But let us not forget Sam's Club. Every now and again, they'll whip out some old stock - (I've found Sony MIJ octagonal spacers)the week AFTER there were none. Another overlooked source would be flea markets, unclaimed freight stores, out of the way hodgepodge stores, and off the beaten path small town (common) chain stores. They might be a touch more expensive, but the difference could be made up in driving all over creation.
But consider this my friends. If it's worth it to you, then it is worth it period.

ChrisC586- You Got it Toyota LOL!- Don't forget the walgreens stores- they sometimes have some MIJ's Sony & to a lesser extent Maxells . But it's mainly a hit and miss kinda arraingment! One store has'em next one does'nt ect.. Still worth looking though ! And don't forget those Big Lots stores or sometimes their called oddlots store or something similar ! My local biglots usually only has Hp Branded DVD media ( CMC Crap) Or Jvc Brand media ? ( Quality unknown ) But I have pulled some MIJ sony out of there albeit not lately ! And on occasion I've also seen some verbatim Dvd's there ( MOVIE reel Kind) Like they say every week it's a different store ! I find it's agood place to pick up older movies cheap especially Vhs titles ( VHS -Boo ,hiss ,Boo !) I know but I dub them to my Liteon 5005 and then it's a dvd - & I give my VHS original to My brother -in law who's on disability & he's happy to have the tapes! The only thing you have to be careful of is sometimes Biglots gets Greymarket Goods Mainly in foodstuffs -Like cake mix made for the Middle eastern Market - same BETTY Crocker Chocolate cake just the box is printed in either Arabic & or Hebrew ! With the Vhs tapes It's mainly Popular movies that were made for the Hispanic /Latin market = Mexico , south america ect... so unless you Habla Espan`ol ! read the box carefully ! You can also find some gourmet foods quite cheap there too again if you want it get it when it's gone it's gone ! Got a little off the track there - Hope you find this useful . Good luck & happy Hunting !

well, newegg.com have the verbatim 8x data life plus onsale,
50 packs for 13.99. thats pretty good price for those awesome
mcc003s right??? they should be almost same quality as the tyg02's right??
It used to be you can just look for the white octaganal thing in the cakebox but the new ones have a cover sheet on top of it so you really can tell except read the labels.

Which sony?
Look at the foam spacer that holds the discs secure in their spindles. Get the spindles that have the white styrofoam spacer that has an octagon shape. Those will yield the sony Tys.It's faster to find the sony tys than reading the fine print on the spindles.
Sony also uses white/round foam spacers and a round gray spacer.I've seen many spindles of sony + format media that said Made in Japan, but didn't have the white octagon spacer-and they coded as sony media, just like their taiwanese spindles.
The taiwanese sony are still pretty good though. Those sony Tys are getting very scarce in my realm.
Rite Aid? I don't get in there very much, UGGH!
I've only seen some crappy MIT media like TDK and some other brands. Same with CVS and Walgreens. Once in a great while they'll get a shipment of some good stuff. A new walgreens is being built in my town, right next door to CVS. Seems like they are trying to run CVS out of business here in Ohio.
I even keep an eye out at the Dollar general stores and Odd Lots/Big Lots/Aldi/and Sam Goody's. My nearby Odd Lots has some top quality Made in China Panasonic dvds!!!! Yummy!LOL

Oh not so fast my 'lil learned green buddy, I have seen Sony 8X MIJ TY's in big lots within the past few months. Granted they are few and far between hauls, but they do show up from time to time. I'm just waiting again for the Verbs to go on sale again. Easier to find around here in the Carolinas. All the Sony's I've seen now have a printed cover over the spacer, so it will be a crap shoot as to which good Sony product you'll get. There is one 50 pack of Sony MIJ white octagonal spacer TYG003 disks sitting on the shelf at Circuit City in the University area, but alas it was not on sale. Do they price match Staples ads?
Look for this spacer on top of the spindle

Yes, Circuit City DOES Price Match Staples Ads, 110%!
Ask for a "Price Match Plus".
I do it all the time so I know this for Fact. Happy Hunting!
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

My local K-mart and Walmart are the only stores where I see the octagonal spacers now...for the +R's atleast. For Circuit City, the 110% price works the same as Staples, right?

