Hi there Rach2k
Seems like it's time for you to start a new thread specifically for the 400 series. This forum was set up for Sharp 300/350's and all this new jargon on Electronic Program Guides (EPG)etc is way beyond the "ken" of us old hands using last years model. Maybe there will be a 400 series user out there who has a look at us "old fogies" and who is able to answer your queries, maybe you'll become the "expert" for the 480 and we'll come to you for advice when we finally upgrade but at the moment I think you'll be lucky to get an answer to your query on this site. all the best Happy Xmas, Silver64

Hello,

Having a problem with the DV-HR300. Occasionally, the last 5 or 6 seconds of a recording seem to be faulty. When I'm in the "Erase Scene" option, and I try to remove the end of a file, the unit either freezes or the edit has no effect.

It seems to be the last 5 or 6 seconds of a recording that cannot be deleted. Does anyone else have this problem, or a solution?

Thanks.

To Dillenger

Thanks for the reply. I tried registering the new HDD with the Sharp 300 but now whent the HDD is getting full it refuses to stop recording! I have to power off, which leads to mangled/invalid recordings.

There are still instances where recordings get corrupted - at some stage they stop or suddenly get audio from another recording and vision freezes.

I may replace the 80G drive if this goes on. I have updated the firmware... may check to see if there are further updates, but I doubt it.

Cheers

Hi micky345,
The 300 needs it to be a certain length in order to be able to edit the end or the beginning out of any recording made. Never timed how long it needs to be, but I can tell you it's quite normal for this particular unit.

Hi all. I've been getting the feeling that this discussion has outgrown its home. The forum can't handle threaded replies, which makes it hard to follow a topic.

I don't know whether you're interested or not, but I have created a Sharp forum on my domain to discuss the DV-HR300 and other Sharp models. I've copied this entire thread to the new forum for reference.

It may make discussion easier. Have a visit, if you like - the URL is http://nylon.net/bb/. If you'd rather stay here at afterdawn, that's fine. Hooroo.

Hi Mark ....very nice site. It does help to have it condensed a bit huh.
Thanks for sharing it. Yep my unit is still going strong. Although nowadays I've been using it more as a DVR for TV programs. But I still love this machine, a bit fussy about the disc's it will finalize. It seems to prefer the slower speeds over the higher speed discs.

cheers, MannyCAM

Hi Manny
Happy New Year! Good to hear your 300 is still going strong (like mine). I know you never needed or wanted to make your Sharp multi-region. Being in the U.S, why would you. However the attraction for UK and other countries is that we can buy cheaper and watch releases much earlier by purchasing U.S. or Canadian discs via the Internet.
I made my Sharp multi-region shortly after got the hack off this forum. Sadly the original CD's I downloaded to enable the MR hack I've lost and I am wondering if any Forum member has copies or has a link through to the website that contained the details. I would like to help a fellow Sharp 300H user go multi-region but I can't without the firmware.
Can anyone help. Many thanks Silver64

Hi ho, Silver64,

I'll be only too happy to oblige with discs for the multi-region hack, but I wonder if you could do me a favour at the same time.

As I mentioned in a posting on 29th Nov, the DVD recorder on my beloved Sharp packed up 2 months after my guarantee expired and, being reluctant to fork out 280 quid for repairs, I've replaced it with a cheap machine for recording purposes. I've still got a fantastic video recorder, of course, but that's all it is now.

Trouble is, I've got unfinalised dvds that are now unreadable by either my Sharp OR the new LiteOn
machine. Any chance of finalising them for me? It may not work, but I'd certainly like to give it a try. I've been meaning to post about this for the last month!!

Let me know, and I'll send you those hacks, no matter what your response is.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Nylonnet (Mark) Thanks for posting that MR link. I made my 300H Multi-region a long time ago when the MR patch was first posted by EA5E from Australia. Target10 ( Nigel) you could try the link as above. Best of luck

Hello Silver64,

I've always assumed that your nom-de-plume came about because you're a silver-surfer who happened to be 64 when assuming your alter-ego. Could be wrong, of course...

