Your nero is kinda out dated, current version is 6.6.0.18.
Where did you go to update your f/w, sometimes the official sites don't work for me. Current f/w version is KY05. Your f/w is really old, several versions behind actually. So you might have to do it in steps, as in download KY03 then go on to KY05. Here is the latest version:

You shouldn't be multi-tasking while you burn, it'll throw the buffers off. So close all apps via task manager. Just leave the comp and go do something else.

This is a prob. If you don't finalize your disc they aren't going to play. You have it set at multisession, meaning to intend to write even more on the disc.

Try slowing down to about 4x and see if that helps.
I can't Sony couldn't help you w/ this, it's so simple. :)

I have the Sony DRU800a, has worked fine for me now for 5 months, never had a problem with it, Seems to like Ritek, Fuji TY's (MIJ) especially, use Nero 6.0, CloneDVD2, Any DVD.
Try uninstalling InCD which is a program that is part of Nero.
From the Sony website, did you disable DMA?
Quote: Download the DRU-800A/DRX-800UL firmware updater to your hard disk, unzip the file, and then perform the procedure below.
Important Note
When using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, log on to Windows as the computer administrator or as a user with administrator access privileges.
Before executing firmware update, uninstall any packet writing software, such as [DLA], [DirectCD], [B's CLiP] etc, from the PC.
If you are using the DRU-800A, disable [DMA setting] in Windows before executing firmware update. For details, refer to [Help and Support] in Windows.

You don't have INCD installed, so you don't have to worry about that. If yo did I would have let you known when I did your log.

I have the sony 800A as well and have tried everything even got a new drive from sony which didn't help. I uninstalled all the Nero software and tried to burn with clone dvd2 but still no luck. I have tried blank Sony-R and Verbatum-R with no luck. My Sony 500a burns without a problem so what gives?

Hmmmmm... sounds kinda strange indeed. My DRU 710A (BYX5) loves to burn every genuine Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (m.i.j) I throw in. Not even a "coasters" since the day I have it installed on my system.

Maybe a little off base, but how do you have the jumpers setup on your drive? Are you using a master and a slave combination or cable select? Which Firmware update? What type of system do you have, processor, memory, other installed CD/DVD writing software? Windows XP, Millenium, 98, which service packs installed? I've owned a Sony DRU-510 and a Sony DRU-800 and neither have ever given me any problems...

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 running XP SP2 and I have uninstalled all burning/writing software except CloneDVD2, MusicMatch and Windows Media Player. I have the latest KY05 ROM update on the 800A and have it set as the master and the 500A as the slave. Before I uninstalled the Nero software I ran the test to verify that the ASPI software was installed correctly. When I run the Sony burn test it fails and when I copy a disk with CloneDVD2 it writes for 3-4 minutes and then tells me the media is bad. I have tried Sony-R x8 and Verbatum -R and get the same result.

I have a Dell 4400, I am using the Cable select method for my Drives, don't know why, this is how it came from tha factory with a samsung DVD-ROM drive and a NEC CD-RW drive, upgraded to a SONY DRU-510A used the cable select method and it seemed to work. I will try resetting jumpers and see if it still works. will post later.

I originally had it set on cable select and Sony support told me it had to be set as master and slave...but it didn't help!

Works just as well, DRU-800 set as master, Samsung set as slave, the 800 is on top, at the end of the cable, the Samsung is at the center postion of the ribbon, I'm sure that you have your DMA enabled, as a next suggestion I would suggest reinstalling the Nero which came with the burner, leaving out the InCD program, trying that and if it still fails, post your Nero log but leave out your name and the serial number from the posting, one of the veterans here will be able to eyeball it and lead you towards a possible solution.

What speeds are you using? I have a lite-on and on TYs if I go under 6x I will get a failed burn. So what speed are you doing and run the disk under NEros DVD Speed tool.

my LG 4167B gives the logical block address error when i try to do 8x on top notch Verbatim or 'Verbatim Taiyo Yuden' media. 4x is always fine, and my LG 4163B does 4x and 8x effortlessly...
thought that would help you isolate your problem but you say you've tried all speeds......thinking....

I really can't think of anything at the moment, so maybe a log would help. Could you post your Nero log? It should be under Programfiles\Ahead\Nero\Nerohistory. If you can't find it or don't know how just search NeroHistory. I'll just need the very last section, or whatever section is was that failed. The logs are separated by this thing:
====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======