Yep, the 110% Price Match works the same. To get the BEST deal, find a Store like Circuit City that has a Higher Retail Price, example: CCity retail for 50 DVD+R Sony is $39.99, 110% Price match with Best Buy Sale price of $12.99 equals Final Price of $10.20 after the price match at CCity! Woo Hoo!
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Yep ! ( It's time for my Evolving lesson ) LOL! - I still Would get The Mij-Sony 's if I can find them ( The octagonal spacered ones ) But like evryone says They are getting newer stock in with the Blue label/card stock over the spacer so They are making it harder on us again ! Verbatims However are always fairly easy to find & often on sale !!!! - Just orderded some from BUY.COM - 16x DVD+R 100Ct. Spindle & The Complete Greg The Bunny collection on DVD ! Total Cost $30.50 It would have been much Higher but I applied for and got A Buy.Com Chase Visa - & used it ! They give you a 30.00dollar coupon to apply towards your purchase if you use their card for the purchase ! So it's basically Like I'm Getting The Greg The Bunny Set for free ! They also Have this deal Where when you use The GOOGLE CHECKOUT ! That they will take $10.00 off a $30.00 dollar purchase & $20.00 off a $50.00 or more purchase - You can't Hoowever use the Google Checkout With your $ 30.00 Buy.com Credit/Coupon ( I tried ) but it was at least a Valiant effort ! I also bought some 8X DVD+R verbatims from them Recently - With $10.00 off ( Google Checkout ) , & $ 10.00 Mail in rebate My total after Rebate is going to be like $ 10.00 = 100 dvd 's @ 10 cent apiece ( free shipping ) Not too shabby ! & No I don't work for them either ! I did get a Email that my Rebate is being processed ( I sent the Entire Bleeping Wrapper in this time )So I actually May get my check this time ! Buy .com has all kinds of stuff Though perhaps not as much electronics wise as Newegg ? I also believe I saw something about pricematching on their website but it's limited to certain stores Like BESTBUY ect... see their website for more information ! well Hope some of this helps ( Happy Birthady to Me ! & Happy Holidays too You!

I'm afraid to take a chance on those chinese panasonic's because the price is way too high compared to the quality stuff that I pick up.
I've got a whole pile of ads for this week.Planning to do most of my christmas shopping the next 2 days off from work.I'm planning on hitting Best Buy,Office Max,Walmart,Staple's,Kmart, and some drug stores.
I'm trying to find a nice digital camera,sd card accessible for the best price for my dad for christmas.
5-6 mb pixels seem to AVG $150 or so. Best I've found is a kodak and nikon for $130.Bestbuy had them for under $80 during Black friday,so I can kick myself in the arse!!!!
BTW: I checked out my local staple's and they had the Epson R-220 on sale for $80 in case anywho is looking for one. All their sony were made in taiwan, round gray spacers,or had a paper label covering the top of the spindle.
Walgreens has 25 pk sony on sale for $8.99

Happy Birthday, BIGTOXY69. How many shots do you need to do? :>
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Happy Belated birthday BigToxy69! Do a couple of shots for me! Tequilla and Firewater!!!!
Yujenh: That plexy is working very well. Super quiet, very smooth and burning at 8x. I've used SonyD21,Ty-g03,MCC-004, even some prodisc and cmags and no coasters out of 50 backups. I don't know how much wear and tear the guy before me had it,but I am very happy with it.It's in my backup pc and I used to get a reboot/blackscreen every now and then while watching a dvd. That issue has stopped-with the removal of the Lite-on 167T dvd-rom drive.I'm using my original 1620 to do the ripping. I haven't tried OTF on it yet,but I shouldn't have no worry when I try it. I still haven't updated the fw yet.
I don't think I would have paid the full retail of $140 + for it,but well worth the $70 I paid for it slightly used.
This plexy isn't compatable with nero's quality disc scanning program,so I scanned them with my 1650. I still get a huge spike at the 2 gb mark-which means somethings wrong with the 1650 during the reading. At least I found what's causing that spike issue.
Comparing it to all my benqs? Phenomenal booktyped backups from all of them! I wouldn't be afraid of sending any of my backups, anywhere in the world!
