Quote: From the Yahoo Biz Press Release:
Microsoft Corp. has teamed up with a handful of Hollywood studios to sell TV shows and rent movies that can be downloaded Through the software maker?s Xbox Live online video-game service and beamed straight onto television sets.
The company announced Monday that beginning Nov. 22, Xbox Live users with the latest console will be able to choose from shows including ?South Park,? which airs on MTV?s Comedy Central, and CBS Corp.?s ?CSI,? and movies including Warner Bros.? ?V for Vendetta? and Paramount Pictures? ?Mission Impossible III..."
Looks like 20gb isnt going to be anywhere near enough for downloading movies. If they wont Live to have downloadable content they really need to work out a bigger HDD, and not make it cost heaps like the 20gb (with extras) one.
I wonder how majorly the number of people on Live will drop when the PS3 is released, if its really cuts into Microsoft's profits then the will no doubt either upgrade Live with new features or make it cheaper.
I still dont see the price being an issue for many people, sure its bloody expensive but its gunna be sold out for a very long time after release, there is always someone willing to pay top dollar for the latest tech. The 360 being released for nearly a year has yet to blow me away with anything but looking at some of the PS3 videos of not even complete games i can see a real graphical improvement. In the end lack of space will cripple the 360 and Microsoft into making a new Xbox 3-5 years from now when the PS3 will just be reaching its full potential.

from wikipedia Quote: WMV files can be streamed from a computer through the use of Windows Media Connect or connected USB device
so it has selective playing of files that are already on the USB device but i dont think it can copy to or from them.

oooooooooooooook..this leads me to believe they will have HD upgrade kits if not........what are they going to do stream the data right from the net? we don't have that great of a net...... for 80+% of the USA to be covered in 300KB+ down steaming board band will take another 10 years or so...

Larger HDD's will be released no doubt after people have forked out money for a HD-DVD drive. All this extra stuff the 360 is getting added takes the price right upto maybe even passed the price of the PS3, but they are doing it gradually so people dont really even notice.

I do like the fact that with the upgrade system you can get only what you need and can get better when you have more money for accessories. But i would prefer to get a full system straight away without having to wait for addons/upgrades, makes it less hassle. Forking out $600 ($1200NZD) at once and not having to worry about anything will be good.

MS had made a dozen mistakes sony only a handfull,I think they could have easily made the HDMI a add on and it would be 150-200 by itself.
Is it me or is MS becoming goverment like in the screw up ability 0_o
Mmm leads to wonder if Sony is a dictatorship 0-o

Microsoft isn't forcing anything upon its customers here. They are just gradual upgrades that someone can make if they want to. I think it's totally different than a dictatorship or something like that because they aren't forcing anyone to get the add ons to play any of the new games coming out.
All companies are in business to make money in this industry. The ways of obtaining the money are different from company to company. I don't see the point in bad mouthing Microsoft here because the prices would be the same for the technology anyways. I like the way they didn't include all the technology because I myself would probably not use the HD-DVD player for a long time.
So when Microsoft didn't included all the bells and whistles, I thought of it as a good thing. Others may dissagree, which is fine.

Good points. The overheating and freezing issues 360's are having (or rumored to be having) are the reasons why I don't own a 360. I have a couple of friends that have 360's and they both have not had any issues at all, which is good. They were also the first systems to roll out too. There has already been so much talk about the specs differences between the systems, but I haven't read into any of that stuff. Whatever is fun, that's what I'll play, and it's going to be Wii for now.
It's great that it is not the only next-gen system choice now, but it is still a great system and people really enjoy it. If I were to get one next year, or the year after that, I would only get the system and not the upgrades because I would just like to play the games and not get any of the extra hardware. I like having that choice that Microsoft presents.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of 360 owners, as you do have Geometry Wars, which flat out owns. Oh and this game, which isn't getting any press, Gears of Wars. It might turn out to be an ok game...

