If I treated myself to a new PSP for christmas, what could I do?

Hi, I've seen a cheap PSP in Curry's (UK). I wanna buy it, but I want to be able to use DevHook and run retail games off my PSP. I dont want to buy a v1.5 PSP off ebay when I can get want 25% cheaper from currys. Can I "Hack" my PSP? Dunno bout the new firmwares that are coming out, but i want to be able to hack it! Are the PSP games in regions (PAL, NTSC,....)?

lol I've been ill all week so I've been able to carefully moniter the forums :P
On topic:
You will definately get a 2.8+ PSP from Currys. So there's no hope in 'hacking' it! :P But you could play retail games and Sony game demos :D
But on Ebay however... :P

Ye theres always ebay. But I only use Ebay to buy little things (Cricket balls, footballs, books,...etc.) never bought anything that big off ebay. Dont intend to to be honest, and it will stay this way. Let me tell you a story.... My girlfriends dad saw a cheap BMW on Ebay for cheap (it was a rare version, forgot what it was as he is a car salesman) and he bought it from Greece for £3000, or around $5000. He bought it and never heard anything from the seller again. No comparison to a PSP but i wouldnt enjoy getting conned if it happened to me. So I dunno.

£3000 and £150 are a weeny bit different :P
but I see your concern.
Well I don't have homebrew/a 'hacked' PSP and I managed to live.
Though I do wish I never upgraded my original 1.0 Japanese PSP :(

i recently brought a white 2.71 from gamestation which can use devhook, if you search the forum there is a way to tell the firmware before you buy from the box, the people in gamestation are sound and if you tell them you want a 2.71 then im sure they will check for ya.

Ye i know gamestation, they are propa safe. I bought my XBOX and DS from there. If I ask for a version 2.71 PSP can they get me one? Are u from UK?

im not sre if they can get you one, but they can tell you if they got one in,
my GF recently brought a pink psp and we asked them what firmware it was and they got the box out and showed us the code on the side so we knew it was 2.81.
you could ring them up and ask her what the code on the side is on the ones they are selling at the mo

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Pink PSP's were definately being shipped with the TA-082 motherboard.

the pink psp thing was just an example to show how sound the gamestation people were, my gf still got it cuase she wanted pink,
ok basically you need anything below firmware 2.81 becuase you cant use devhook, on the box there is a letter which is a code for what firmware it is, the lower the better, there are two types of 2.71, the older version and the newer version, the newer one has a Ta-082 motherboard, this one still plays devhook on it but you have to load HEND first (do a quick search on the forum for HEND),

actually it would prob be better to do a search for HENC, HEND is the newer version and there is prob less info on it, but they basically do the same thing,

no you cant, you can run it on anything below 2.81, e.g, 2.71, 2.60, 1.5 etc,
you cant run it on 2.81, 3.01

So if i phone Gamestation and ask wat letter is on the back of the PSP box, if it is A-G it is hackable?

Ye, I will go after christmas to get it. I was going to treat myself to a new laptop, so its either a laptop or PSP. Iam planning to spend £500 on myself as it was my bonus this year, so i dunno what i will get. I might get some more money from friends and family so i might be able to afford both. Thanks for all you help so far pitofgold and philip.
