I can't wait for results tomorrow.
Well I'll pop it in and rip and ISO and reburn right now. I'm confused as to how this would determine if the ISO files are corrupt. They will burn on the Ridata's. Also I took one of those same "bad" ISO's and I was able to successfully burn it at work using a different brand burner on the TDK's. The same ISO on this burner with the TDK did not work, however.

On a side note, what's a VTS file? :P Okay, going to rip and burn solely with ImgBurn now.

So that worked! I ripped and burned the disc using just ImgBurn and there wasn't a single error!

Okay, so how do we get Nero to work again? :P

I wouldn't count your chickens before they've hatched, but it's a step closer to success. Now for my second test:

I just finished burning one of the "bad" ISO's to a Ridata. We know the Ridata's work even though we can't explain why. The disc seemed to be fine, so I ripped an ISO from it using ImgBurn. Now what I'm going to do is try to burn it to a Verbatim using ImgBurn. That should be successful. If it's not, well then (I guess) the ISO was bad and it burned onto the Ridata bad as well - even though it burned successfully.

However, if it works (which I think it will), then I will try another test and burn that same ISO ripped off the Ridata via ImgBurn and try and use Nero to burn the ISO to a Verbatim. If the first test works but the second fails, then we know for a fact that Nero is the culprit. If they both succeed, then we know that the ISO was the culprit (even though it burned on the Ridata). If both fail, well I still had more success with ImgBurn than Nero and need to test further.

Okay for all of those still with us, it seems I have come to an impasse. Although as far as I can tell, the Ridata disc is fine and the ISO is fine, after the first part of the new tests, ImgBurn as given me a PMA Update failure. Here's the log (with my username edited out)

I don't know what all that has to do with his problem. I'm not trying to step on your toes either. He was burning fine with the programs he has - Nero 8 and Vista UE. The programs then have not changed to what they are today and yet he can't close a disc when he was able to then. Either the drive is now having trouble with all the discs except the Ridatas or in the last month a conflict has developed preventing closing the discs-but why not the Ridatas.

@LilMikey
What are you riping the dvds with-Fab,anydvd or what? Then what program in Nero do you use -Recode? Or do you use Shrink or something else and then burn with Nero. Are you dealing with ISO only? Can you burn a verb to completion using DVDFab for rip and shrink and burn or DVDFab and neroRecode and have the disc closed and play in standalone player?? I sure would love to see what a different SATA burner would do. Can you burn a -R disc?

Did you create an ISO with burned disc that worked and tried to burn said ISO in ImgBurn? Quit playing with the old ISO file for now. Make a new one from the Fab burned Video-TS files Verb disc that worked.-the files that make up the video portion of the movie-closest I can come-google it). Now burn the ISO with ImgBurn and if successful, burn it with Nero Burning Rom.

Look up higher on this page:

Okay, so how do we get Nero to work again? :P

I also burned the same ISO with Nero and had no errors either.

So the only real problem you ever had was corrupted ISOs that you kept trying to copy-over and over. As it happens you got success with a good ISO you made from a disc you copied with Fab from Video_TS files. ImgBurn and Nero are both working with a healthy file be it ISO and most probably Video_TS files. All seems to be right. Where in the world did you get the ISOs that aren't working correctly. Did you rip them yourself or get them from the internet? Not everything on the net is what it seems. Life is good now. Burn on! LOL

It does appear to be some of the ISO's. What I'm curious about is that they burned properly before. I've never had an issue with them. They've been sitting on my external hard drive backed up.

The other thing is that the PMA Update failure disks still seem to be working as well. I can still read all the files off the disc even though the ISO seems to be bad. Does that make any sense?

Maybe they got corrupted from disc defragmentations over time. I would get rid of them. If you have a good old burn saved then rerip the ISO to HDD if you want them there. I see no reason for them to be there if you have a hard copy disc. JM2C Glad you got it sorted. In the future, if you have a problem, don't keep repeating the same thing thinking the outcome will change, start from scratch and a clean file.

Well a PMA Update Failure generally doesn't mean a bad file - it means bad media. Which is exactly why I started troubleshooting the drive instead. That and the fact that using a bunch of different ISO's would add too many variables and not help troubleshoot. It's looking good so far, though, so I guess maybe that was the issue. Thanks for all the help, and thank you everyone else as well.

I use to get same error message. On a hunch I tried to play the disc anyway and it worked, the disc played fine even though I got an error message at the end of the disc at once. On other dvd copies I didn't get the error message but whenever I did, I still played the disc's and they played fine. Try playing the disc anyway.

You're a little late, he has solved his problem. By chance did you have that problem with a new Dell with Sata drives??
