True, but you're still stuffed for any unsigned drivers. I may well get a copy of 64-bit Vista, if only to test out emulation and run memory-intensive programs (after I get more RAM of course!)

I heard that vista has many bugs. However, I will require vista because i am a gamer and am getting ATI HD 3870. So, which version of vista is the best one? People say home premium is the best for gamers.

I agree. Some people prefer Ultimate, but the thing is that Vista Ultimate has so many things in there that you would never use, which also brings the price up as well.
Most of the bugs have been worked out in Vista, and with SP1 shortly around the corner, the bugs that are left should be fixed.

when will sp1 for windows vista be available? Does this help fix many bugs in windows vista home premium. Also, people say direct x 10 will literally speed up your graphics performance of games by alot.

Directx10 offers no speed advantages, but it offers better graphics. Because of that, your games will actually run slower due to the extra things the graphics card has to render. Because you bought an HD3870, when DX10.1 comes out you will be able to run Anti-aliasing on new games, unlike all the 8800 fanboys that rushed out to buy GT cards.... :)

but of course they will. if you set any game on high, and then on low, you will not only see an amazing difference to the graphics but to the FPS aswell. sometimes its the difference between slideshows and smooth play.

Depends what the low-end CPU is. Any core 2 duo or Pentium E will be ok. A Pentium D won't.

No, absolutely not. If you don't have a decent graphics card, no CPU can pull a decent frame rate.

With your PC right now I'd put the GPU above the CPU. Once you upgrade to any dual core though, I'd reverse that.

yeah i gotta agree...my CPU is making my games lagging...and it's slow to be honest...takes forever to load a game...or maybe it's because of my ram...cause my friends 3500+ is pretty fast...and he has 1 Gb of gaming ram...and SLi 6600GT

Probably neither, if you've got the same amount of RAM, the only differences would be the hard disk speed and CPU, the actual speed of the RAM isn't really vastly important. Tidy up your hard drives or buy faster ones!

Yep, certainly Company of Heroes, and Call of Duty 4 will run fine too. What screen resolution do you normally use?

Not to play it, no, but to run it on high settings you would want a decent GPU.
