Quote: Oh, i actually think my DVDs are fine (maybe). Because i went onto ImgBurn and.... Tools - > Drive -> Capabilities. And under Write it only said CD-RW CD-R. So i presume its my DVD drive..?
If anyone has used...
TDK DVD+R 1-16x
Sony DVD-R 1-8x
Let me know if they're any good =].
I should be getting a new computer, so hopefully that will be able to burn ISOs.
Thanks for replying =].
Oh, my DVD destination thing is CRX820E Sony. I only have one. I think it's pretty crap, and like i said, hopefully my new computer has a decent drive.

So I burned the ISO files with IMGburn onto my TDK DVD+Rs just like the tutorial said, the game reads on the wii menu, but for some games, when I push start, it says that the 'Disc Cannot be Read'. Another game I burned starts fine, I play for a bit, then the same error message appears. Also I can't even choose some particular options in the menu.
I read that other people use TDK DVD+Rs and it's fine but I also read that Verbatim DVD-Rs are better.
Could this be a problem with my media (TDK DVD+Rs)? my burning software (IMGBURN)? or my dvd burner? Or that I updated my system prior to playing?
Someone help...Everytime I see it start, I get so excited! But it ends up being a bust!!!

I Jus thought id make a quick comment about burning wii games since i notice some people have issues with media type. Let me clearify something really quick. The Wii Console will read both dvd+r and dvd-r media. When using image burn or any other burning software you have to change the booktype for the type of media you are choosing. So if you put in a dvd+r disc and havent changed the booktype to that by default it usually leaves the booktype at -R hence it wont burn correctly and the wii will not recognize disc, so in conclusion, match booktype with disc and you will have no problems. =]

Your comment is wrong.
If you don't change the booktype on DVD+R media it burns as DVD+R by default since you haven't changed the booktype (not DVD-R as you have suggested). You booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM for best compatibility.
You can't change booktype for DVD-R media so burn without booktyping if it is DVD-R media.

thats what i said, if your media type is dvd-r then no changes have to be made however if the disc is dvd + r you must change the booktype, my burner is not set to dvd+r by default.

No that is not what you said. You said...

How I read this you are saying you need to change the booktype to DVD+R if your using DVD+R media. This is incorrect. You can't booktype a DVD+R disc to DVD+R you booktype it to DVD-ROM.
Some burners by default will automatically booktype DVD+R to DVD-ROM. So if this is the case for your burner then there is no need to booktype at all. Burning the DVD+R media will auto booktype the media to DVD-ROM which is what you want.
If your burner doesn't booktype automatically by default then you will need to manually set the booktype to DVD-ROM for DVD+R media.

Sorry for digging up a old thread but I have a quick couple of questions.
I have tried burning a wii image using imgburn at 4x on imation dvd-r 8 speed media and the game boots ok but crashes to that "the game disc cannot be read" screen whenever any actual gameplay is about to start.
Do you think it is bad media at fault? Oh, and how important is it to burn at 4x? Will burning at a lower or higher speed help at all if possable?
Thanks in advance for any help given.

More then likely it is the imation media.
Use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. If that isn't possible then try Sony.

Hi I know that this thread is old but I've searched hi and low on the internet and none of the guides seem to work for me.
I've tried everything. Even resorting to copying my mates backups that I know work on my Wii but the backups of the backups that I make won't work! I'm using imgburn and writing at 4x.
Any suggestions?

Tesco DVD-RW. My mates are Tesco DVD-R, so in theory they should be exactly the same right (obviously apart from mine being rewritable)

Well RWs are manufactured differently than -Rs. Try the same discs he is using. If the problem persists then it could be your burner.
Brands of discs that I recommend are Verbatim, Sony, and Taiyo Yuden.

@ NDarkness. Your tip worked a treat! Using the same discs as my mate got every single backup I had up and running and not just the ones I got from him!!!!

Ive been reading up on how to burn Wii images but it seems all a bit confusing. Most ppl like using IMGBurn to burn images. Is this the best softwear to use? I have Nero 7 Ultra, but ive read that its not good to use.
After you download an ISO or WII file. Ive read you need to unscramble the WII file using Rawdump 2.0. Then what? Just burn it?
I have a LG GSA-H10A drive. Can this drive work to burn games? I dont care to create my own backups at the moment. Seems to confusing right now. :)
Also I read somewhere that you can brick your system! So should I run the "Wii Brick Blocker" program before I burn it as well?
Basically what I would like to know is, is there a list of software and or a tut, explaining exactly what to do to burn Wii games?
Oh ya is burning GCN games similar or is it completly different?
About media: I have Maxell DVD-R's are they any good or MUST I get those Verbatim dvd-r or yudens dvd-r's?
And whats this whole thing about patching? I dont get it?! O_o
thank you in advance.
