There are a couple of threads on this already, but some people seem to be getting a bit confused about what this hack is/does so here is an FAQ to clear some stuff up.
Q:Is this hack real
A:Yes, unlike the other 20 000 hacks that all turned out to be fake, this one IS real (confirmation from xboxscene can be found here http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEuklluluFrFtUsLdW.php )
Q:What does it do
A:Allows you to play copied games
Q:Does it allow you to play unsigned code then
A:No!! this might come as a surprise to most of you old-school modders, but you cannot play unsigned code despite being able to play copied games!!! Here is why
All Xbox 360 executables (XEX files) are signed by
Microsoft. This means that if you try to change anything to the XEX file, the signature will be wrong and the file will not boot.
Now to protect from booting a 1:1(exact) copy of a game from a recordable DVD, microsoft gave each XEX file a 'mediaflag'. This mediaflag tells the Xbox360 from which media to boot (cd-r, dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, hdd, dvdxbox, dvdxbox360).
Changing this mediaflag in XEX is not an option as it'll break the signature so ... what's done in this firmware hack it 'breaks' the detection of the disc(basically the DVD-rom no longer looks for the mediaflag.)
Q:Can I play homebrew?
A:No, since there is no way for anyone to sign there own apps, it is not possible to run homebrew on a 360 using this hack
Q:Is there a guide on how to do this?

Q:Thats hard!! is there an easier way of doing it?
A:Not at the moment, but a lot of people are working on making it easier and im positive that in a few months things will be more clear and it will be 50% easier.
Q:Will this work with both the Samsung drive and Hitachi drive

Q:Can I rip my own games to play on my hacked 360?
A: Yes but it's difficult, you need a programme called WXripper(download here http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox360-tools/wxRipper.php )
and you need to hot-swap.

A couple of people have now said they have done it (on a couple of forums) I suggest you wait a while and things will start to clear up a bit.

O BTW, if people want to add to the FAQ then post you Q&A here and I will add it.(I have a feeling it's going to be changed quite a bit in the next couple of weeks)

so once you have carried out this hack will u be able to play backed-up games? would u have to keep ur xbox opened or will u just have to put in a back-up just like a normal disk.
i mean u wouldn't have to keep it connected 2 ur pc wud u?

Yes it allows you to play copied games. From what I can tell of the hack, once you have changed the firmware you can play copied games(with your xbox shut, i think the xbox was still open on the video simply because they were still testing)

dam, i have a xbox with a samsung dvd drive.
i'm 15, so i cant drive, or i could go looking for people who are selling thier xbox's, because i would be happy to sell my samsung driveone.
i just cant wait for them to test it out on samsung but i;m afraid i will have to.
just waiting for them to instruct me than i can fire away and get hacking!

You know how posting a hacked bios for xbox360 DVD drive is illegal.
Well posting patcher that patches the bios that is in your DVD Drive isn't illegal because it's posting a dumped bios or a hacked bios that illegal not the patcher.
Someone should post patcher somewhere or even better put the hacked bios on P2P network like Emule.

DVD-roms dont have a "BIOS", they have "firmware" :)

Oh right oops... and you can't patch firmware you have to update the whole firmware with a new one well than may be but than again I never seen I law stating you are not allow update the firmware on sonething that would make it do better things.

well theirs team xecuter trying to make this as noob as possible ( note i did not say mod chip however the company that makes mod chips is trying to repeat the steps to make a more friendly device for it to be easier done by public)

all i want to please know is...
if i go right now and buy a x-box360,and use the guide in the first post,my 360 would play a copied disk??????????,but the guide does not actually tell me how to copy the disk??????
i'm not a complete noob,but i want to make sure verything will work,before i get excited and spend hard earned cash,so could someone please explain???

Hmm... Just read this thread and I have to say it seems like a fake to me! I know writing a new firmware is way beyond me but this hack seems easier than the xbox, ps2 and GC put together!! Even if you can connect your 360 DVD drive to a PC (quite likley) to update the firmware, you wont need a mod chip. Sounds good as we will be able to hack for free!
Ok so they have produced a video as proof but do you really think this is real? I know you can see cables going into the TV from the xbox but how do you know its that xbox thats showing the image on the TV. Say you had another xbox plugged into the back of the TV and thats the real one thats playing the game.
Sorry folks. Just seems too good to be true!
