700gr monster..

http://www.xoxide.com/zalman-7000b-cu-cpu-cooler.html

http://www.xoxide.com/pipe101.html

this heat sink is 100% pure copper you can use the fan of your choice quiet ones on 80mm,90mm sizes.

http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835114011

this one is really cool a good cooler is made of cooper

hope i help
-------------------------------------------------------------------
creaky for you if loud and noisy is a good price to pay for cooling jejejeje.

ill recommende the volcano 12...if quiet zalman fan are great..

cheers Dr xp, but volcano 12 ...... nah!.
far too loud for me. i spent first 9yrs of my career working in a computer room that made a volcano 12 sound like a distant fart!. these days i leave my pc on only when i'm around (as it's a super hot AMD chip plus i live afloat) plus i just don't want the background noise !

i plumpled for a Coolermaster Dream 7 blah cooler. Not convinced it'll do much better than the igloo apart from it's all copper. if the supplied fan is crap i will just bolt the new ys-tech fan on top, with the existing 4yr old ys-tech (3pin) as an exhaust fan. Job done as will be cooler than it was, and cool enough to have gained enough to be able to leave the pc on longer..

edit- everywhere seems to be out of stock of the dream 7. i tried tne new 3pin ys-tech as an exhaust fan - running too quietly, and temps are crap again. plugged in a 3pin to 4pin adapter and now fan is going full pelt and i'm all cool again.. a tad noiser but fine.

Great thread Dr xp, it's certainly going better and longer than the dvd threads i usually come here to read/participate in....

hi guys , well it looks like i have my 6600gt working properly now.

so my next question is- i have an athlon xp barton 2800, i can not change the multiplier with the switches on my M/B, so im guessing that my cpu is locked.

so all i can do is increase the FSB.

i have had it up to 180Mhz (360Mhz) and got 58 degrees on prime95 after about 25 mins, is this ok to run the cpu at this ??

or should i wait till i get a decent cooler? im running stock HSF with arctsilv 5.

my cpu used to idle at 54 and go up to 60-62 degrees with the crappy old thermal pad, and i had no probs with it then.

what do u guys rekon?

barton!!! are god damn! lock (buaaahh) sorry for that.

the only thing you can do is increase the fsb, vcore. when overclock cpu gets hotter!! as you already know.

58cº i high not dangerous remember that you are using stock cooler.
try to hold it there until you get a nice cooler (remember to choose one made out of 100% copper).

if you want we can make sugestions!!!

from my post on page24 -
Quote:
Ambient - 27C
CPU Idle - 59C
CPU working - 68C (ie dvd ripping or Seti@home).
- i can't beat this so far; i have been pondering the coolermaster vortex dream 7 cooler, and actually picked one up in pc world couple days ago, but it's twice as heavy as my current cooler - should be ok weightwise, but i put it back. However my case is so small i don't think changing the cooler will gain me much due to limited airflow. Either way i am still very impressed with the temp saving i've made so far and am more comfortable with the idle temp of 59 to 61 that i get. (i know the danger threshold is 85C btw). I s'pose i could buy the dream 7 and try it; if it doesn't improve things i s'pose i could take it back saying it was far too big for my case.

Trust me if all u want to do is make it run cool, just replace the thermal compound. The AMD stock HSF aint that bad( better than some of the aftermarket HFS out there)

i often read that the stock coolers are better. trust me to have bought an oem cpu with no cooler. you're most likely right, but i hate messing with these amd sockets, am scared to break something. saying that my bruv has 2machines with P4s with heatsinks the size of double whoppers and i hate those too. I guess i'll go pc world on way home and buy the dream 7, and i'll be brave !

NOW MY case is stand position i moved and belive me cpu socket is really hard material it wont fell off.

just be careful when installing hsf not to put a lot of pressure on your chip remeber that amd cpus have the core xpose!!

the only dream 7 cooler i can find isn't for the 462 socket so i'm gonna stick with my igloo cooler. not even gonna take cooler off to replace thermal pad with top quality paste as i'm happy with the temp's i'm getting. However i'm still gonna follow this thread as it's very interesting :)

well, as u say that cooler is huge. Thats probaly why i wont get one. im looking for something thats reasonably quiet, as this PC is in my lounge room (hooked up to my 116cm plasma mmmmmmmm nice)

and also the place i buy my pc parts from doesnt sell the volcano 12 :(

so i need something with decent cooling but reasonably quiet.

i cant use any zalman coolers cause i dont have holes in my mother board and my psu sits near my cpu socket.

any suggestions will be appriciated.

thanks guys
