ok i tried it, alcohol didn't give me any option on what disks i wanted to use
and btw the files are mdf(over 800mb) and mds (about 80kb)

You need to get some 800mb CD to burn this, you shouldn't need to mount the image before you burn it - just burn it using the "Image Burning Wizard", use a 800mb CD, and under "Datatype" select "Play Station 2" and it should work fine

image mounting is more for pc programs and games, so eg it saves u burnin a pc game to disc were u can mount it and install from there, as dan said ps2 games never need to be mounted

Oh and by the way, .mds contains the image information and .mdf is the actual image itself, if you only have one .mdf file then you can burn either (.mds or .mdf), but if there's more than one .mdf file for some reason (e.g. if your partition on the computer is FAT32 and you have a DVD image, then chances are it'll get split into two files becaues FAT32 only supports up to 4gb, while most DVD images are just over 4GB) then you'll need to select the .mds file for it to burn correctly.

Yep, they aren't as common as the 700mb ones, but they do exist.
Alcohol 120% doesn't convert the files to iso... .iso, .mds/.mdf, .cue/.bin are all just different ways of storing CD/DVD image files on the computer, the contents are the same, but different format. It's like different ways of compressing files, .zip and .rar are different formats, but when you extract them, you get the same thing :)
