WEll with some of the posting in here I see that my statement of about 60Hz was wrong on the human hearing for the low sounds. ;)

I found this..

Quote:
The range of human hearing is generally considered to be 20 Hz to 20 kHz, but it is far more sensitive to sounds between 1 kHz and 4 kHz. For example, listeners can detect sounds as low as 0 dB SPL at 3 kHz, but require 40 dB SPL at 100 hertz (an amplitude increase of 100). Listeners can tell that two tones are different if their frequencies differ by more than about 0.3% at 3 kHz. This increases to 3% at 100 hertz. For comparison, adjacent keys on a piano differ by about 6% in frequency.

link to source.... i'm sure there are better explanations but this worked for me..

hth....

...gm

edit: highlighted is what I was getting at, the lows for most people are inaudible unless amplified significantly. :)

Oh noes. I may have something faulty in my system.

When i was playing a video(that successfuly played mins ago) my pc screen froze up and made a really weird buzzing sound.

The pc then restarted and booted back up fine. I shut it down and then played the same video again and it did the same thing. I'm gonna leave it on idle just now to see if it's the video that was somehow causing the crash or something.

Could it be a graphics card issue?

I'll try and get a video of the crash. When i rechecked the GPU temp(on the second try) it said 56c.

Well so far good news. Had my PC on for 15 minutes and played other video files and no restarts. I'll put it down to a bad video file i rendered.

If you go to this link <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher-Munson_curves>, you will see a chart which shows the amount of SPL's (Sound Pressure Level) necessary to hear frequencies at a perceived equal volume. On older "mid-fi" preamps or integrated amplifiers, you would find a "loudness" switch. When switched on, it would change the frequency response of the unit based upon the setting of the volume control. At very low volume control settings (low listening levels), it boosted the low frequencies (up to around 80 or 90 Hz) a lot while it also boosted the very high frequencies (typically above 8kHz) but at a lesser amount. The amount of boost was based on both the volume and the frequencies present. End of info on audio (eyes rolling into back of head).

I had a crash while booting up this morning and got a Kernel Fault error and it rebooted. I've heard of people who had problems with the Corsair Dominator 1066 memory a week or two after they were installed, so I ran memtest and got 1 error. I tested the DIMMS individually and got the same error for both sticks. I put the original G.Skills back in and ran memtest again. I again got an error in the same test (2) but a different error address.

I talked to the Tech Rep at Gigabyte, and he thinks my memory controller is bad and asked me to check the memory on another computer. I ran the test on all 5 sticks in the AMD and no errors. I also took the memory over to my buddy's house as he has a GA-EP35-DS3R, and again, a clean test on all 5. I guess it's time for and RMA! LOL!! I've got the computer running at default settings with a single stick of 667MHz memory at the moment, so if something does blow up, it won't hurt my new memory.

I guess the moral to this tale of woe is, if your computer fails memtest, run memtest on the memory in a different computer before RMA-ing your memory to get a better idea whether it's actually the memory or a problem with the memory controller!

Best Regards,
Russ

Greg: I only usually get this when I'm too close to my limit of overclocking (it doesn't seem to be related to CPU load) - a faulty video file can crash the player and potentially cause a hang with explorer, but it should never make your entire PC hang with a loud noise...

I was all set to call Corsair for an RMA and I got to thinking about it, and how every stick of DDR2 showed errors, so I called GigaByte and asked them, It hadn't crossed my mind to test it in another machine because the other is an AMD, but he said while it's not representative of the P35 chipset, it still should give me some sort of error, although not necessarily the same one! 5 different sticks failing the same test would be a bit bizarre! All 5 came up clean as a whistle. On mine the Dominators were failing MemTest at 880MHz and I backed down the fsb and they still failed at 800! I've since tried them in a Friend's EP35-DS3R and they come up clean on it too!

I know there were periodic delays where Intel stopped shipping the P35 chipset to the OEM's, and I know they have had problems with the X38 and X48's, where they halted production of them, but those problems were a bit more publicized than the problems with P35 chipset were!

Have Big Will (where the hell is he, BTW?) run MemTest on yours while he has them! I had hundreds of errors with the G.Skill at 800MHz with "0" errorrs on the AMD at the same speed. Another weird thing is now suddenly my CPU will boot up and run at stock voltages, and only requires 1.37v to run at 3.4GHz! Wierd!

Best Regards,
Russ

@Russ/Abuzar

what you guys are saying now about the cpu and the voltage that is the same thing mine was doing. it would run fine at a slightly increase then crash and run great at the lower voltage. i remember when i first started haven the problem, i talked to a tech at micorcenter and he said the board with the p35 chips would do just that. run at one voltage fine then crash and run at a lower voltage. he said something about the chip haveing a so called defect in it???? heck i dont know.

I heard about that but assumed it was solved early on. I've always used auto voltage and so far touching wood never had a problem.

I understand what you are saying, but this one was requiring 1.41v just to post and 1.44v to run without crashing. It wouldn't even post below 1.41v until yesterday, so somethings amuck it the NB chip, cause that's where the memory controller is. I knew of the problems with both the X38 and X48 chipsets, but I wasn't aware of problems with the P35.

Russ

That's not entirely true.. :) You have plenty of issues... :P

My P35-DS3P board is set to 1.4375v for the vcore and seems to run just fine atm.... knocking on wood as it seems more issues are discovered daily. :P

GM,

that case appears to have some features very similiar to some cooler master cases (tool-less design and side vents). note that it is not all alumunum:

Material of Front Bezel: Aluminum
Material of Main Chassis: 0.8/0.6 SECC/SGCC

As Morty said, it's similar in design to some Cooler master cases, but they don't seem to give you very much for your money. No case fans and no bus that I can see for the hot swappable Sata drives, so you still have to buy the removable bays to install in what's there. Since iStar sells those, it's a bit of a surprise that at least one is not included for the price, especially with everything else they already leave out. It's also a discontinued item, as it's no longer listed on their product list. There's lots better cases for the same money. Having to shuck out $30 or more each for the Hot Swap innards, when the Company makes them kinda sucks too. It also drives the total cost of the case up to around $209 if you want all 3 drives swappable! And there's still all the fans to buy! I will say this, it is a nice looking case though! Just my opinion, but I would pass on it! Nice $50 case, but not worth $119!

Best Regards,
Russ

sorry to burst your bubble ole buddie but directron.com is issueing me a refund on the TRUE I returned, even though it was over 30 days since I purchased it. guess you'll have to buy one flat out if you still want one. I'm still interested in the item we were considering on trade.

I could have PM'ed this but wanted everyone to acknowledge that directron.com is a trustworthy retailer. I will do business with them again.
