Well, last Christmas I got an 5g 30gb Ipod with the Product Service Plan from Best Buy. Earlier today I went to use my ipod and it wouldn't boot up. I tried charging/connecting to my PC and it would recognize it. So my question is if anyone knows what Best Buy will do. Will they just keep it and try to fix it (so I won't have an ipod for a while) or will they just replace it, or what?

Thanks in advance.

Well, before you do that, try restoring your iPod with the apple updater. This should fix your problem. Just remember to keep a backup of all your songs/videos on your computer because restoring will erase all of that from the iPod itself.

Best Buy *generally* swaps out your iPod on the spot when it is so called 'dead' There are ways to probably remedy the problem yourself. Does your iPod do anything at all?

It won't start up or connect to the computer.

So if I was to return it, would they just give me 300 store credit or give me a new ipod.

they will probably try to fix it or just give you a refurbished one. apple don't give out new replacements, they are all refurbished.

Yeah I would still just try to fix it with a restore. This should fix it and prevent from you getting a scratched up refurbished replacement.

I have that plan from best buy, and have used it twice, the first time I had the iPod for about 100 days and the Hard Drive quit, and best buy swaped it out for a new one. The second time it wouldn't turn on, and I had had it for about 60 days, and they swaped it out again.

Best Buy will most likely swap it from what I have seen.

Apple will give you a refurbished iPod, Best Buy as I mentioned will almost always just swap your iPod for a brand new one.

I have a best by plan thing aswell.

mine is 2 years.

the guy told me it covers any problems I have

Scratches (LOL)
not booting
broken
broken parts.
water damage
any type of damage really.

If you return:

-Get your money back including warenty, in best buy credits
-Get a brand new one
- ask for it to get refubrished.

Key notes:
International warenty, it can be returned to any best buy. (I got my sandisk sansa e250 in the usa, and I live in canada so it covers you any where just aslong as their is a best buy and you got your reciet. If returned in other country then they will convert curancy.

So dude, you say that they replace it for any reason, but are you sure thats the Product Service Plan? I think mine says it doesn't covers accidental damages. Also you say that I should ask for them to refurbish it. SO would I get my old one back, plus get the best buy money to buy a new one?

I'm pretty sure dude845 is incorrect on this. Best Buy will replace your iPod with a new one, for hardware failure [broken hardrive, stops working...] or because of a failing battery [less then 50% of its original strength] Signs of abuse will most certaintly void this warranty [things like a cracked screen, a large dent]. I havn't heard of them giving you store credit either, but it could be a possibility.

I cracked my Screen, and Best Buy wouldn't give me a new iPod but I went in to Apple and they gave me a new one no questions asked. This was a Photo though.

Apple's policy is to not replace your iPod if it has a cracked screen, but it really depends on which employee you get to help you.

My 60GB iPod video started acting up months ago (it would freeze up in the middle of songs, freeze up when turned on after coming out of hibernation, and take a half-minute to advance to the next track). After putting up with it getting progressively worse, I gave in and brought it back to Best Buy today. I got it in January '06 with the service plan. Sure enough, they said it would need to be sent out for service. So now I'm without an iPod for at least two weeks. Sadness...

...and it's back!

I just got a call from Best Buy. They couldn't fix my iPod, so they're swapping it out. The 80GB is mine!

Nope, just that the service technician had determined that it was unfixable. When I dropped it off, the Geek Squad guy held it up to his ear and said that it sounded like there was something wrong with the hard drive.

It was still covered by the manufacturer's warranty, so the Best Buy service plan transferred over to the new one.
