Lethal,
I think i have actually permanantly lost all my songs. SERIOUSLY. Anyway, i deleted my songs from my PC so i could regain alot of memory on my hard drive, but i didnt delete the songs from my ipod. The next day, iTunes manages to have reset itself meaning that there is no recognised link between the iTunes and the iPod and my library is empty. I hook up my iPod, add all the songs from my iPod into iTunes library. Happy. Until i add some new songs into iTunes and then try to update my iPod. To update i had to make anew link, causing iTunes to replace everything on my iPod with everything in the "new" iTunes. Problem, iTunes can't write the songs from my iPod onto my iPod, it has to delete from the iPod first and then add the new songs from the new iTunes. So, all the songs in my library cannot be found as they are not on my computer or my iPod, so they can't be written onto my iPod if they can't be found and now i'm left with an iPod with about 6 Podcasts on it.
Please could you at least try and help me?!?
Thanks, Lewis

Would recommend backing all of your songs onto CD's or DVD's as the case may be, my wife lost all of her songs in the computer due to a hard disk corruption, still on the Ipod, but not on the Computer now, still trying to learn how to download songs into the computer again using Ephpod, will post back later with the results. Great guide by the way Lethal_B.

Ephpod was unable to open up the Ipod, so I tried using Sharepod, Sharepod worked awesomely. Learned from previous experience and burned all of the MP4 files onto a DVD and archived the disk. Thanks again for the help Lethal_B. Made the wife happy.

I read some of the replies to this thread but I am pretty sure my question was not answered, sorry if I am indeed repeating something.

I would like to plug my computer into a mac that has not been set up for manual manage of songs from ipod. Is this someting that is set up in the ipod or the computer?

I quess the question is if you set up your ipod to manual manage once, does it reamain that way no matter what computer you plug your ipod into?

any help is apreciated!

thanks.

I've never tried any of those, but the one I use is EPHpod, search google or download.com for it. All u do is open it find your iPod drive, and click play song. And it adds it to your iTunes folder...but, it doesn't add as a file, so if u want it on a cd u have to have your iPod plugged in or u can just add the songs to your iPod and then plug that one in and burn the songs.

I have to give Lethal a big THANK YOU for this guide. The first program you posted did the trick(Sharepod). I had to format my computer and in the process i did more than that i wiped all my drives including my external drive. But thanks to you and this excellent guide i at least have my music library back.

Well done mate. :D It was greatly appreciated.

In My Computer you will see that your Ipod is attached and all it is saying here is to copy the shareipod file onto the Ipod. The way u do this is copy and paste on to the ipod. open the ipod folder in my computer and paste it in there.

Lethal, Thanks for the guides. I used the traditional one and after 30 minutes they were back on my external hard drive as F00 F001 etc files. I then went to itunes and double click to play one and all of them have the dreded !. When i click locate them a file opens and it says look in shared file but the file is blank. So I find my external hard drive and go there. Do I have to rename all those files or locate all the songs individually? In the advanced tab I have import to the external hard drive. AND if I used another program to transfer the files would they be correctly named?
Thanks,Susan

your computer will jnot drain your ipod it is possible that it is a battery leak or an old battery and may need replacing!
but usb ports will recharge your ipod that is if you have a pc that will have usb ports with power running through them.

nothing works

I've tried various freewares and softwares to get my 10 GB of songs onto my computer for backup. Yamipod, Sharepod, and a few others have not worked. Sharepod worked for about 100 songs but after that it no longer accepted anything.I have an older version (not colour screen) of the u2 edition. I'm horrible with computers but the directions are easy and I follow them... what am I doing wrong?

My computer crashed and I have finally got almost everything back on it. I have an 80gb Video ipod. If I use sharepod, will it also copy the two games I purchased from iTunes, along with my massive (52gb) of video? And what about all my contacts which I originally input into Office. (I know it will copy all my music and playlists)

Thanks
