I was thinking of buying an ipod video but i wanted to know if there was anything I could do to it that would make it play flac files. I know it doesn't support it right out of the box but is there a mod or something of the sort that makes it possible to so? Thanks in advance.

You must encode flac to mp3 or AAC first, then transfer to your iPod.

I figured that. So there is no way whatsoever to play flac without reducing quality? I read about apple lossless can i convert flac to apple lossless? Is it the same thing except different formats? I just want the best quality possible for my music. All help is appreciated.

Not True

It takes a quicktime plug-in for FLACs, as well as a component file, but its real easy. With everything installed its a two step process. You drop the files on the app (takes like 2 seconds), and then drop it in itunes (normal import speed).

this is from the readme (for macs). if you have a pc, just go to the first url, and read that readme for further directions.

1. Make sure you have XiphQT installed.
2. Make sure you have FLACImport.component installed.
3. In Finder, select your FLAC files.
4. Drop the selected files on 'Set OggS' app.
5. You should be able to add the selected files to iTunes (drag'n'drop, or from menu).

If you need to clear the OggS type on your FLAC files, drop them on the 'Clear OggS' app.
