Quote: i beg to differ,go back a few ,might actually be quite a few pages, and several people agreed with me,it's the dvd checks,in the ioprp300.img...so actually i was right :)...
yeah your right cuz when actaully applying the patch from toxic it does search for the ioprp300.img file then says found and patch ok :)

@ sharky22 i was working on this today, until i received an e-mail saying toxic had released the patch for d/l to use on "chipped" PS2's,for obvious reasons,i gave up on what i was working on...here is an article that may interest you,OTP/PTP can be manipulted to put on a dl disc.
http://www.eventdv.net/Articles/PrintArticle.aspx?ArticleID=8421
now i don't want to sound sarcastic or a smart a*$@,but why don't people that have dvd burners upgrade to dual layered burners, they aren't that expensive $AU120.00 for a decent brand, that way you can still burn your dvd5's,but in the case you need to use a dl disc...(GT4 is a prime example)your set to go,dl media is dropping in price,it's like everything else, the more you buy(bulk) the cheaper it is

pplleeaase, the dvd checks ARE the otp/ptp checks!,thats why a 1:1 copy with decrypter gets as far as the second layer before stopping,if it were anything else(other than the usual ps2/disk check which mod-chips bypass),then you would just get a rsod or read error.
As for "tata",i registered for this forum to learn about this stuff for future reference as well as make a backup and to try and help others with my very limited knowledge!,nuff respect to the toxic team for sorting it,and to lburna and toolboy for helping with it,i'll still be logging on to see if there's a dvd5 rip,but personally i think it's very improbable, you can downsize the split .vol file all you want but the toc is still gonna search two layers for the information(every time it needs to load data)and i don't think anyone knows just how many times it does this, which is why,by simply telling it not to search for PTP,and allow OTP....it works!,i'll take my hat off to the person that can dvd5-alize this little baby!!

the checks are not anything to do with OTP/PTP....the dvd checks are in the ioprp.img which toxic made a patch for.OTP/PTP are burning methods which can be manipulated....do some investigating pleeeaassse

ok,you've got to be having a laugh mate,i know what otp/ptp are,and if YOU have looked it up,the ps2 CAN read otp or ptp (parallel track path, opposite track path),but if the ioprp300.img file(which contains the basic input/output hardware function database, tells the disk to freeze if it detects a disk that is burnt (otp) and doesn't have a second layer with the value 00 as a starting point (which would be the first sector on the second layer and because it's originally ptp it'll read in-out from sector 00 layer 1)then it will not work, the ps2 uses an emulation type program to run these ptp dl disks and it WILL ask the ioprp300.img what type of disk it's suppose to be and the ioprp300.img WILL tell the ps2 it's suppose to be PTP and therefore shutdown the run sequence if a normal burnt otp disk is inserted (note that the toxic release note states to change booktype to dvd-rom as it will check for this as well),toxic have re-programmed the ioprp300.img to tell the ps2 that:either it doesn't need to check for otp/ptp OR it reverts to otp as a default.Think everybody knows what otp/ptp means, and rather than just bicker about it,you could be doing something useful and actually helping.
peace

@ speccyfan.....not bickering....just do some more research on OTP/PTP....read the link i supplied earlier in the post, ....like i said OTP/PTP can be manipulated.dvd checks are usually found in image files...hence the ioprp.img.
and NO not a lot of people knew about OTP/PTP till now.i would agree that this would be the issue if the blank media was double sided, but not single sided

I've not posted before but thought I should express some gratitude here. Thanks to L-Burna and toolboy for all their work in making the game play off hdd. toolboy's guide was an absolute breeze to follow. Also thanks to toxic for their DVD9 patch. For the record I have a Ripper2 chip in my (UK Pal) PS2 and a 60Gb Maxtor HDD.

I extracted it and now i have one image, *.iso, 5,23GB, 5 618 059 264 B.but when i get it into that toxic patcher it shows "Error: Not a dual layer disk"! WTF?! does enybody know why is that?! I'm waiting for a quick answear! PLEASE! is this right image? if yes - what i need to do to get it work!? plese help me!

Strange, same problem here. I tried the DVD9 PAL Multi5 iso-version of GT4, but the Toxic-patcher does not reckognise the 4.54GB torrent (unpacked ISO is 5.23GB) as a DVD9-ISO either, it thinks it's a DVD5 or something, and says ' Error : Not a dual layer disk ' .
What torrent-version/image did the dudes overhere use that succesfully patched the iso with the new patcher. Can I download the HD-patched DVD9 version for example ?
It's great that with all the bios-updates of modchips and patches the game finally is cracked and burnable, but since there were so many versions nuked back then it is still not really clear what torrent-version people should get. I saw STRIKE's DVD9 version mentioned, is that the only one 100% working ?

I had an iso and an mds, done with DVD Decyptor, of the original PAL version on my hd, and ran toxic's patch which said 'patching successful'. I then opened the mds file with DVD Decyptor and burnt it with my Pioneer DVR-108 on a Ritec DVD+R dl disc. Curry, you have got the hard disc version which has been converted and won't go back on to disc. You need the original iso and then run toxic's patcher on it.

Even if I make the backup with the toxic patch it won't matter cause I won't be able to use this backup with SM/fliplid correct? cause SM won't boot DVD9 backup's correct? So what can I do then? Wait for a SM DVD9 version or get a mod chip instead? So what about the EA mothod maybe and UP the TOC size using another DVD9 game maybe like MGS2S? that wouldn't work would it? thanks

@ Bar-code :
Did you change the layer break sector with DVD Decrypter before burning the patched image?

Curry, if you're not going to buy the game, then at least make the ISO yourself. Rent the game from a store, ISO it with DVD Decrypter, apply the patch, and burn it to DL.
You guys should know by now to NOT depend on releases that you download. And if you do, then make sure that it's game that you could ISO yourself without any special procedures added to it.

i burned it on a Datasafe DL disk with a NEC2510a writer and it works in a v7 PS2 with DMS3, but NOT in a v7 PS2 with Magic 3.1
anyone who tries it - please post what writer, media and modchip you are using so we can see what works and what doesn't

I'm not sure if this was tried but i didn't feel like reading all 40 pages to find out.
Anyways my idea is with the patched GT4 ISO could you load it onto HDloader and then it possibly work?
My PS2 is at a buddy's so i can't try this myself, please let me know if anyone tries it.

40 & 60 GB HD (swapable)

Just use Toolboy's patch. No need for a modchip, just run his instructions exactly as he posted them, and then you can run GT4 on your HD.

Toxic patch worked for me!
My PS2 is fitted with a DUO2SE.
I used DVD Decrypter to create the ISO+MDS.
I then applied the Toxic patch to the ISO.
Finally I burned the revised ISO to a Verbatim DL DVD+R using DVD Decrypter in conjunction with my DL burner.
Put it in my PS2 and happy days... I was really surprised because I didn't think that the DUO2SE would support DL discs.
