Forgot to mention that the tuner thing is a common thing. Mine does the same thing. It only has a mono tuner. If you want a better TV recording use your VCR's stereo tuner through the back inputs instead.

Ok. Thanks for the tip. I will try that.
I did note that on playback I did not hear the static.

Hello,
I have recently purchased a DVDR04 and I am having difficulty receiving output from my computer via s-video. When the computer reboots, I can see the boot sequence and everything, but once I get to the login screen, the output is black. I am using an Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 on Win 2k Server OS.. Thanks for any help and suggestions!

I've had my ILO DVDR04 for about a week and was doing extensive transfer of DV tapes to DVD. It was working pretty well with maybe a 10% fail rate when suddenly it is failing 90% of the time. It almost always fails on the STOP key where it just keeps blinking and hangs. Once in a while I'll see an actual disk write error. Now this all happened about the time I ran out of my original CD-R's but I've now tried 6 (!) different brands including Memorex, Verbatim, Imation, Khypemedia, CompUSA and a couple I'm forgetting and seeing the same thing. Does this sound like infant mortality and time to exchange at Walmart? I'm beginning to think so. Also, I haven't seen anyone indicate if getting the newer 8x model (mine is the older 4x) helps in DVD compatibility - anyone know? Thanks!

I have a Question. Does it do comercial skip??.. my vcr records tv shows, then when its done, it rewinds, marks comercials, then stops at the end of the show for the next recording, or I turn it on, and it rewinds to the start. Does this do comercial skip?? that would be awsome..

No, nothing fancy like commercial skip. There is some ability to go in and add chapter markings but it would have to be a manual process....

could you set it to put a marker about every 2-4 minutes?
really wish they would program a comercial skip.

Yes, you can set the number of minutes you want to use for chaptering. And there is a commercial skip on your remote but it just skips forward a predetermined amount of time during playback I believe...

Just got the ILO-DVDR04 ($138 at WallyWorld). Works great out of the box. Was hoping to get the one with the 8X drive but got stuck with the 4X. I Did the Region/Macrovision/3HR hack perfectly. I am bumbed about the inability to write to media other than DvD+R and +RW. Be nice if there was firmware to change this. I noticed that some are saying that this unit is simular or the same as the Lite-On 5005. Lite-On makes them for Wally and calls them ILO? Is this true? Can we use the firmware from that unit to change the write capabilities? I was considering exchanging for the 5005, but I really like the look of this ILO unit better. Any thoughts?

Has anyone used the hacked firmware for the iLo DVDR4 on a Liteon 5101? The Hacker program listed by guitarman did not work on the latest frimware LNMA1030.D20 from liteon. Any info would be appreciated. Z.

I thought the twin to the DVDR04 was the 5001.

Wow!This is getting habit forming. Now I think I would like to get the Lite-On 5045. To bad its not sold locally. Best price online so far is $368 with shipping. CompUSA wants $465 to order it (ouch).

Hit setup. Then look at sn. Looks like
If yours end in B20x where that pix show G2BC(the x = a number or letter) it is 8x. On the dvdr04 it wouldnt matter as it only record in realtime anyway. The only way it would matter is for the hdd model for transfer from hdd to dvd.

You can set chapter marks from 5 to 30 min and press the next button and it will jump to the time you set.
