Besides reading/preparing a disk with the Sony Dru drive, can anybody here tell me at what speeds they can read a 4.7g movie with their 16xDVD-ROM drives?(of course if you have one available)
Reading with my dvd-rom drive on a single 4.7g movie takes me about 30-35 mins (2x's)...is that normal??

I have a 500A with firmware version 2.0G.
Does anybody know if there's a way to use DSS so I can also speed up the reading of my DVD's?

Thanx in advance!
Dawnage.

DSS uses the constant angular velocity or CAV mode that allows The 510A drive to read data faster near the rim of the DVD than the (normal)constant linear velocity CLV mode would otherwise allow. If DSS is running in "overdrive" you can read full DVDs containing one (or a few files) in about 8 minutes. If you have a DVD containing many files (e.g. 1000), overdrive will not provide any read speed advantage over the "normal" DSS mode. The best way to tell if DSS is working properly is to write a single large file to the DVD and then measure how fast it can be read in "overdrive". As I mentioned above, DSS did not appear to offer a significant advantage using "DVD Shrink" to copy movies. Sometimes DSS helps, sometimes it does not.

Thanks for the info upintheheaa. It was really helpful to me. I had the problem about burning a CD-R to CD-R, it took me 20 minutes to do it and now it takes around 5 minutes. Thanks again.
