iPodLinux is an extremely risky software to use, especially if you are not 100% sure with what you are doing.
Have you tried slipping your iPod into disk mode~?
"Hold the 'Menu' and 'Select' buttons down until the iPod reboots and then immediately hold down the select and play buttons. This will put your iPod into "Disk Mode."
If you cannot get your iPod into disk mode, then you are unlikely to be able to mount it on your computer, and, if you are under warranty, you may get a replacement free of charge.

theres no risk at all with using ipodlinux on your ipod.
if you didnt notice it said that ipodlinux on 5g is not supported.
you may have downloaded the incorrect installer, you need a modified installer specificly made for the 5g, if you have problems with ipodlinux you should post on www.ipodlinux.org/forums instead of here, more people can help there cause the whole site is devoted to ipodlinux, great tutorial here for installation of ipodlinux on the
5G this is all i can help you with because i have an iPod Nano. hope this helped

Of course there's a risk..
I am not saying it is unsafe to use, however, it's not simple, and not supported, hence the reason I mention it's risky..

you can just restore your ipod with apple's software and it will be fine, ipod linux is not going to damage your ipod anyways.
Click here for my own unlocking forum:

Fast Response. Free. Easy
-----------------------------------------------
Remove the SIM card, Power On your Cell phone.
Press #
Press * 3 times fast for (p)
Press * 4 times fast for (w)
Press * 2 times fast for (+)
Verify code before pressing the last #.
If it still says Restriction on after you have entered the code, then the code is incorrect.
If it says Restriction Off, then the phone is unlocked.

Anything can damage your iPod when you're messing with things of this nature. Restoring won't fix many things that could happen.

Not necessarily. I could easily "brick" my iPod in 5 minutes by opening iPodwizard, and messing with the hex codes responsible for the iPod's main functions.

But you COULD although it would be difficult always put it back rite??
I know its v.possible to delete everything on your ipod and everything.
Its just a memory device. You can always put back onto your ipod what you have changed or destroyed.
I think.... lol

lecsiy,
If you mess with the hex code that tells your computer that an "iPod" is connected, then you are screwed. Memory devices can easily become bricked if you dabble with the firmware ;-)