Well i'd always go rather with the PC then the Xbox 360 and ps3 because they are lik my pc my pc has
Specs:
3.4ghz pentium 4 with HT
2GB Samsung AKA Winbond PC3200 DDR 2 ram
512MB ATi Radeon X1900XTX PcI 16x
So practically all the ps3 can give me is just a little more then what my Pc can give me at gaming.
But I would go for the Wii over my PC why??? Cause of the Realism of games because of the Wii-Mote
MY FAVEOURITE TO LEAST FAVEOURITE GRAPH (L->R)
6th Gen
Playstation 2---->Nintendo Gamecube----->Xbox------>Dreamcast
7th Gen handhelds
Nintendo DS------->PSP
7th gen
Nintendo Wii---->My PC------>Playstation 3------->Xbox 360

the specs of your PC may be the same but it doesnt necessarily mean it has the same ability to produce the same type of graphics that the PS3 can produce. AS there is no operating system constantly running (windows is a huge hog of specs) the ps3 has the ability (not saying it will) to output more than your PC's 3.4ghz. Also PS3 has Bluray which will make games able to be alot bigger, admittedly more disc space is still not needed for PC games like it is for consoles...

The more I think about it, I think it will be a tie with no clear winner. Let me explain why I believe that could be the case.
The PS3 is still going to cost more than $300 2 years from now, putting it out of range of many families. The PS2 has appealed to a moderate crowd of gamers. $ony has done studies & found the average PS2 games spends more on games then a Nintendo player, but actually plays less hours of games overall. On the Xbox360, gamers both spend more on games and spend more time playing them.
For the Wii, it's not going to appeal to a wide audience like it should. The WiiMote is going to turn off conservative type people. The hardcore crowd will not be adopting the system, and will go with 360 or PS3.
With Microsoft, they still have a bad rap as a company & many console gamers think Xbox = difficult to use. If the 360 were made by Apple or another company, it would be a different story. Gamers on Xbox are also more competitive & don't have a problem forming groups of people so they can play online together. Nintendo players are more solitary, or only play with close friends.
Sony, if their system were more reasonable at ~$350 right now, it would keep the market share it has. Instead, with a $500 system it loses. Most likely a small portion to the Wii, being so easy to operate. And Microsoft still hasn't brought out Halo 3 or any "killer app" to challenge the PS2's domininace.
For these reasons, I think no company will hold a majority of the market. It will segmented as it is now, with $ony losing about 10-15% of its market. Nintendo would pick up those who want an easy gaming experience, and Microsoft picks up the hardcore gamers.

things were not so clear with the PS2,GC and Xbox either however how things are going to seems MS has the ability to maybe get a solid foot hold on the 2 spot if not the 1 spot,Sony is the one to go top heavy this time anf they have not don a great job to hold the price down,MS has made so any mistakes its not even funny bu they are crawling along well,WII is going to do alright its niche is large and diverse plus peeps wanting the new control scheme I really thin the WII will do the best but not sell the most it that makes any sense.

This is what I think:
PS3 + XBOX 360 is just to close to call. The PS3 has better games (for me at least) but the XBOX 360 is cheaper.
As for the Wii. Thats got one awesome controller (theres no denying that) but I find that the games selection is full of stuff that 10yr olds will play. Maybe I'm wrong, but thats my feeling on it.

maybe. we wont be able to tell if ps3 or xbox 360 will take first just yet. i think the first year or two, definitely the 360 will out-do the ps3. but since were talking 5 years or more or less, the results could very well be a flip flop situation. no telling what happens. also sony is determined to stay on top, so who knows what sony will do to stay top. esp. because sony now has a online feature that many gamers will take advantage of that wasnt available for the ps2 which WILL make a big benefit for the ps3. they both look really nice...hard to choose waht to get.

yeah, going with wii wont do you any bad. itll be good. but if you get the 360 or the ps3, youll probably, mostlikely always compare one to the other, and wishing you waited. but if you are completely satisfied and wanted one of them really bad, then you got a good deal...obvoiusly. i think it would be stupid for someone to get a ps3 just because of the cell processor...and the xbox...for whatever reason one coulld come up with. and the wii, thats some crazy stuff there.
