Thought I would post some quick pix of the Thermaltake VD1000SWA. As you can tell the wires from the HDD's stick out a little to far.. the HDD box is shown in one of the links and the HDD has to be "screwed" into the "box". The front "panel" has 2 hinges on it, 1 for the door (which is very sturdy) and 1 for the plastic front. The main problem with that is the door and panel are held onto the case with screws thru the plastic panel. Thru the plastic (which is a bad case design). One of the links shows the ODD drives installed and they're "slanted" or "crooked" which really sucks... I even tried different slots and couldn't them to level out. I guess I just got a lemon but it is upsetting to say the least.

shows front of case
pic 1

shows inside case and HDD box in upper left hand corner
pic 2
shows HDD wires (cables) and how much they stick out (not being right angle cables)
pic 3
shows the slanted drives
pic 4

Just wanted to post these and let you people have a look at what I was talking about. I have a Gigabyte aluminum case too and it's built much better than this one. Shame really cause I like the general design of the TT case. :)

's alright, in trying to change my OS letter from G: back to C: I bricked one of my XP installs.. It's not all roses for anyone. I'm really sorry you've had such awful luck with this build though Rob. Has the RAM been checked and replaced?

True, but remember he did a few things that he ought not to have done with it. Not meaning to throw rocks Rob, but some things you did were downright foolish, and maybe like me, fed by a little lust for power and the desire to join the 4GHz club. Overclocking it with a sub-standard PSU wasn't exactly, well you know! This is a classic example of what will happen to you one of these days Abuzar, with one of your builds unless you learn some patience. You were very lucky, Rob wasn't! Your's could just as easily have been a major disaster!

It may well not have mattered what brand of motherboard he used, given the circumstances. I've put together 22 GigaBytes this year so far and not one of them failed to fire up when I threw the switch. I'm very thorough and take my time and I've still only seen 1 BSOD with a GigaByte MB, ever! now excuse me while I go cheer up greensman!

Hey GM,
Hows about a Green case, and man do I mean Green! LOL!!

I saw this and said to myself, Self, go make Greensman's day! LOL!! comes complete with a 420 watt PSU! ROFLTIPMP!!

Russ

Russ I just pushed the buy button on the GREEN case. :) NOT!!!!!!! That thing may be green but it's hideous!! lol. I think I'll just return the TT case and be done with it for a while. I'll come across another Morty deal in the future and get exactly what I want. ;) The CM-690 is a good case just a bit heavy, course most of that is innards. lol. :P

....gm

rob sorry you're having a time of it. I think a NEW mobo may do the trick... Hopefully Giga will take care of you. :D

i just took everything apart. while doing so, i was looking at the CPU and the bottom of my cooler. the paste on it doesnt look to have covered the CPU all that well.this MX-2 paste is thick as a stick..lol i took some pics of the CPU and the cooler ill post them shortly let ya'll have a look at it and see what ya think.

whats odd hours before i decided to take it apart. it started to shut down and reboot on its own again. then it just got to the point it wouldnt load windows at all. it would go through all the step get to the windows logo screen then restart.

@zoso
i think once i get it (mobo)back im gonna take my mem, cpu, cooler, and mobo to micorcenter. they will put it all together check it out make sure it post right. then i will do the rest. they charge $20 to do that.
i gotta get the mobo in the box and prepare it to be sent back(yea UPS) but hey they are paying for it this time.
i gotta put a note in it telling them of this rebooting again.

ill post those pics in a bit
EDIT:
heres the pics

I saw the Asus Vento when it came out a few years ago. It was hideous then, it's hideous now.

Rob: I've had some hard times with PC hardware too, especially with my older PC. The solution really is just to stick it out. We'll help every way we can, and you know that. Try not to get disheartened as it really does you no favours.

Very well put to cincy as well. I've said it too Robert, so keep trudging and it'll work out. :)

btw made the switch back to the CM-690! Why did I wanna leave it anyway?? DA... is all I can say... lol. It's a well built case and has plenty of features, LIKE the possibility of about 9 fans. lol.

Here's another cheap psu story for you. -Wife and I where in the bedroom when we hear this pop pop pop, like firecrackers going off. Come in the living room and the electrical burning stench was thick. She noticed her pc wasn't lit up. I went over and pulled the side off and the heat just rolled out like it was an oven. Burned my fingers on the side of the psu, could have fried and egg or two right then. Took it out and pulled it open, seems capacitors make lively indoor fireworks lol. Glad I'm in the process of building her a new, bad thing is I got to find a psu that will work long enough for me to get some files off that machine though.

I can only imagine what would have happened if that thing would have blown flames enough to catch the ncaa jacket hanging on the wall on fire.

Next time get something like a Corsair, PC power and Cooling or one of the OCZ GameXStream ones.

Nice to know there wasn't too much damage.

yep - i built that one before I knew better.

hope the cheap replacement I found works long enough to get some files off of it, provided the psu didn't cook anything else when it went.

Here's the replacement I've been working on:

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811226025

PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153027

Video:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150285

Mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115031

CPU Cooler:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134

Any memory & storage recommendations?

Edit: just went to order mobo and cpu and the cpu is out of stock - when it rains it pours lol

This looks like it's a little better and little cheaper:

I would get a different case, but your wife may be set on the pink colour lol. Anyway you can do a lot better than that for the money, especially that video card.

PSU:
http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair-vx-550w-.../205852646.html

Video Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082

CPU Cooler:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115052

Ignore the single review for the CPU. From all professional reviews, it really is a great CPU.
