Posted below is a list of "2 sheep burners".
These burners have the ability to write regular bit patterns correctly vs. " 1 sheep burners" that write regular bit patterns almost correctly These burners can backup the latest Safedisc 2.9.x cd protection. The list is a little out of date (sorry). Recommended burning programs to backup Safedisc 2.x:
Alcohol 120%
Blindwrite Suite: http://www.vso-software.fr/index.htm

@ Praetor,
The links you posted are out of date and the list at CloneCD& CD Mate are "compatable" cd burners, not 2 sheep burners (EFM encoding)

My CD burner is not on the list (Lite-on LTR-48246S) but yesterday i created a what i think is perfect copy of Jedi Academy using a BWA file off the internet and using it with Alcoholer/Alcohol 120%.
I am not sure it is perfect, but i can play it on my CD-ROM when all emulation is turned off.
does this mean my burner is 2 sheep.

1) You created a "modified" backup, not a perfect backup as one needs the aid of a bwa or mds file. Hey, as long as it works without the aid of any emulation is fine with me.
2) "2 sheep burners" are in referance to backing up Safedisc, not SecuROM. Your "reader" must have the ability to read sub-q channel data as most "roms" can these days(SecuROM).

Can anyone tell me how many sheeps my Toshiba SD-R5112 is? I have checked the list at makeabackup.com and the original post but mine was not listed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also have a samsung sw-216b and as far as i know it is a 0-sheep burner. Is this correct?

Hey Ya'll... I am really grateful for the information in this thread... It's the most current 2 sheep list I've been able to locate. Even google isn't finding any, most of the links are broken error 404 etc... is it that proper EFM encoding is now standard on all recently manufactured drives? Gratefully, with what you all have posted and the help of the only not very recent list I could find... http://com114.wonihome.net/CloneCD.htm
I got an Asus... I cant even find the "Olli's List" what is up wif dat? Where'd the info go?

All burners write efm encoding. Some burners write regular bit patterns almost correctly (1 sheeper) and other burners write regualr bit patterns correctly. ( 2 sheeper) Don't quote me on this one but I "think" dvd burners writes TSM or TFM encoding (ten to fourteen \sixteen modulation) compared to a cd burner, it writes eight to fourteen modulation. (EFM)

Hey folks ...
As my first post on the AfterDawn forums, I thought I'd ask a question that truly has me baffled. I've tried to educated myself with the info being tossed back and forth about 2/1/0-sheep burners, how its writes the data, etc.
I tried the test found here for my own burners: http://www.petemoore.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/guides/pc-cdrom/sheeptest.htm.
I burned the 2-sheep dat file as well as the 1-sheep dat file in accordance with the directions onto a 1x-4x Imation CD-RW disc. I used my Sony DRU-510A burner to accomplish this.
Now, if I try to copy the dat files from the DRU-510A drive back to my harddrive (as the method to determine if the drive correctly wrote the info), it will fail in its attempt. However, if I exchange the disc from the drive I burnt it in (DRU-510A), to my old-school CD-RW drive (which is a HP CD-Writer+ 9900j), the dat files copy back correctly, no errors ... ?!
Now, I tried to search for the explanation of what is going on, but I'm not having much luck. My question is whether or not the DRU-510A is a 2-sheep burner, minus the ability to correctly read what it burned (and the HP apparently can)???
Sorry if that's confusing. But I'm confused!
Thanks for your help!

Backup any Safedisc 2.8-3.15 pc protected game and if the backup plays in a dvd\cd-rom= "2 sheep burner".
If it fails= "1 sheep burner".
Recommend programs for backing up Safedisc 2.x\3.x:
1) Alcohol 120
2) Blindwrite 5 5.1

I have an LG GCE 8240B cd-rw. I have never had any problems copying games with it and yet it's not listed anywhere as a 2-sheep burner. I have found a few discussions on the internet where some say it is and others say it isn't. I was going to get a new lite-on cd-rw in case I came accross a game that I couldn't back up. But first of all, out of curiosity, I clicked on the sheep test and followed the instructions to the letter.
I used Nero to burn the appropriate files to a ReWritable CD in the LG drive and then read them all back to my hard drive using my Pioneer 107. They transferred across immediately, even the 3-sheep test file transferred straight away.
I've now changed my plans about buying a new lite-on, I'm not going to bother as there is no need.
I tried the same test again but this time I used my Pioneer 107 to burn the files, which it did but would not read them back, so I guess that one is completely sheepless.
One more thing I noticed is that the files burned using the LG 8240B couldn't be read by my DVD Rom(GDR 8161B) or the LG 8240B and yet the 107 had no problems at all.
Does this mean that any tricky games backed up by the LG should be played in the Pioneer or doesn't it matter what I play them in because it's the burning process that counts?

As an extra test I just copied my wife's favourite game, 'CSI Dark Motives'.
The copy protection according to A-Ray Scanner is 'safedisc 3.20.022'.
Just installed the game from the copied discs and everything went perfectly.
I guess the LG 8240B is definately a 2-sheep burner then. That's saved me a few shillings.
