Ok, many people have this problem and the thing that is causing this is that you are running on 1.1 firmware, which has had a HUGe mount of problems, so I suggest you downgrade your FW to 1.0, or wait for Apple to come outwith a new updater.

1.1.1 isn't known to have video problems, as far as I know. Are you sure your video fits the standards for the iPod?

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats;

MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

If it doesn't fit those requirements then the problem probably enlies there. Try converting the video to something iPod compatible, if you don't know how you can take a look at Lethal's guide here:

Good luck, and post back if the problem still persists

Try downgrading your firmware to 1.0 with the link i have provided. I keep hearing that 1.0 firmware is the "best" and "most stable"

So try it, and if it doesnt work, then just update your iPod to your original FW

I have a new ipod with firmware 1.1 on it and I was having the same problems with the freezing every 30 seconds and sound problems with video. The first thing I found out was this it you ripped a dvd chapter by chapter and imported it into itunes using moviepod or another program like that it will play with no problems, but if you wanted to import a whole dvd it wont work. I called apple computers and asked them if there was anything to do and all the apple guy told me was hint hint quicktime pro is the exclusive video import software of itunes. So I bought my copy of quicktime pro and now I am able to import full length dvd's without any problems. Oh by the way I am using handbreak to rip the dvd's into .mp4 format

its just one mans opinion

It wasn't a 'hint hint' kind of thing, he was just selling Apples product, you could have saved yourself a pretty good amount of money by downgrading your firmware to version 1.0 and been able to use whatever video converting application you please, especially since Quicktime is pretty slow.

Ok, I downgrade my firmaware to 1.0 and still had the same problems. The video just freezes as soon as I press start. Its not like some people are mentioning, that the video freezes avery 20-30 seconds. It just doesn't start at all.

I can not think of any known problems then if you are using version 1.0 [double check that, for it to work you have to do a complete restore, or use iPod Wizard to downgrade your firmware, allowing you to simply update with the 1.0 updater] and as long as your video fits the afformentioned requirements;

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats;

MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

I can't think of any problems.

I have a similar problem and I never upgraded my firmware - I'm still at 1.0.

My video only freezes if I try to fastforward or rewind more than two or three minutes. Then it freezes, and goes back to the menu. Is anyone familiar with a fix for this?
