Hey, I recently installed a DVD burner into my computer. Now i have a CD Writer drive (set as my master) and a DVD burner drive (set as my slave) . Now I'm too lazy to wait 4 hours for a DVD to burn..so I would rather use a VCD or SVCD. Now heres the problem. When I put the file there it says its too big..now it says that cause it thinks im using a 700 mb disc. But im using a DVD. So it says that i dont have enough space. I burn anyways. I did this with the SVCD and i got an error. So my questoin is..is there anyway to get the error to go away, or is there any fast way to re-encode/burn the dvd? Thanks!

your VCD or SVCD are in an mpeg1 format, you need to reconvert them to mpeg2 before your software and dvd burner will reconize them to be in the proper format for that type of burning.

How does it take 4 hours.
Encoding is a max of 1 hour per 700med file
Burning should be about 15mins top depending on the speed of the disc.

My question then is : What are your pc stats and what software are you using to burn/encode

Im using Nero 6. My PC stats--2.6 Ghz, 760 MB ram, 16x dvd writer.

It takes me about 3 hours to burn a dvd with the transcoding..I'd like to get it down to 1.5-2

Do you download your files and then convert them or do you put a disc in the drive and copy it.

Nero is alright as an encoder but its not dedicated enough for my tastes and is certainly not the fastest one available on the market. In afterdawns software section under DVD-R tools you can find a trial version of DivX to dvd and then the remodelled version called Convert X to dvd.Try these and see if they beat Nero in the time stakes and then re post with your comments

i used winAVI now, not so bad. It takes at most an hour to transcode it to DVD format, then i burn it to Nero which burns in a few min. Not so bad now.
