Use a little common sense when typing. I have to waste my time that can't be bought back trying to figure out where your sentences begin and end. SHIFT KEY to type CAPITAL letters. The period's located below and between the "L" and ":". The comma's located below and between the "K" and "L". You may also want to check out:

Quote: i have heard a lot of people say they have had trouble with x copy and i did too until i realised it was the burner and disc combo not the x copy if u have a liteon the liteon discs are very very good even with the plextor.a good really cheap disc to my surprise was the princo dvd record ,not the data ones ,just a bit of useless info 4 those who like experimenting .
yep pretty much useless info i'm wondering when this thread asked for opinions on burners and media everyone here likes experimenting but we all like helpful info not something that will lead us astray and i don't think you'll find many people to agree with you about xcopy
See what I mean, dude! Make heads/tails of that one!
Sorry for the cuttin', but if you take a little ribbing personally, you should go somewhere else than my thread because you're gonna get it here! It's all in fun. There's no reason to be ashamed of illiteracy! We're not laughing at you, We're laughing WITH you.

Hey I just found a much easier way to do this. Of course the program isn't free, but it is extremley easy.
Just use CloneDVD2..
You use the little scissors to split the movie and it keeps the menus on both disks. Works flawless I just did it on LOR Fellowship of the rings..

Ooopps, I missed that brilliant piece of factual information . . .
Quote: the liteon discs are very very good
I Looked and looked all over and I couldn't find Liteon discs listed anywhere.
Could someone somewhere put these super-duper discs on http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ so we can at least find out who makes them ?
Since our dispenser of so much knowledge has left us we'll have to rely upon real hard facts, OK ?
Come-on guys, someone out there must have one to be scanned . . .
We'll all be waiting ~

Hey mayo,
How DO you make those cool guides? They're awesome.
P.S. I didn't do a search to find out if there was a previous thread on that.

Mayo,
I just noticed something else that can be linked to this method. I came across a few of my original dvd9 disks that give you the option of playing the movie in widescreen or standard format. In these instances, even if the movie isn't really long, the compression level increases greatly because there are 2 main movie titles on the disk.
I really never paid any attention to it before because I usually never expand the main movie folder in dvd shrink. But when they put both versions on the same disk, there are two titles in the main movie folder.
Before I noticed this, I wondered why some movies needed to be more compressed than others that were the same length. Now I know why.
Before I ramble on and on, I'll get to the point I'm trying to make:
We have three options on how to author our movie using VOB blanker.
One option (if we want to keep both versions) is to use VOB blanker to split BOTH versions of the movie. But in doing so, we'll have to keep the menu active on both disks. If we don't, we won't have the option of which version we want to watch.
The second option we have is to totally blank out one or the other version (wide or normal) and fit that version to one disk. Then, if we want to keep the other version, we will have to go back and totally blank out the version we hadn't blanked out before and burn that version to another disk. Either way, we'll end up with 2 disks. And with the second option, we might end up with some compression.
I personally enjoy widescreen versions, so a third option (if we want zero compression) is to pick the version we want to keep, go into VOB blanker, totally blank out the version we want to get rid of, and use my method to split the version we want to keep.
Damn, that was a mouthful. Did I lose you in my scatterbrained explanation?

@sadsac,
Those guide are pretty easy actually. I just use MS PowerPoint and save as Jpeg then just insert them on the web page as pictures. :-)
Have you checked out my newest one on <Create 1:1 backup with CloneDVD2> I believe this is much simpler than your method and it retains fully functional menus on both disks :-) Of course the only draw back is it isn't free.

bbmayo,
That looks pretty simple. I used to download the trial version of clone-cd. It worked really well with music. I ditched that once I bought Nero though.
How much does clonedvd2 cost for the full version? How's the quality compared to DVD Shrink? I'm sure that with no compression, you wouldn't notice a difference, but if you compress a movie, how does that compare to the same compression levels of DVD Shrink?
One thing I like about DVD Shrink is that you can re-enable the menu buttons. What I mean is, you don't have to wait for all the splash screens. You can just hit the "next" button to bypass them. I guess they want to force you to read the warning screens.
Can you do this with Clonedvd2?
Also, if it just as easy with Clonedvd2 to edit out the various audio and subtitle streams?

One other thing.....if you use DVD Decrypter, can't you use clonedvd2 without having to use AnyDVD?

Sadsac,
CloneDVD2 IMO is better quality wise than DVD Shrink by far. It doesnt have every feature of Shrink though I do like the flexibility of Shrink :-) However it does do a lot once you play around with it. You can select what audio, menus, and extras you want to keep or get rid of. It will only allow you to cut out chapters and not any specific spot like Shrink does with its star/end frame button. It does let you do more than most people think you just have to play around with it :-) It is extremly fast compared to anything else I have used too. Yes you can use Decrypter instead of AnyDVD if you want, but you can buy both AnyDVD and CDVD2 together and save so I paid 59$ I think you can get just CDVD2 for 39$ so you save nearly 20$ if you get them both together. They are two programs that are worth every penny :-) I don't think I have touched Decrypter in a long time :-) I would say to any one here to go ahead and download the trial version and give it a try. It can't hurt and you may really like it. :-)
By the way the best proggy I have found during all my playing around for pure quality backed up DVD is DVDCopy3 from InterVideo. That program produces some very high quality back-up's when a lot of compression is needed. It's bigest flaw is not many options and the price 79$.. It does however produce awesome quality back-up's :-)

Just split The Patriot dvd using bbmayo Clone DVD quide, it worked flawlessly, it was almost too easy. The quality and the sound were great. It was well worth the $20.00 on top of the Any DVD price for these programs.

Hi sadsac, such a great tutorial you provided! I follow your instructions and can make perfect splitted DVD copies. Not very easy for me since I'm a newbie, have to learn all the terminologies and such, but I get along well. Thank you! However, I have another problem and hope you can help me out. I have a DVD that has a menu system all messed up, the buttons don't function correctly, subtitle streams are not named and linked properly, so on. I tried to use pgcEdit to make them work, but only got limited results. It's so difficult to find out what value I have to change to make those buttons link to what I want them to. Could you suggest a program that can do the job? If possible, a little instruction would be much appreciated. Thank you.
