Concerning the Office Depot specials. I've read somewhere that the OD 100 spindles generally code out as Ricohjpn and and the 75/25 bundle are 8X and code out as Ritek. Of the Ricohjpn and Ritek, does anyone know which are better for a BENQ 1650 burner.???? (It is over a 100 miles for me to get to BestBuy or Office Max for Verbs and I don't won't to order on line for TY)

LABOY- Well I've bought loads of both( Some in the 8x when it was still fairly available ) & in the 8x and had no worries with the Officedepot Riteks in that Speed ! In the 16x 0fficedepots You'll either get The Riteks or The RicohJpns Like you mentioned ! And Though I have'nt Gotten to these yet either ( Still Burning Through my 8x media ) I just recently Finished burning through a 100ct. spindle of Ricohjpns ( TDK 4XDVD+R's ) and went 100 for 100 with no problems ! Which is not to shabby ! I realise you are asking about the currently available stuff ! which is almost always 16x ! But thought you would be interested in my experience in these Brands ! Based On my previous use with their lower speed media ! I would probably prefer the riteks because having slightly more experience with the brand ! That being said You may get either brand depending on spindle size or Type of media DVD+R /DVD-R One quick check you can do is smell it THe last batch of OFFICEDEPOT DVD+R's I bought smell like syrup it sounds weird but they do ! & they code out as RicohJpns ( R03's) I think recently the 50pks have been mainly Ritek & the 100pks gave been Ricohjpns but It probably goes buy whoever they get the best deal from at the time ! I think both are good brands though not in the same class with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim ! But Good none the less - Saugmon Has used lots of them (OFFICEDEPOT ) disc and seems to like them pretty good - He seems to be pretty well up on things media wise & I respect his opinion& judgements ! So I would say try a spindle ! either brand should do ! You might want to check with Saugmon as he has more hands on with the 16x disc ! so you may get a more concise and direct answer from him! Wish I could be more helpful ! Good Luck & happy Holidays ! Buy Buy LOL!

@BIGTOXY69:
Thanks for the info. I was in Office Depot the other day and the 75/25 bundle appeared to be 8X which I believe have a good chance of being RITEK. The OD 100 spindle was 16X and someone told me theirs turned out to be Ricohjpn and yes they did smell syrupy!
Just wondering if either do well with a BENQ 1650???

LABOY- Well being I have the Benq 1655 which is basically the same drive but with lightscribe - I have had no problems with ritek G0-5's ( Maxells or Officedepots 8X ) so you should be okay - And also since you probably have Qsuite ( Solidburn) & all the other benq goodies everything should bode well for you ! Though I never had a problem with either type Media ( DVD+R/DVD-R ) The Benq Drives seem to prefer DVD+R according to most members ! I tend to use DVD+R so I can booktype them with the Benq ! But Right now I'm burning through a Spindle of MIJ ( sony coded DVD-R ) Sony 8x and so far so good ! S0lidburn helps your benq Learn new media so it writes them better ! than a non benq might ! if you can still find Officedepot 8x They are usually ritek as you said -You also could find riteks sold under the Maxell bRAND IN THE 8X speed but lately you run the risk of getting CMC crap so Now in maxell I only Buy the MIJ ones ( Made by Hitachi /maxell) Maxells parent company & excellent disc) PLus the officedepots /riteks are usually cheaper than the Maxell branded ones as well - Good luck! & happy Burning !

BIGTOXY69---again thanks. I will will pick up a spindle of the 8x 75/25 spindle Monday and give them a try. I might pick up the 100 spindle 16X also. I mainly burn TY 8x YudenT02 and get on AVG 97% quality burns. But I recently got a dvd recorder and have been copying some old movies off of TCM and figure some RITEKS or Ricohjpn will do for those and save the TY for the backup of my purchased movies...Have a Merry Christmas, ya'll....

Best Buy: Fiji 25-pack +R DL $40
These likely will be either Ricoh D00 or Ritek D01 media, so be sure your burner likes it before purchasing. I get halfway decent burns with either but prefer the faster burning and somewhat better quality I obtain with the Verbatim +R DL media.
