ipod update problems... please help

I connected my ipod to my computer and when itunes opens it states that there is an update for my ipod. It asks if I would like to download and install it. I click ok and it comes up with this message after a few seconds... There was a problem downloading the ipod software for the ipod "my ipod." The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active and try again.


I do not have my computer networked. I am using the old time dial up!! (Stop laughing! lol) I went to apple's website, but I cannot find the update there either. Before when I was at their site, I had to sign in with my apple id and password. I can no longer find where I have to do that either.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated!
