Hi,

I am running MyDVD Studio Deluxe v6.2.0. It burns DVD+RW and CD-R/RW media fine, but not DVD+R media. Why? My DVD write drive is HP dvd200e. I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Val

Hi, you may just need a firmware update.
Here is the latest...

Also, just a note, your drive cannot write to DVD-R, only DVD+R. Just incase you got them mixed up...

:-)

Hi Ripper,

Thanks for your response. I have the latest firmware you mentioned and I use DVD+R (not DVD-R) media. I have been using this drive and the application for sometime. For some reasons recently it can not burn DVD+R media. I tried DVD+R media from different manufacturers (like HP and SONY) but no luck. Any other suggestions you have will be appreciated.

Regards,

Val

Try cleaning your laser with either a rubbing alcohol coveed q-tip, or a special disk cleaning CD.

Hi Ripper,

I cleaned the drive with Maxell Lens Cleaner CD a couple of times but did not help.

How do I clean with rubbing alcohol? Also, please tell me why it burns DVD+RW and CD-R/RW without any problem and not DVD+R?

Thanks and regards,

switch to verbatim DVDR disc they are the best unless you can find blanks made in japan , if you burn on bad disc they won't work, that could be one of you problems try the Verbatims if the Verbatims don't work then you have a program problem

Hi Rbrock,

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try verbatim DVD+R media you suggested. Could it be that the lens can no longer (because of its age of over 4 years of age) write at higher speed required for DVD+R media as opposed to slower speed requirement of DVD+RW and cd-r/rw media?

Your help is appreciated. Regards,

Hi RBROCK,

The program I use (MyDVD Studio Deluxe) does not let me set 4x speed. Either I go with the max default or set the speed at 1x.

If the lens is burn out, why does it still do a good job with DVD+RW? If it only hnadles CD-R/RW, I can see the point but it does handle DVD+RW and that is very perplexing.

If you can recommend a good DVD-burn application, I will be willing to look into it.

Thanks and regards,

Val

Also update your firmware on your burn drive switch to Verbatim DVDR- 16x blanks unless you can find disc made in Japan. I can't find them around here so I only use Verbatim

Hello RBROCK,

Thank you for your suggestions. Let me tell you about the progress I made. Before I used Maxell Lens Cleaner and it made no difference. I switched to Scotch Laser Lens Cleaner and it seems it is making some difference. I was able to burn one DVD+R after few tries. So, it looks like the lens is dirty. If you know a better way to clean it, I would love to try that. Also, I will certainly look into Nero application.

Val

Hello RBROCK and Ripper,

This is to let you know that with the Lens cleaning with Scotch Laser Lens Cleaner and the purchase of the latest version of Nero (V7 Ultra Edition), I am now able to burn DVD+R media on my HP DVD Writer 200e. Thank you so much for your help.

Hello RBROCK and Ripper,

I'm back. Even with Nero v7 and using Verbatim DVD+R media I still can not burn DVD+R using my HP dvd writer 200e. However I can burn DVD+RW media (of any make) fine for the same data.

Here is the message I get from Nero v7 while trying to burn:

- Generating DVD High Compatability Borders
- Invalid field in command F: HPDVD writer 200j
- Could not confirm end of disc at_once
- Burn failed at 2.4x(3324 KB/s)

It seems, it looks at DVD+R media during the start and does not like what it sees. Is there a way to reformat these media? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Val

Hi RBROCK,

I'm buring Data DVD and using DVD+R verbatim media for it. My HP dvd writer 200e can only handle DVD+R and DVD+RW media blanks for burning.

Does the error report I showed previously make any sense to you?

Thanks and regards,

Val

Your HP 200e is a "very old" DVD drive in computer terms. It will record DVD+RW at 2.4X and DVD+R at the same speed. You may be using older DVD+RW media that are working at 2.4X; but almost all DVD+R media being produced today are 16X--far too sensitive for your drive unless HP updates firmware (They won't. They want you to buy a newer drive.) The brands have nothing to do with the performance of this drive. It was not supported for DVD+R discs rated beyond 4X.

Heloo JoeRyan,

Thank you so much for your response.

If I set maximum speed not to exceed 4x in Nero v7, would that help?

If not, are DVD+R media rated 4x maximum available somewhere?

Looks like you can't teach a old dog new tricks at 40 bucks a pop I would get a new drive If your drive is that old your PC may not have enough power to keep up with todays demands

Hi RBROCK.

My PC is 2.4 ghz Pentium 4 with 1 GB of memory running Windows XP SP2. It is not the most modern highpower PC but I wouldn't put it in the real old category.

Agree, the Samsung DVD-ROM drive and the HP DVD Writer 200e I have on the system are old but they have been running well for making data and disc copy on CD-R/RW and DVD+RW media which I use often. The problem is narrowed down to DVD+R which has higher than 8X speed rating. So, if I can get by with using DVD+R upto 4X rating, I wouldn't mind keep using what I have for now. I agree I need to upgrade these drives, but I am hoping that I can survive with what I have for a year. What would you do if you wrer in my shoes?

Thanks,

Val

I have a old TDK 880N it's a 8x burnner and burn at 4x speed but burning movies lower than 4x is just as bad as burnning to fast so I don't know how many movies you will be able to burn and be able to watch on a stand alone player. For burning data and mp3 to DVDR you should be ok movies no.You will waste more money on coasters and a lot of time on a bunner that only burns a 2x Your PC sounds like it's got what it needs to be a good one why cheap out on a burnner