Pretty much the same in my case. On retirement, I officially became an "old fart", and "Petomane" ( a nice compression of my actual name) was born. I won't tell you what my super-hero special powers are - suffice to say I can clear a large room in 3 seconds flat...

Thanks for the message, which I'll respond to when I've podted this.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter
You got it right in one! "Silver 64" (that was a year ago but I can't be bothered changing). Happily retired and enjoying my PC and my Sharp. I just hope I'll still be around when Blu-ray and HD-DV comes along and Sharp joins that scene. I'm right into "gadgets" and new technology and I must say again that DVD HDD recording has been a mega leap from VHS.I suppose a larger Hard Drive would be an advantage on my Sharp but I find that having only 80 Gig means I must either watch the program I have recorded or burn it to disc. The latest Sharp has 250 Gb but if I had that much space I think I would end up never watching anything.
I have transferred my camcorder tapes to DVD using the Sharp also old VHS family videos and have found it ideal and so much easier than using my PC for the same job.
I'll be happy to try and finalise those discs you have a problem with and keep my fingers crossed that it'll work via my 300.
Cheers Silver64

Hi all

Silver, I've just downloaded those files, transferred them to disc & tried the installation.

Guess what? I still get error message 20E rather than succesful 208.

(the second disc does change from 300 to 307)

Fiddlesticks!!

edit: the manual says it's a 350H. Does this make a difference.?

Nigel

Tempting though it sounds, Silver, there's one draw-back with a large Hard Drive where the Sharp is concerned.

Some problems can only be resolved by re-initializing the HDD, and that means a heck of a lot of backing up needs doing. I've had to do it twice to date, and it can be a major operation. Can you imagine trying to dub 250 gigs-worth of films before you can actually do that!! (If the demned DVD recorder actually WORKS, he moaned)

Peter

Target 10, This doesn't seems to be an uncommon problem! It shouldn't be a problem being a 350H. The original hack was posted for a 350 and mine is a 300H. Another member is going to send me the Hack which I'll pass on when received

Peter ( Petomane) I understand what you say about the the larger HDD.
Can't say I've had a problem initializing the Hard drive but like a PC it's always a good idea to "re-format" the hard drive on a regular basis to clean it up. As I've said; having only 80 GByte HDD disciplines one to erase old recordngs to the bin or transfer to DVD.
I've often wondered if other brands of DVD recorders have had similar "problems". "Touch wood" I haven't had any problems with my Sharp but one should appreciate DVD recording is a relatively new operation and one has only to appreciate how PC internal DVD recorders have gone from 2x to 16x and now dual layer in the past couple of years. Sad that you've had a major problem that meant you had to buy a rival brand. My mate has gone for a new Sony HXD710 but I'd be facing a problem as to what I would replace my trusty 300H with should it go on the blink
Best regards

Hi ho, Silver,

Your comments about gadgets and new technology certainly hit the spot, and by far one of the GREATEST benefits is "compression".

I recently bought the "X Files series 1" box-set for just £12.99 (when a new VHS film release will cost a few pounds more). The box-set is just over an inch thick (not much more than a video). If I bought the WHOLE kit'n'caboodle (9 series), the Videos would take up about 45 inches of shelf-space, while the DVD sets would only require 10. It's little wonder that video sales have plunged, and that you can pick up "X Files" Video box-sets on eBay for a pound!

Seems like you may have a similar problem to mickey345 as detailed above. Could it be the edit you are trying to do is from the hard drive of the Sharp when it's almost full of old recordings? It's always a good idea to occasionally intiialize the Hard Drive thus wiping everything and then starting off with a "Clean" hard dive. Like a PC the Sharp appreciates a "defrag" or an "initailize" as it's called on this unit.
Hope this helps

Hey all,
Any news on whether you could get the MR patch working again.
Does it matter if you burn it to cdr or does it have to be a dvd?
I am sure that is a stupid question, but hey...i'm new at this!
Thanks
