hello

i know there are guides on the net,and some very good ones, but here is another one, just for afterdawn

what is the MAME emulator?

the mame emulator is basically an emulator that emulates games, mainly old games that were present in the arcades many years ago,its more recognised with the PC,but we can use it on the ps2 aswell

Things you need

the mame emulator, get the zip from here

http://ps2emu.dcemu.co.uk/ps2mame.shtml

Some roms,get them from here
http://www.rom-world.com/dl.php?name=MAME

REMEMBER:do not unzip them, when you download them, you must select the option "save to disk"

CDGEN (to make the image),get that from here

http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=mis.html

step 1

first things first, you need to download all the things you need.
for this guide i will use 10 roms, the maximum you can use is 30

these are the ones i will use

1942 http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=24659
shinobi http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=21642
soul caliber http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=31299
space invaders http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=23211
commando http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=30904
arkanoid http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=24547
Mr DO http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=22717
scramble http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=21735
nemesis http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=21735
terra cresta http://www.rom-world.com/file.php?id=31438

WHEN DOWNLOADING THEM,YOU MUST SAVE THEM TO DISK

step 2

make a new folder and call it ROMS,then place your roms inside,it should look like this

step 3

now we have to make a filelist with a text document,..you can use the one that came with the emu,but i have made my own.
RENAME it GAMELIST.TXT

open it up,and enter the details of the roms as they appear on the zip file, minus the extension, and in CAPS

it should look like this

step 3

now we need to rebuild the image,so we can burn it to disk,so open CDGEN,

from the MAME emu you downloaded,we only need some of the files,as some are nfo's,and these are not required

we need the following

ROMS
system.cnf
GAMELIST.TXT
ps2mame.elf
sjpcm.irx

so,drop these files into CDGEN,in that order, and it should look like this

step 4

you need to change the LBA table values,so right click on the system.cnf file, and click edit

then tick the fix LBA tab
enter the value 12231
click OK

step 5

we nearly there..

choose a folder for the image to be saved
click save

see here,

you should see the progress bar scroll across the screen, and finally a message saying "image creating complete"

you can now close CDGEN,as its no longer needed

step 6

so now we have the image we wanted, all we have to do now is burn it to disk
for this i will use alcohol 120,just because its my favourite app,and a CD disk

so open up alcohol 120,and click on image burning wizard

browse for the folder which contains the image, only the cue file will be shown, and thats the file we want

why i am burning the small cue file?,dont i want to burn the bin image instead?

you must remember that the small cue contains all the information we need for the burner/alcohol 120 to burn the bin image properly
when we select the cue file,we are not actually burning it,we are just using it to show the way to the bin image.... ok?
so dont get all in a spin, just do as i say

so browse for the folder, click on the cue file, then click open

then click next

set it up as shown below

burn the image, and thats pretty much it

i have tested this setup and it works,a few of the roms didnt load, but thats roms for you!!!

cheers and have fun !!!

BTW: if you want to put this onto a DVD DISK,you can do,but once you have made the image with CDGEN,you must extract the files from the bin image and patch the PS2MAME.ELF file with sonix's console media patcher (i'm sure you can find it,if not just ask)
you need to patch it to "dvd",then rebuild the image again,(i used nero method for this)

I'm confused.....

You say right click the system.cnf file, but the pic shows you right clicking ps2mame.elf, and the edit screen also has ps2mame.elf as the file you are editing.

Did you mean to say right click the ps2mame.elf and edit that?

And with MAME, doesn't that already have the ROM folder? Would it be better to just save the roms to that already exisiting folder?

Cheers for the info so far though dude, playing MAME on PS2 and proper TV sounds really cool.

for burning it into a dvd I use this guide
here what programs you need
*ps2mame emulators
*nero burning rom

*unzip the PS2Mame
*make a folder call Roms and place all mame roms files inside
*edit the gamelist.txt file with notepad and list, one after the other, the names of your ROM files minus the extension. Make sure to use CAPS

open up Nero burning rom
here are the settings for a dvd

*DVD-Rom(UDF/ISO) not the DVD-Rom(ISO)
*ISO
File name length:Max of 31 chars(ISO level 2)
Formant:Mode 1
Character set: ISO9660 (standing ISO Cd-rom)
*Burn
make the speed at least 1x or 4x when your done click New
ok it time to drag the files you need here the list you should have on the left side
*Roms
*Gamelist
*Ps2mame.elf
*Sjpcm.irx
*System.cnf
*ps2mame.nfo
Once you have them all burn it and use swap magic dvd ver. or modchip to load it

sega megadrive..thats aka sega genesis
if you are saying you put segamega drive roms instead of mame roms, then it wont work
the mame emu is for mame roms only
you will need the sega genesis emu

i followed your faq by the letter and i created a .bin file and .cue file. i burned the the .bin image to a cd and the emu loads just fine...
But the rom wont load...it just sticks the to point where it says: "loading rom: kof96", and thats it..i wait for over 10 mins and nothin happens. and this happens with all my roms which otherwise work perfectly on pc. so wats wrong?..
PS..i even burned the .cue file to a seperate cd, but the same things happens..i dont think the roms are the problem here , do you??
thxxxx in advance.:)

in your "roms" folder, all zipped roms should have a ".zip" ending (rename them)i.e..
kof96 will be "kof96.zip"...n make sure they all appear in the same order as in your gamelist.txt....n make sure they r all in caps too..(in gamelist dir. that is)..
that should get it running....
BTW..wat roms are you trying 2 play??
